I posted this at the end of the other thread, but I thought I'd make a new topic as well, since I was meaning too but got really busy. I'm also expanding a little here.
--------------------------------------------------
It was me who stood up at theplayer breakfest and asked in my less-than-exciting RL persona what was going on with rangers -- my plan was to lay out the usual complaints - skill point costs, abilities going to other profs,etc..., but green marine cut me off and said "I know exactly what you're going to say," which I took to be really good because it was evidence to me that the devs are concerned with our prof. and have been listening.
Oh, I also made a point of thanking the devs for the group harvest changes and the master ranger harvesting changes. My opinion is that these really did a lot for our profession, and I wanted to say thanks.
Basically green marine said that the smugglers are next in line for a revamp, followed by the bounty hunters, and then the rangers. He said rangers are a bit challenging because there are glaring examples in the SW canon or Rangers, but he sees the role of the ranger as ultimate survivalist, that is the character that can basically hold his own on the high-level dangerous adventure planets. Sounded pretty exciting to me.
So basically the message was to be patient -- the devs do want to fix ranger, but they have a lot on their plates and it's going to take them a while to get to it. Again, I was encouraged because they were aware of the state of our profession post-cu and green marine at least committed to fixing us, though he didn't give a specific timeline (which I can understand - expectation management).
Other highlights: I said I'm one of the few remaining master rangers and everyone cheered, which was nice. And Ialso asked the devs whenlooping-macros were going to go away and they said that every dev on the dev team hated them and that means that when they have time, they are going to finally do away with looping macros (there were more cheers about this).
Mostly people were very civil, even those who stood up to complain about the CU. There was this one woman dressed as a jedi who kept standing up and asking questions, and while her questions were mostly good, I was seriously contemplating making a BH char on her server and hunting her down when she stood up for the fifth time. A lot of the questions were about jedi actually, which is what encouraged me to stand up and ask about rangers -- I didn't want us to get lost in all the jedi noise (but a lot of the questions about jedi were very relevant, and it was interesting to see how the devs responded).
All-in-all the devs came across as very committed to making the game better and more star-warsy - at least, that's what I took out of it.
OK - my apologies for not posting this sooner -- I've been really busy with RL stuff and I basically passed out after the fan breakfast....

Ya know, that was my reaction too.
Actually, I was like, hmmmm... maybe that's supposed to be Smuggler, then SL, then Ranger. BH?! What does BH need a revamp for?

Yeah probly SL then Ranger. The only thing i think for BH is that their primary role (damage mitigation) doesnt feature in the combat upgrade so that could need work on. If they dowork onBH then i expect it only very light work.
SL's basically dont exist anymore so they most certainly need their revamp ASAP, imo more than smuggler for sure.

What I would like to say at a fan breakfast to the Developers.
All the talk is always about harvest, well most of it anyway. If we read Star Wars, we find there existed the Antarian Rangers, at the left hand of the Jedi, and hunted like the Jedi by Vader and the Imperials. Also existing were the Imperial Sector Rangers, lawmen of a sort and "custom agents". Sure we could survive where others couldn't, in the wilderness and harvesting. Make no mistake harvesting is fun and I do like it. but with the "improvments" in 18 months since I've been a master Ranger, I'm getting tired. Traps that don't work, increased spawns so who needs a guide anymore, a heavy dose of skill points to be an uber scout only to watch a scout outharvest you because they can spend more skill points on a combat profession, enough said, I won't dwell on that stuff.
Make the Ranger part of the combat, and I don't mean just for pve and harvesting. After all who is meantioned in Star Wars books, commando's, squad leaders, brawlers, BE's, etc.? no...the Ranger is. Where are they in the game then? out shooting nuna's that beat the crap out of them under the new CU...a profession nobody seems to want anymore, not even the developers from the sounds of things lately.
Make Jedi needthe services of an Antarian Ranger..and I mean really need our services. They can't progress past a point without a master ranger helping them. Missions that they have to do with a ranger.
Make Smugglers have to go through a checkpoint where an Imperial Sector Ranger may or may not find them. Have missions where an Imperial Sector Ranger chases the games smugglers. i.e. Smuggler picks up a package/mission from a terminal, this activates a Ranger terminal..to hunt said individual or force him to pay taxes. Sort of bounty hunter but limited to that one profession..smugglers...smuggies would love it.
Combine a weapon with the Ranger tree, rifles and rangers were made for each other, make rifles depend on Rangers. No Ranger...no rifle.
I was going to post thisunder ranger revamp..but that thread is like 7-8 pages long. "hint" "hint"
Thanks for reading.

Its nice to hear, but the SL population has always been low. It doesn't attract people as much as being a Smuggler or a Bounty Hunter would. The concept of being a Ranger has more draw than Squad Leader. It stinks, but I can see why SL may have fallen off the radar.

Yeah i know what you mean in terms of vis and attention but i was realy refering to the situation with SL after the CU, i mean they are in one hell of a bad place at this time. There are a couple of us like that but i think definatly SL is up there with the worst.

o_O,Imperial tax collectors?!what arewe supposed to do show up at some smuggler's doorstep and say 'hey - you need to fill out form 10-40a schedule c or I'm going to blast you.' Oh, I know, we could ask for a new special, /rangedauditshot, that would randomly deduct 2-10 credits from our target's inventory unless they were married, had two kids, and a parakeet, and then it would be 1-5 credits unless they were a big time crafter and contributed a lot to the political party of the current mayor of Bestine in which case we would have 2-10 credits deducted from our inventories unless we too had at least two branches in merchant which would mean that we could counter with form 8213 er schedule 2.6 of the imperial tax code but only if we had not declared our imperial frequent flyer miles towards that galactic fiscal year because if we had then form 8213 would need to be supplemented by form 7689, which would, of course, only be foragable on the adventure planets, but would be too big to fit into our inventories.
Now why didn't I think to ask the devs about this?

hehe good one. thats all we need is an in game IRS.
but alot of the post has some merit.
make it so the jedi NEED us.
make it so the jedi need to hunt down and stop a "smuggling ring" (add smuggler content) and to do that they need a ranger (add ranger content) all the while the bh's (add bh content) can now take a bounty on the jedi that are trying to stop the "smuggling ring"
make it so if the smuggler gets away with it, he gets a portion of the bounty and something great fora successfull smuggle.
summary: smuggler and bh is teamed up
ranger and jedi are teamed up.
what do you think?

To be honest if I had 60 more points I would take up SL, (with probly rifles or carbines with the new CU) as well as ranger. As some times I've been involved in massive group actoins where a SL would of came in handy.

Hey people at least we have it in writing and stuff that we are getting a revamp. We all have a load of proven patience (camping anyone?) I am sure waiting a little longer isn't going to hurt too much.
