Thread: Returning Ranger Dilemma

Hello Ranger Community,

I was once a Master Ranger, and am compelled to return. There are only two professions in this game that appeal to me: Ranger and TKM. Amongst you, you understand the compulsion to be a Ranger. As forTeras Kasi, its the history, their dedication to a truth, and aside from Ranger its the only profession that is not a profession; Teras Kasi is a calling and a duty; Ranger is lifestyle based upon a unique way of looking at and interacting with the SWG Universe. As Rangers you have the irony of a profession that many dont think has any utility, therefore only the dedicated remain -- the heard is culled. TKM everyone thinks is overpowered so its filled with people who abuse the title. They may play as they want, but tell someone youre a TKM and they think youve made this choice to go with Fencer and CM. Trust me, my desire to intially play as a lonewolf led me to Rifleman and TKM so that I could experience as much of the content as possible. Everyone thinks I am a lewt dood or however they say it.

I digress, but for a reason.

Is aRanger\TKMfundamentally a juxtoposition? Why would a character able to blend in to the environment in order to stalk their prey and strike them unaware, chose to walk up tap the bol and the shoulder and go toe to toe? Most of the talk in this forum involves the natural choice of Ranger\Rifleman. So much so I would be concerned that if the community gets its way a Ranger\TKM might be on the outside looking in after the combat balance.

I would love to blend the two story lines and use skills as a Ranger and the calling of a TKM and hunt Jedi -- the npc kind. As such I requested in the TK call for combat balance TK missions that involve their history and the need to track down those that abuse the Force. For me, one that is so balanced internally and externally as a Ranger\TKM should be formidable. I have only played CRPG, but it somewhat parelells the choice of a Ranger\Harper type of a role.

So my intention was to ask 'do you think this is viable' but instead I've decided enthusiastically 'he** yes' so I will ask another perhaps less subjective question: TKM is vulnerable to mass BAF attacks; Rifleman with their AOE attacks and initation from 60m is much less so. TKM is 100% kinetic; Rifleman have virtually every attack type to chose from. Do these inherent limitations on TKM mean that a Master Ranger\TKM is at an extreme disadvantage? Note the word extreme - I dont mind a challenge, but dont want to play with one hand behind my back.

I'm not really a fan of template questions, and that is not my intention. This is 'can I get everything out of Ranger as a TKM?' Am I better off not having Master Ranger so that some sp's can be used in other combat professions, giving me a better chance in the event of an attack in the forests ofDathomir?

I was a TKM/Master Ranger/CH. To answer your question i descibed it this way.

TKM - One with myself

MR - One with Nature

CH - One with the Creatures

So you can play it just like that. Its a PvE template to say the least. But with TK and Ranger or the three I did you are truly one with all aspects of Nature.

That help?

I am dropping Rifleman for TKM. I think TK goes well with Ranger simply to help correct the lack of options in Ranger. As a Ranger and a Rifleman I have no way to stop disease, poisons or bleeds unless I pick up alot of Medic but it still not enough to cure diseases and poisons. They received minibuffs and have abilites like Force of Will. My Ranger is woefully lacking against the harshnessof the wilds but a Tera Kasi is? Pathetic. Which is why we still patiently await a revamp.

I find myself out in the wilds alot. Tera Kasi will compliment Ranger more than RiflemanI believe.

New home of SWG Rangers!

I will say this. As a TKM/Master Ranger i was an organics machine. I could kill everything and harvest in a heartbeat. I was cleaning up on harvests better then any other template i have ever tried. I regret dropping it. But with using Master CH i dont need buffs anymore. I let the beasts take the attack and i just stand back and fire into it. Sending my droid into harvest if its really dangerous or walking up and doing it myself.

Dran,

If I wouldn't already have created a TKM with my Alt, I would have gone TKM on Xinea... I once was Ranger/Pistoleer but ranged wepons didn't fit my "biography" (I'm supposed to be an orphan adopted by Ewoks in Endor ).

Basically I knew my calling was some kind of Brawler Profession and had a choice to make... Fencer, nope.. didn't fit the profile, SwordsGirl, nope... didn't fit the Ewokians. TKM yes, but my Alt had already mastered it and I didn't want two toons with the same profession... So finally I came to realize that PikeGirl was my best choice...

The Ewokians thaught me how to fight with a wooden stick

Needless to say..... TKM/Ranger is not a combo one should feel ashamed of. I think it sounds great !!! (Go for it)

/wink

I was originally going to be Ranger/TKM when I started, but at Novice TKA I realised how much I missed swinging a big axe at anything I could make a shelter out of. TKA has some awesome stuff though. Go TKA Trandoshan, you get +70 to unarmed damage.

I am a aster Ranger/Master TK and a little medic thrown in. I find TKM and Ranger are the perfect combo for PVE. One compliments the other. As long as you dont spam specials you can go unbuffed as you can basically give yourself minor buffs that are immensly helpful. I doubt I will drop my current Template save for a major SP revamp.

I havent tried the current template out in PvP save for defense but the question on PvP has crossed my mind a time or two.

With the Force Sensitive bonuses coming into play after Patch 10, I can see a whole lot of RP possibilities as a Ranger/TKM. That is something to look forward to.

I can't wait to unlock FS Ranger. I'm gonna use the force to squeeze melon juice from the other side of my camp.

Here is an excerpt from a thread in the developement forum: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Developers&message.id=34821

Example: melee accuracy, melee speed, Healing skills, assembly, healing speed....none of these affect Jedi skills at all yet we are forced to learn them.

Yes, they are. Basically, this is 20/20 hindsight and a by-product of the conversion. As a character moves through the Jedi process on a normal progression, Force Sensitivity skills are basic enhancements for “regular” characters to simulate Force Sensitivity. At that point, they are great to have. Once a character becomes a Jedi, they have already moved past those skills and in effect developed their Force powers from sensitivities into full blown powers. In essence, you have all moved past this point but everyone will have to go through this phase in the future.
