Then we will just have to disagree on this one.
My thoughts are: The game doesn't force you to take a side and if you do, nothing forces you to go overt. When you go overt you do so knowing that players of the other faction are going to try to kill you. The name of the game is war and you do what you have to do to kill the enemy and that should be understood. The reason I made this post is my amusement at bringing that many people, that well prepared to do the deed. Usually subterfuge is used as a force multiplier, to enable a much smaller or less powerful force to win over a larger one.
I've PvPed in a mess of games over the years and frankly given the (usual) emphasis on balance, your choices usually boil down to stalemate, "zerg" tactics or taking advantage of your foes. Of the three, I much prefer the last choice since it makes the game interesting.

Hmm... doesn't force you. I 'had' to go either Rebel or Imp to do the themeparks as part of the FS Badger Craze. Admittedly I didn't 'have' to stay factioned and that was my choice for the time being. Similarly, you might be covert but can be forced Overt if you're scanned by Imperial troopers (btw, does anyone know if this happens the 'other' way?). F'rinstance, last night I was out killing dewies and mountain beasties around the left hand middlish part of Tatooine. Due to a lapse of concentration I found myself on the way to Espa to clone (wasn't cloned on Tat, it was the nearest) As I loaded into the clone bay I was scanned and tef'd by a ST outside the clonebay, attacked and killed. Cloned, attacked and killed again...
yeah yeah, I know, that was a glitch caused by a misplaced NPC, and once I finally got out of the bay (with about 50% rot across the board), cloned and insured, I had great fun teasing the goons in the bank / cantina area. If you're seriously underpowered and outgunned shoot and scoot is a good tactic.
Oh aye, I was hearing that our TN gives us a bit of an advantage in some places, especially if you shoot and scoot and the opposition's not got the long legs us rangers have... /wink

I am missing something. Did some rogue SOE employee break into your home and force you to get the badge? ;-)
PvP is a choice. It's a choice that is encouraged but a choice none the less.

Yep and it comes with the territory and no to my knowledge there are no rebel NPC scans of Imperial players... and why would there be? One victory aside, it's pretty clear that the alliance is getting their butt handed to them in the time frame of this game.
I'll admit, I have some pretty harsh views on PvP in MMORPGs and I tend to subscribe to the Captain Jack Sparrow theory of conduct: The only thing that matters is what a man can do and what a man can't do. If it's within the letter and spirit of the rules; battle on baby, battle on!

Nope, no rogue SOE employee forced their way into my house, etc etc, but, as I understood it at the time and as I understand it now, you can't get the glow without at least one faction themepark or the corvette. Given that I'm a ranger, running about in the backswoods of Corellia seemed more fun than sitting in the load area of the corvette while the 'uber' tour group go do their thing. Had already been Imp and may go that way again at some point.
About the only reason am still with the Alliance is that its a useful way to get paid for shooting things.
As for who is winning the GCW, I really could care less, likewise, unless it gets in the way of me going about other business I've no problem with getting killed in PvP. TBH, if I've been TEF'd coming out of a starport or by a patrol I'd much rather they just got on with it, killed me, let me clone and come back 'rejuvinated'. After all, the chances are am not carrying a weapon, wearing armour or buffed. Big victory, huh?
But, in context of the original post, I was merely illustrating instances where you can find yourself TEF'd, overt, lit up and on the local killim list.
