Thread: Hiring A Ranger: A Beginners Guide
As the #1 Post on the header board says This is not a Trade Forum! Please do not solicit the services of a Ranger here!!! Thread #1 in all it's glory.
However. While they are here, here are a few 'tips' for handling rangers that I've picked up from watching the responses to WTH posts.
So, you are going to post?
You need a ranger to find a creature, some resource or an NPC spawn. So it seems to make sense that you post on the Ranger forum and ask for some help.
Don't waste your post by being vague. (OK< in some circumstances you might want to be a little mysterious about the actual target, but a public forum is probably not the place to be asking for help to find that dagnabit jedi / bountyhunter / guild leader. You'll be best finding the right sort of hunter for that by word of mouth).
First and most important, where are you? What server? Which planet? The reason for the server should be obvious. The planet? Well, some of us prefer to hunt on particular planets or want to avoid others.
Again, Where are you? What server? Which planet? If you forget to tell us that much at least, we're really going to have problems...
What do you want found? Meat? Hide? A Pirate? Eight Graul Marauders? Do you want a big tent put up for a wedding?

Honest, you'd be surprised at the amount of folk who say they want a Ranger but forget to say what for.
*** "I would also add what type of organic resource. Nothing is more fun that making your way to one of the out-of-the-way planets just to find out that the resource shifted" -Shugyosha
*** "Thats very true give us the name of the resource. Because if you say "Yavin Wooly" and we see "OQ 868 SR 760" and assume this was the one you want. You wont be happy because the day before it was "OQ999 SR897". Help us so we can help you" -CanonFodder
Filthy Lucre, Foldin' Stuff, CREDITS!
How much are you offering. Make it a ballpark figure, an invitation to haggle. Or, if its a fixed price, make that clear.
Is there a time limit for people getting back to you? Do you need a reply today? Or would sometime this week be alright?
CONTACT!!
How do you want contacted? Here? In game?
Post a copy of your advert on the galaxy trade forum too. People tend to discuss SWG and the profession in these forums and rangers looking for a contract will be checking the trade forum.

Remember, if nobody gets back to you it's not because we don't like you, honest.
Once you've found the ranger of your dreams, treat them with respect, handle them with care, remember to feed and water them regularly and you'll have a friend for life. Or at least until something bright and shiny distracts them and they wander off into the wilderness again.

I simply had to add this by DesktopSaki -
"Finally, if we're harvesting organics for you, trust what we tell you about them. Do your homework, or let us educate you. Listen to us when we tell you that we can't guarantee large amounts of Lokian wooly hide. (If you want a guarantee of large amounts, contract for Dath leathery.) Trust us when we tell you we can only get 1-2k of Dantooine Herbivore meat a night because we can only hunt leser bols right now--I'm not lazy, I'm just a Carbineer! (I think many people don't realize that Rangers are not a combat class.)"

I second that! Good job Ken.
I had some time on my hands after getting chewed by some mottled wryx. Them beggars do disease, y'know! Five of them, using my leg as a chew stick. And where's my client? Oh he's still toasting sharnaff with his flamethrower. Track for you? Track THIS! And can you get healed in Coronet these days? Heck no, you gotta be in there tumbling, oh yeah... and another thing, why the heck don't our camps heal properly, I should be able to root up small plants, some berries and maybe an animal of sorts, make me some chickenlike soup, a happy herbal, and sort out this BF. And NO , I don't want to help you find a ****** pirate and the moisture farmer should call relate, after all, there's got to be a reason his wife and kid are shacked up in a cave with 200 psychotic thugs... OH! and another thing, stop spamming me with invites to group. Even if I know you and like you I might not WANT to get grouped senseless walking out of the starport...
Yeah, am off the caffeine, does it show?

Only once have I tracked for a group and that was a long time ago for a group of 3 jedi...something at that time which was as rare as we are today. I didn't ask for a fee, just a tip, as I was more curious to see how long these strange people ,charging headlessly towards the first Krayt I had found for them, would survive. The reason I didn't ask for a fee was simply as I had no idea as to how much I should charge. So my question is, what sort of fee do you feel is acceptable, knowing that the tasks of course may well be very different?
Crikey, thats a toughy.
Setting a fee depends on so much.
How much is your time worth? You could be off harvesting that oh so sweet tat avian for silly coin or doing something FUN with your guildies or friends. How much do you want the job? Do you need it right now? Could it lead to repeat business?
I tend to cost the jobs up by figuring how long it'll take, how much I could earn in the time it'll take to do the job, add in the cost of buffs and travel if appropriate and then add a % on top for my 'pension' fund.
Then again, if I know / like you I might just do it as a favour.
