I'm not even sure I should be posting this so soon after NRaas's resignation but I guess it might help the community focus on the future a bit. And hopefully start a bit of mutual back slapping.

Any nominations people have for who they'd like to see as the next ranger correspndant jot them down... perhaps it might inspire some people to run for it that might not have thought to run.

personally I'd be happy to see fred_skinner's name in lights

seems like he's got too much time on his hands with all the posting he does... he'd fit the bill nicely.

Honestly, I think JB has the most passion (too bad he wouldn't be able to leave the visitng morons alone:smileywink. I would also put up Fred and Agon. They all love the profession and I think the would do a gret job.

From the 3 posts I've read of JB....i highly doubt he is capable of being an objective, mature voice for the Ranger community. I certainly don't want him representing me in the slightest. His overstated abrasive attitude may appeal to the 12 yr old swg players, i highly doubt he could be an effective correspondant.

Since when is it considered 'cool' to smash somebody who simply asks a question in the Ranger board that don't boast a 'M nRANGER' tag?

My vote is w/ Agon. Very mature, intelligent poster. Nothing against Fred, i've just dealt w/ Agon a bit more.

JB or Skinner...while I might be missing someone else...these two are the only others whose posts have come close to NRAAS' ability to put together a coherent thought on the Ranger community as a whole.

It will be interesting...

Hi - if he has time, I think Fred would be an excellent candidate. I think really highly of JB - he has a way of saying what really needs to be said exactly when it needs to be said, but at the same time this might work against our interests, especially in situation where we might need to be more political. What ever happenedto Volstead? Did he come up with some good guides in the past.I have also been impressed by the quality of Calculus' posts.

Why don't we get people to actually put their names down that would like to run first. They all may want nothing to do with it. Also, SOE may not like any of them. They have the final say.

Lets not kick Nraas out quite yet. I am relatively new to the boards, but have been a long time Ranger. I have read quite a bit of what is on our boards, and I must say i would also say JB or Calculus would make good correspondents. They seem to respond quite a bit, and are quite knowledgable. I would say Calculus is the more polite of the two, but perhaps the passion and not quite so nice attitude of JB "might" add some focus to the profession that we all love. I am not naive to the fact that being mean is going to accomplish anything, but forceful can be a useful tool if applied properly. Either of these two would get my vote.

I would be very happy with the following people for the following reasons
(In no particular order)

1) Fred: his attention to detail in both posting and research has helped every one from novice scout to master ranger. His ability to reduce the somewhat mysterious aspects of our profession into a clear, concise posting is in my opinion second to none. When I see one of his posts, it is the first thing that I read.

2) JBMat: I have a lot of respect for JBMat, his blunt (some would call it unpolished) views are, nine times out of ten, right. He has a technical mastery of the profession and the ability to interject wit and humor. I admire his willingness to state his opinion clearly and his dedication to Rangering.

3) Calculus_Entropy: Calc is one of the people on this forum that can both cut through the dren and yet be diplomatic enough to not fray nerves while he does it. His (and of course my great friend Rancorrider4's) passion for Ranger as a profession was one of the reasons that I came back to the profession. I think that Calc sees the player behind the post and is able to articulate both the spirit and technicality of the profession.

4) Rancorrider4: Despite the abuse we give him for being an invertebrate He is usually the first to welcome the new rangers, both novice and master. I admire his dedication and his knowledge. On Lowca, he is my hunting partner when Im not soloing. He brings a constructive, productive and unique view to the profession, the game and the forums. I think that he would bring the same type of cameraderie that we have and be able to foster a productive relationship between the devs, the profession and the players.

I (of course) am flattered that I have been named

Anyone who follows NRaas would really have a tough time. After all, when we've the best...anything else would really be....strange.

Whoever becomes the next correspondant will have my full support. Anything that they would want, need I know that I would do my best to help out.
I will stop rambling on and on now.

(Im still kinda depressed)

In the spirit of looking to the future, I'd second your nomination of Fred. His posts are informative, he doesn't post just to insult but actually tries to be civil, he organizes well, he's been here long enough to see where the Ranger profession has been (and where it has stayed). It also doesn't hurt that I agree with him on most of the things he posts in this forum!

But I personally think you should have waited a little bit longer on this... it's not even been 24 hours yet. If the other correspondant positions are any indication, we'll be waiting a LONG time for a replacement.

Do we even know what the protocol is for the SOE choosing a new correspondant? Perhaps Delta can clue us in a bit? I also predict we will see a rash of well thought out and articulate posts in the next few weeks, as people try to endear themselves to the Community as the try to curry favor and get votes. That being said...FREE ICE CREAM FOR EVERYONE!!!

With another character, I was a Combat Medic, the corespondent left and to choose a new one, Thunderheart or someone put up a post asking for applications. Go to the CM forum I think it might still be there.

"Do we even know what the protocol is for the SOE choosing a new correspondant?"

TH will post once he notices that NRaas left (which requires the developers to be reading the board) asking for people who would like to be correspondent to send an email explaining why they think they'd do a good job. Look around on the Dev tracker, you should be able to find some similar posts from other professions.

As for my nominations, I'd say Fred or Agon. Volsted would have been good as well, if he were still around.
