Thread: 10 Month Absence -- How to hunt without pets?

Howdy folks. I'm back from an absence of about 10 months. Back then I could hunt using my Graul as a low-level Creature Handler and do pretty well by myself on Endor. Now I find that none of the pets available to low-level CH's are worth my keeping the profession. Now I'm having trouble staying alive on Talus fighting just about anything. So I'm asking, now that I'm without that huge tank for defense, what professions do you all combine with Ranger that let you hunt solo (and survive)?

Get buffs 
Seriously, they really help. Also, I don't know what condition your armor is in but get some Ubese for kinetic protection.
Oh, one more thing - you asked what professions others combine with Ranger. Well personally, I am a Pistoleer, but most of the other Rangers I see either have TKA or Rifleman. It comes down to personal preference and what best suits your play style.

Oh, one more question. What planet(s) do you go to the most for hunting solo?

most hunt where ever the organics good. doc's 'll pay good hard cash for high oq/pe avian and herb meat, and armorsmiths will pay just as well for high oq wooly hide. just ask around...

There really isn't a limit with the high end buffs anymore. Go to any planet and you should be alright. If you have Master Pistoleer you should do alright no matter where you end up. Personally I think Swordsman with Ranger is tip-top, but I know Pistoleer is excellent too. Definately go with the high end Ubese though.

currently, buffs and armor will put you pretty much in god-mode.
the LONG TERM answer is... find friends.
CH was an effective solo profession because it gave you mighty friends that (when everything worked right) obeyed your various commands instantly.
now? a good crew of PLAYERS can do much more than a solo player with pets.
with the changes coming down the pike, this may become more important.

Define low level CH? Im guessing 4/4/0/0 if you wer using a CH. Find a BE and have a couple creatures made up to your CL levels. One for kinectic fighting, one for energy. You would be suprised at what they can make. Dont expect light armor below level 35-39. But do expect new things like disease, poison in pet levels that natural cant match. I love BE pets. My light 60 kinectics have been very good to me. Get a gurreck to since they are fast

AHHHHH ye olde days! When everyone had a Rock Beetle in their pocked, and the smallest mention of a red aggro Ewok would cause scores of battle hardened warriors to cower in their boots........
*sigh* vehicles killed the game........

If you still want a tank you could always try a droid instead. Alternatively, do a search on this forum for the words 'tactics' and 'JBMat'

I think I was 3/2/0/0 for just the Graul. And I had no idea that the droids were any good. The buffs and Ubese armor approach sounds most effective. I'm very surprised at how much this game has changed. Thank you all for answers!

I've been playing a rifleman for some time now. It combines good with a ranger as you will need a lot of patience and gives a real sniper feel. You can solo almost anything unbuffed/unarmored though it can take a very long time. When you hit master everything changes

Droids are now 4300 ham and 40% resists. Not bad for 0 skill point investment (see JB i said it feel better?)
