Thread: Encouraging Rangers?

Yanno, I've been reading for about a week now, steady.. And I don't think I've ever seen anyone trying to convince people to go Ranger. In game, I have to bite my tongue to keep from discouraging people from going Ranger.

Is this because Ranger sucks? Nah, not in my mind, anyhow. It's because I like being one of the few. It's the same for Rifleman. As powerful as Master Rifleman is, you still seefairly few around, when you compare to other combat classes, like Pistoleer or TKA.

We love our profession, and most of us would never change.. Hell, I decided I wanted to go Master Ranger/Master Rifleman a week or more before I even bought the game. I've hemmed and hawed about it since then, because I dislike Trapping (though I've recently changed my mind, and WILL be going Master.. Now I've just got to actually work Trapping.. Adv. Trapping I, soon!) but I've never even considered dropping Ranger. It's what I've wanted to be from day -7.

But I like that we're rare. I'm really fearing seeing what will happen when/if we get the Outdoorsman stuff. People are going to flock to Ranger, if for no other reason than because they'll want to play with our new toys, and/or see ifit gives them an edge in PvP. So, like.. Let's keep it quiet, yeah? I don't want to have to tell everyone that I was a Ranger before it became the cool thing to be one. There will always be the few of us who do it because we love it, and that's enough for me.

I agree with you that there will always be those that truely love the profession for the reason that we want to be rangers to act like rangers, but there will always be dabbler, holo-chaser, and bandwagener types, but I actually don't mind them much, because I know who is a real ranger and who they are.

As for flocking to ranger when we get our "new" stuff, I am not so sure about that, because it will likely come out along with all the changes for all the other professions, and in the proccess of trying to find out what is new and best, I think most of that type will likely skip over ranger thinking of us as the way we have always been, hopefully.

I admit, I do me best to discourage people from being a Ranger . I like us being rare and I'm on no crusade to make us like the Creature Handlers anytime soon. Besides, I like being the only 'Ranger' on Talus (I think I am anyway, but then again, I think I'm the only player on Talus too :smileyindifferent

So u dislike trapping and want to do it fast? Easiest way is to get u a fencer or TKA friend. A pet will work, too.

Craft u about 120 glow wire traps á 5 uses, go to Dantooine and track u a Fierce Piket Protector. Let your friend/pet take the aggro (tey mustnt do ANY damage) And u throw trap after trap. (U will fail sometimes) Each trap nets for about 600 Trapping exp and u can use the glow wire trap over and ovr again.

This way you should be done very very fast.

2nd way is that u go to Dathomir and take part in a large hunting group. Just tell them u need trapping exp. And again dont do any damge but throw trap after trap

As for Dathomir and Trapping XP...I was using Glow Juice traps, cheap and easy to make...

For Advanced Trapping 1, chuck tons of traps at normal Rancors, like 787 XP each, near 100% sucess rate.

For Advanced Trapping 2, chick tons at Bull Rancors, like 1100 xp, nar 100% sucess rate at that point

For Advanced Trapping 3, same thing, but on Enraged Rancors... 1500xp each trap, rarely fails on them after AT2... Not sure if theres anything worth more to chuck at for Advanced Trapping 4, probably Enraged Bull Rancors, though ive only ever seen one. But 1500xp a pop, rarely fails, and Enraged Rancor missionsare worth 36k a mission anyways, nice Xp all around and nice credits.

The trapping XP and Scout XP just fly by on Rancor missions, and quite a bit of credits too.

"but there will always be dabbler, holo-chaser, and bandwagener types"

Hey... No bashing the dabblers... They are people too.

Now, as for the other two categories...

See, I don't have much problem with the dabblers.. I think it highly viable that BH's will take the tracking line, because it makes their ability to track down players much easier... And with the player-run player bounty systems we've got in place, this is kind of vital. Those who want certain things from the profession aren't so bad as those who really don't want or understand the profession.. ie, holowhores, and PvP munchkins. I hope you're right about the fact that when/if we get our stuff, it'll come in a mass with other profession upgrades, so we'll kind of be lost in the shuffle.

As for Trapping XP, I know how to get it. I just hate grinding, s'all. It was the last skill I mastered when I mastered scout, and will probably be the last I master as a Ranger.

While I like the fact that we are rare, at the same time I don't like the fact that for the cost, we aren't getting too much compared to the other elite professions. Heck even in my guild, when they draw up a list of who is needed for an attack on a base, do you think a ranger is on that list? Heck no. The only value other people see of our profession was our camps (which won't mean much soon), and our harvesting ability. We suck at PvP, and a good portion of our skill tree isn't effective.

Now before you all just tell me if i feel like that move on, let me just say that I wanted to be a Ranger before this game came out and I even picked a Bothan as he seemed to be best suited for it. I am still a Ranger and have no intention of giving it up. I am just frustrated with what we have to deal with. In any case, since I'm mostly playing solo Ranger is still for me. I just wish that playing solo was always an option and not a prerequisite.

Master Ranger completely and totally SUCKS.
Everyone take my advice and quit this stupid profession.

Same thing goes for Master Rifleman.
I highly recommend Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, or Commando.

Take my word for it, there is no fun, enjoyment or money to be had with either of these professions. Go.. save yourselves.

Nice try there Beausoleil...

But we see through your ploy, and you wouldn't be the one to turn off the light!

Alright Nraas,

I guess there's room for two of us to be completely miserable with our choices. You can stay.

Everyone else ... honestly... you would be much happier some place else.

I agree with Beau - do not become a Ranger

BH is the way baby... total dominance, uber and l33t in PvP and can kill anything that walks, talks, crawls, runs or slithers. Great forum too, full of information and well thought out posts. And so easy to get, you can be a Master in a matter of hours.

BH roxxors, Rangers suxxors

see, if I use leet terms the little morons will never see thru our semi-clever ploy, those shortbus riders them

Give me a chance NRaas I don't mind the dabblers at all, they add some difference to the game, besides I would probably have to hate myself everyonce in a while, carbineers don't last long with out our trusty novice medic skills
