i really think that there ought to be a darkness cover band named the sweetness

Well considering that the darkness only last year moved away from being a cover band themselves i wouldnt expect darkness cover bands yet

Justin used to do the jingles on the radio for Ikea adverts hehe. If anyone in europe has ever hear the music in the background you will know that the singer in the darkness wrote and performed those heeh.

but owen, that would make it even more appropriate... a cover band doing covers of the covers they used to do. now *that* would be sweet! hence the name.

okay, I've been cued into a couple "up 'n comers"...basically bands that are good but that aren't mainstream yet (at least not for America's radio stations)

RJD2- I've heard a bunch of their stuff, it's all good. BTW this maybe mainstream for Techo-philes, but as i am more of a rock person, this is the first I've heard of em. Guy does a great job with beats and gets some decent rapper/singers and it's all good.

Velvet Revolver- I think someone else already mentioned it, but i wanted to re-iterate this

Postal Service- definately some good stuff, but not for everyone

Thievery Corporation- very good "lounge" techno

and a band that hasn't put out an album in a while that I've been poppin in the CD player a lot recently:

The Pixies. Absoulutly and without a doubt the begining of the Boston punk scene and pretty much the parents of east-coast (American) punk. Wonderful stuff. If you've seen fight club, you've heard one of their songs- it's the song as the buildings are collapsing at the end. I recomend getting "Death to the Pixies" if you want to pick up just the best-of, but all of their CD's are good to great.

Okay so I want to know the band that aren't "pop" or superpopular stateside so that I can run a search and I'll start a list (in yellow) of all the stuff that isn't huge in America, but is good. Again, this can include foreign bands that are big, but I don't get a chance to hear English music too much (though the bands I have found are some of my favorites:

RJD2

Velvet Revoler

Bipolar

Pixies (used to be big on East coast, but never "mainstream"

Muse

Stereophonics

Thievery Corporation

The Servant

The Rasmus (not sure how much radioplay they get)

Feel free to put in yellowany good bands that may not be mainstream...I need some good music to listen to, as i'm a bit of an audiophile. I love music. I've already decided that my new computer needs to have a second hard drive so I can run a RAID configuration and have enough room for ALL my music.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Not particular New Bands, just those not total mainsteam pop whoi would recommend in anyone's CD collection:

Feeder

A (yes the band name's A)

Idlewild

The Music (yes the band name's The Music hehe)

Muse Live (you just goto)

Radiohead

The Darkness

Lost Prophets

Harry

Sunna

Brand New

Keane

Oasis (goto have em because they rock)

Ocean Colour Scene (old rock yes, but classic none the less)

Stone Temple Pilots

Slash's Snakepit

Snow Patrol

The Datsuns

White Stripes

Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Zwan

Blur (same reason as oasis)

The Verve (OMG if you have never heard these you need shooting, better yet get your ass in gear listen to em, one of the best bands in the last 10 years)

Supergrass

Eels (great stuff)

Placebo (because they are placebo)

Manic Street Preachers (i dont know many english rock lovers without some manics in their collection)

Random Song - Surfing With The Alien

Ok those are my semi-mainstream quality listening alternative recommendations. Let me get some sleep then ill post some more underground british bands or newly emerging bands to check out. Then after that my classic rock god lists

man...blue man group fred? they have CD's??

but i'm there with ya on the no Rap/County-Western music. I have a few Rap songs downloaded on my laptop...those are for when people want to throw a little bash in your dorm room and you have to hook up the surround sound speakers up and crank the bass and just pound a few before ya hit the real parties. Rap is, and always will be (in my book- not gonna force anyone to listen to the pixies) reserved for nightclub/dance/party situations. I have never and will never drive any long distance listening to rap. as for county-western...i have little to say other than i've heard very little and liked even less.

Been ripping though 'The Music' self titled album this session. What a great band, and rob the lead singer lives 5 doors down from me hehe.

If you hanvt heard these guys you have to, they are one of the future bands and i cant say how fecking good they are.

Before you shell out for the album just grab 'The Getaway' track (legally of course) and you'll know what im talking about.
