I have to share:
I've died a lot in a great many games and the manner of this afternoon's trip to the cloning booth gave me a multi-level chuckle.
I decide to do a little faction killing as a break from grinding the last couple of boxes of rifleman. So I go overt (seems more sporting), grab a couple of missions and head out. I'm midway into hot T21 death for some Stormtroopers when I get a message from a guy who wants trained. Hmmm, forgot to go anon while overt, that was stupid. I like to help a ranger when I can but given my status and what I'm doing, I do a quick "who" just to see where he is and he's anon; and that was the second stupid thing I missed. I decline and I tell him why. He responds that this is no problem if I'm a rebel since he is too and he can come out to meet me. Not picking up on his eagernes to do the legwork was the third stupid thing I missed.
About thirty seconds into the wait, I get a bad feeling about this that said maybe I should just move off the point I gave him and whip out my speeder. Not doing it was the last stupid mistake. ZOOOOOOOM three red dots wearing composite armor, buffed to the gills rip up to me on swoops, dismount before I even get up off the ground and flatten me.
I was delighted with my own stupidity and boggled at my killers. The best I can guess is that since they see more jedi than rangers that they figure that they need to come equally prepared.
To kill one ranger
Largely unbuffed
Unarmored
On his belly

So a ranger asked you for training so that his gank squad could show up and take you out....? You should probably post his name here for future reference.

No, it was almost certainly not a fellow Ranger. They did a /who Rebel, saw he was a Ranger, and asked for training. It's an easy way to get free tracking
. I'd be very surprised if they were actually a Ranger looking for training who decided to have some fun.

He wasn't an actual ranger. He asked for a skill midway up the profession and I swallowed the bait.
If I had just listened to the little voice in my head and moved a couple hundred meters off the target and used /areatrack when I got the "Where are you?" message, I would have noticed three people and seen that one of them was Hettar (a well known, respected and skilled Imp PvPer) and had a good laugh. BTW, if one must be ganked...
There was no trash talking, no gloating and no attempt at a triple incap. The whole encouter was "zoomincapdeathblow." It was as "nice" as I expect any enemy to be.
Bottom line, I had the better tools and they caught me with my brains down.

ahhh that makes sense... didn't know you could do a /who rebel haha. Must have been a slow pvp night to go to all that trouble just to gank a single guy.

I'm an Imp ranger and I wouldnt attack a fellow ranger as long as they didn't attack me. I like to be respectful of the people that have gone through the same stuff as me. That's why I like when new comers to the profession ask me questions cause they are where I was before and I always like to help them out and give them some good camp gear if they want it.

I recommend always using a combonation of /who rebel (or imperial) and /areatrack if you're overt or about to gain a TEF.Its just gotta be 2nd nature or your asking for it. That said, it sounds like this guy totally set you up and if he really was trying to learn Ranger thats even worse.
I hope you got his name and puthimon your*edit* list.

Odajja: on some servers the pre-pubness cliques are on opposite sides. On Eclipse there are few to none "l337" going on the reb side any more and Imp ganking is common. In fact, it's hard not to, Imps outnumber rebs now close to3 to one. It was an amazing transformation, I used to be ashamed to have all the kids on my side and about7 months back they all slowlystarted to goImp. I would see very famous names switch sides and about 5 famous guilds totally convert due to a combination of peer pressure and the fact that you could go anywhere unmolested. It was a very strange process to behold. All the hardcore PvP d00ds are Imp now, and anyone that wants to sart a reb guild ether gets smacked down hard or just convert and joins the club.
Almost like the movies in a way....

I got his name but more as a respected foe than my snit list. He caught me with my pants down and he and his buds plowed me. He didn't engage in any griefing or jerky behavior. He gave me no reason to hold a grudge.
Heck, better to be killed honorably than shaved or hawtpantsed.

Yea, but he asked for your help first and then knifed you. You trusted him, in order to help him and he exploited that trust.I say F' em and all his buddies, its people like him that wreck this game for me.

I know I certainly would not entertain the thought of training or aiding that fellow at any point in the future. In fact, should the name come up in an /area players some time, I might broadcast his current whereabouts to potentially interested parties. One good turn deserves another.
