OK, some of the ingame music is nice, and the "hey it's nighttime / morning / raining" fanfares add atmosphere. But sometimes I like to bung some other music on instead.
Today I've been mostly listening to:

Maybe it seems to obvious but i generally go for any of the Star Wars soundtracks. If I'm on Tatooine, its either A New Hope disk1 or ROTJ disk1, Endor ROTJ disk2, Naboo, Phantom Menace, etc etc....I have found myself playing this game, listeneing to the soundtrack, and sticking on one of the videos......i think i need to go outside

Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers, a few british bands (Stereophonics, Muse, The Servant) and a little Rage Against the Machine. oh and Foo Fighters.

Oh btw phenix, hope your listening to old phonics albums, they havnt produced a decent album since their god-like albums of 'performance and cocktails' and 'word gets around'. I live in the uk and they played at my univercity a few months back, they sucked big time, i was very disapointed apart from when they played a thousand tree for old times sake
Going to see Velvet Revolver in 2 weeks, i cant wait, Slash is one of three of my favourite rockstars of all time (joint withJimmy Page, And Hendrix).

some decent tracks on "Just Enough Education to Perform". Namely "Mr. Writer" and "Rooftop". a few other decents, but yeah, performance and cocktails was great.
i downloaded some live tracks, so i'm surprised to hear you say they sucked live....i was quite impressed with some of their live acoustic stuff that I downloade.

Nah mate i wasnt saying they suck live
I was specifically lashing out at the songs they sang (Jeep trackand mainly You goto go there to come back tracks). They were (as usual) great at performing them, but the problem was they were performing crap songs.
I went to see them also2 years back and another time 3 years ago (Leeds festival and the sellar) and they played great tracks from Performance and Word Get Around. Apart from the Manic Street Preachers Millenium Gig that i was privelaged to attend, they were probly my favourite 'live' band becuase they were rocking at their best and playing 'tunes of the gods' from 2 glorious albums.
Since then times have changed but they are still amongst my most highly rated live bands (partly why i went again). Its just they are pumping out one after another 'under par' tracks.
Admittedly Mr Writer blew me away, i was very impressed by it, but the other 'fluff' on the albums (J.E.E.P and You goto go there to come back) are just 'not classic phonics' what you have come to expect. Perhaps if another band would have release jeep and you gotto they would have been good albums, but the fact Stereophonics released them (my at the time favourite band) was extremely disapointing and quit frankly gutting. The band changed and moved away from their classic rock roots that everyone came to love and shifted into the money making pop/rock business.
All in all i think Stereophonics are one of the best live 'recent' bands there is (along with Muse) however the classic tunes they used to seem so happy playing and i listening to have evapourated as has the 'this is stereophonics, **edit** off if you dont like it' attitude all their songs carried.
On another note, have you DL'd any Muse live tunes?

Recently I discovered a band made up of reeeeeally angry Rastafarians. I almost drove off the road laughing when I heard them for the first time on the radio. If you can get it anywhere take a listen to Skin Dread lol. Otherwise my favorites are:

ROB ZOMBIE (ok, bump him to the top)

Angry chick music (Poe, Garbage, Ani DiFranco, Lacuna Coil (sp?), Sinead O'Conner)
Sappy chick music (Sarah McLaughlin, Dido, Catie Curtis, Buffy Saint Marie, Suzanne Vega... lots and lots lol)
"Other" (Enya, Loreena McKennit, George Winston, Satie, Carlos Nakai, LAGQ. Moby)
And the local rock/metal station WAAF, alt rock station WBRU, and Emerson college radio (local folk)
Hmmmm... its hard to name them all. Thats a sample of what is curently piled next to the CD changer. At this moment WAAF is playing 80s hair bands lol. Ahhh... this used to be considered heavy...

For me it all depends on the time of day I play. If it's a wekend morning my head is filled with themesongs form noggin. You know, stuff like Dora the explorer (she's a ranger and she knows it) , bob the builder. you know, stuff like that. Oh and by the way, it's my son that's actually watching those not me.
For all the other times of the day I'll throw on some dalek, anything with Justin Broaderick ie godflesh, techno animal, final...., Isis, Automato, rjd2, El-P, Alec Empire, John Zorn, Quicksand, Dead Voices On Air, Skinny Puppy.....
But when I'm in a serious groove I'll break out every Clutch album and throw em on random, knock back a guinness or 8 and harvest till the sun rises.

havent' gotten a chance to download any Muse live tracks, but man I want to (I lost Kazaa lite when I switch computers).
All that I can find stateside is "Absolution" and no other album. I want to go back and hear their roots (much like Stereophonics- I heard Mr. Writer first and went backwards from there).
As for the Servant, I have only heard a few tracks, including "orchestra" but all that I heard were good examples of why British rock is again beating the crap outta American rock. True, I love Incubus, the Chili Peppers, Rage, Foo fighters, Rob Zombie and many others...but they aren't rock in the traditional sense. Right now the closest thing America has to pure rock is the Darkness. Even there, I think they're a few steps away from Pearl Jam, Def Leapord and even the Doors. British rock will again invade America, if only for it's pureness. Muse rocks...end of story. Stereophonics can rock (even on You Gotta Go There to Come Back, there are songs that ALMOST forgive the soft pop rock songs. The Servant has a lot of potential, I'm anxious to see where they go.

I never listen to the game musics after the first few hours of buying a game...too repetitive.
I have about 1/2 of my CD collection of over 1300 CDs on HD, that plus a few internet radio stations save me from ever having to listen to the same thing twice in the same year (unless I want to)
Genre-wise, my CDs are mostly classical + world music + everything else that is nice. That leaves out most (but not all) of the pop, metal, punk, jazz, country, bavarian brass bands, etc, and variations and combinations thereof.
3 internet radio stations that I listen most often are L.I.B.R.A (world music), creamy (eclectic), and folk alley.

Right now the closest thing America has to pure rock is the Darkness.
I know the darkness went over to america after they played their first gigs over here but are they doing ok over there?
The darkness are great, ive seen them 3 times now. the reading festival, leeds festival and leed univercity gig (pre signed).
They only had 5 tunes of their own back at the leeds uni gig because they were not signed, but they did some great radiohead covers and even some classic 'darknessed' bon jovi tracks.
Its so cool following a band like that because they are so different and sharp from what has come before them. They bring something refreshing back to your playlist and its great to see spandex coming back into fashion 
Yeah mate you goto find some old muse stuff. Granted Absolutionis without a doubt one of the most inspiring and talented albums in recent years they have always been like that and perhaps some would say even better in the past. Hopefully they will be touring again soon so i can see them. I remember when they first started out, they were massive in France before there started to be very poppular over here with the masses, they were only known by the rock faithfull realy. They did a Euro Tour and played to 140,000 french fans and came back to england to play gigs to 5,000 and stuff like that
The rock scene is starting to come back in again and bands like Velvet Revolver are hitting those classic viens of entertainment and making hearts race with their old school rock. I just hope rock stays rock, the Darkness move away from their publicity hungry thinking they have adopted in recent months and get back to rock mode and british rock starts becoming distributed world wide again.

Those are some top draw english bands with lots to offer.
If you fancy trying out some powerfull rock songs try a band named 'Sunna' with a single album called 'One Minute Science'. They came and went without managing to capture a wide audience but non the less made some great tunes especially the rock heaven track of 'Power Struggle' (one for every collection).
Give them a try and im sure you will be impressed especially Feeder - Echo Park and Comfort In Sound.
If you like those and want some more hints just ask and ill be glad to give you ideas of what other tracks or albums to buy that maybe arnt as big in america.
