Hello all. just started doing my fs quests and started hunting around the fs forums for info. Not quite sure how it works out but from what i can gather when u hit padawan your main character becomes padawan and the u get a fresh newbie alt. If so, is there a place in the galaxy for a ranger jedi? not sure how great hunting and gathering will be as jedi ranger although i know that the scouting fs branch is complete garbage. most rangers including myself are ranged combat profs so we can get our creature bonuses but ive never seen a jedi use a gun. should i break out of the box and become the first jedi ranger or is this a recipe for an incredibly weak jedi that will be ground under so many bh wheels. will the jedi ranger be as horrible at pvp as most rangers are? an important consideration since a large part of a jedi's time is devoted to the gcw. in short should i keep it how it is or completely tear down my ranger char and reconstruct with more complimentary profs such as med skill or melee and then just build my alt newb back up to master ranger. this whole jedi thing is quite confusing to me and try as i might i just cant see where we fit in. any thoughts?

I think a Ranger Jedi would be awesome in PvE at least - stealth ninja with a lightsaber.

Ok your trying and thats what matters. I have to hold back on my usual jedi posts because what your attempting is something i had thought about. So in your case what i would say is that since you need a lot of points for jedi. Go to hunting 4 and stop. Pick up the survival tree in FS. Why? Because the +5 creature knowledge will tell you CL level. And that will be very helpful to you. Same as a master scout. Thats 29 points of your 250. And you will be a harvesting machine

* mutters something about only one true living Jedi, one "blue Glowie" and one in accelerated training*
As stated you will eat 120 skill points to keep Master Ranger and it might be better for you to just keep a good harvest line and creature knowledge. The more damage you can do the faster you can harvest and that trumps units per critter by an order of magnitude.

Ok thanks good point. but what about the ranged prof? my prof happens to be carbineer (god, i just had to be different didnt i?) but again i really dont see much use in this entire prof line when my ultimate goal of jedi is nearing. i originally thought it would work as the hologrind did with your new alt being your jedi character. ive recently found out that this is not the case causing me to rethink my position. i do enjoythe unique character i have created however i do not want to create a jedi who is weak and cant hold his own and definitely dont want to waste any skill points with skills i will never ever use again. i am willing to redesign in any way that is fitting to augment my abilities as jedi. especially since i will be taking a very active role in gcw whenever possible which means bh fodder. still confused by the whole thing and how it works but from what i gather once i hit padawan everything is set in stone and i cant change anything so i need to work it out now. any thoughts on the matter would be helpful thx

I think Dante wrote a long poem about a place, not just for jedi rangers, but for jedi in general. Can't remember the name of the place (or the poem) at the moment, but I'm pretty sure it had nine levels to it. Hope this helps!

Remember play nice kids. He didnt come in and ask how to master the profession in one day. Or how to get to explore 4 because its required for BH. He asked for honest help in an adult manner. And remember if we can find ties between jedi and ranger. We get dev love in reply.
(i say these things because i didnt want to reply as an adult either)

well, why not go for it -- you could use your carbine skills until your saber skills get up there, and if you're hunting in some remote corner or endor where the spawns are good and the npcs relatively rare, there's only a slight chance that you're become bh fodder. Also, you'll be so far out that you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that if they do drive all they way out and gank you, at least you'll get back to civilization before they will.
I mean, I sort of like the idea of a solitary ranger, living almost completely in the most desolate forsaken place, eating nothing but grubs and practicing like hell with his lightsaber for the day that he can return to town and bring the smack train to all those decadent (sp?) city folk!
Of course, what else could happen is you could get ganked so often by the uber combat types that you set a new record for negative jedi xp... but, hey, at least you'll be unique.
At any rate, if you don't try it, I'm going too, but not for another 3 months lol.

What you say is true, but nobody reads Paradiso anymore. This is the Tarantino era!

Oh, I suppose I should apologize too, both for hijacking this guy's thread and being pretty rude in the process.

jonn23,
As it so happens, I recently commenced the Aurilia quests myself and have been thinking exactly the same thing. I am planning on eventually trying to mix Master Ranger with Jedi.
I must admit I have done no actually hard planning on this in terms of "Will I have enough skill points", "How will I exactly get there" or "Will it be any good", but I'm gonna give it a red hot go
Of course it will take me a while, as I am a casual player and any form of 'grinding' per se will still take me months to even get to Jedi Initiate, let alone any semblance of decent Jedi skills.
And to tell you the truth, I am as much looking forward to gettting the second character slot opened up as I am to getting the Force abilities! But I am looking forward to seeing if I can mix Master Ranger with Jedi and how it turns out. And I WILL NOT be dropping Master Ranger, unfortunately I will be dropping my Master Creature Handler to get the required points. Such is life I guess.

Ok, I thought to be a Jedi you had to use all 250 skill points to become a padawan or whatever. Up til then you get to use the FS stuff, and you get a toy light saber at Jedi Initiate, and can still have enough SP to keep tracking and harvesting up to and through Padawan along with medic and a combat profession to help you through the quests. After that you are SOL on keeping any profession other than Jedi.
In the immortal words of Monk - I may be wrong, but I don't think so....
