Thread: Let us Cook the meat!!!
I wrote this in the camp ideas topic...but basically I would love the option to use the harvested meat I get off the creatures I kill...and actually cook it on the fire to get special food items that can add to our HAM...like the foraged items currently do. This will give us another option to get food then simply foraging all the time.
I can not stand hearing over and over and over "Did you lose a Contact lens?" from people who see me Forage. Lets make the meat a bit more functional. It says in one of the skill boxes that we can prepare meals in the wild...Foraged onions, leaves, and Jars of Bugs are not what I was thinking it could have been. Lets make it Tuskcat Steaks, Grilled Durni, and so on...but let those items give us bonuses to Health, action and mind.
Not sure if this was thought about before..but this would make us very unique...and much more advanced then a scout when it comes to gatheringfood in the wild.
I would rather see a Novice Artiasan schematic that uses meat for some type of food.
So those of us that survey as well ( and have novice artiasan) can make a trivial dish, and would give us a market for those that want to grind Gen Crafting XP.

I don't think this is a solution. That is what chefs are for (and artisans).
There are plenty of other uses for meat. If you really want to cook the meat, take up novice chef.
We can forage for food, to give us the boosts we want (oh wait, so can scouts). I don't think giving us the exact same abilities of other professions is the solution to improving ranger.
I disagree. Yesterday I posted about two possible Rangers skills - Taxidermy and Camp Cooking.
Concerning the latter, my thinking was that Rangers (not Scouts) would learn the ability in the 2nd or 3rd tier of the Frontiering tree to improve foraged foods while in camp. They would use spices created by Chefs to enhance the buffs that foraged foods grant. The improved or "cooked" foraged foods would be inferior to Chef foodstuffs. This would be a nice little bonus skills to add some "spice" to the Ranger class and it would also create a small secondar market for Chefs without threatening their livelihood.
As for Taxidermy, it would rock. My thought was having high level mobs drop heads (rare drops on the order of 1/200) and Rangers having the ability to craft those heads into trophies that could be mounted on walls. This would create a nice niche income source for Rangers.
Ciao.
Well first, your idea of camp cooking, is different than "let us cook the meat".
Regardless, I don't really think that having us (rangers) be able to improve the foraged foods is the solution either. I'll assume ReeveConnor that you do know that the people currently making the "spices" are the smugglers, and spice is the star wars name for drugs. So then, you are saying, chefs will then make actual spices, to sell to rangers, so they can make food that buffs their stats.
Now take that last sentence I wrote. Why would a ranger, pay a chef, to buy "actual chef made spices", so that later on, he can forage something, then setup a camp, then make this new item, with chef spices and the foraged item that has inferior bonuses to what a chef can normally make. The alternative, go buy something a chef already makes, that buffs your stats better.
Right now, I think our (scout/ranger) foraged items, have issues currently with the chefs. The chefs are an profession probably more messed up than ours, and don't think we should suggest anything that could disrupt there flow.
Taxidermy on the other hand would be cool
"Spices" are code for drugs in SWG? I'm shocked, shocked I say. ![]()
Again, the concept is that Rangers, not Scouts, would have the ability, in camp only, to enhance foraged foods. The ability would require Chef "spices" (guess we'll have to come up with another term like Oregano or Parsley :smileywink
. The idea is not to move in on Chefs - 1. Rangers can only craft them in camp. 2. They are inferior to Chef foodstuffs. Plus, it creates a small secondary market for Chefs.
Ciao.
I don't see the point. Break it down into 2 options:
option a)
Buy "spice" from chef
Forage Item
Get Frontiering 2 or 3
Make Camp (guess we don't really need this)
Make Food Buff that is less effective than a chef item
option b)
Buy food buff from chef
I guess that is the way I see it. If given the 2 options, I think I would always choose optionB (even if I could do option a). Sure there are details of maybe how much chef spices would cost, but I still couldn't see chefs making these spices anyway. How much better would the foraged items be if you went through all this extra work? Right now, I don't think it could be that much, cause right now, chef food/drink is not that much better than some of the foraged items.
I would rather have the devs work on a multitude of other features (likegiving us our2 newbie melons back
)that could help, rather than see this in place. Maybe one day, a long, long, long time from now, when the chef profession is better and the ranger profession is better and things are more balanced, this could be a good idea. But now, I don't see the extra effort of cooking being of any use (w/out negatively affecting the chefs) and I don't see the chefs cooperating (making stuff, so that the rangers can make food, and therefore not buy their primary market things).
I agree. That meat stuff we always find as loot on NPCs. Its pretty simple and could be made easily if you are in camp.
To balance things however, it probably shouldNOT be stackable (as that is the perview of the Chef).
However, cooking up some grub and eating it before leaving camp sounds like a grand idea.
Yeah that's a decent idea.
You could take a coupel artisan skills though. I do want to see the graphic of cooking over the fire.
