Lots of people would pick up Ranger just for that skill. It would be nice but I'm not sure that the system generates the loot until after the creature is killed. This could cause a bit of a problem with setting something like this up.

On a similar note, rangers having aslightly betterchance of getting loot from creatures wouldn't be a bad idea.

Can you think of a good reason why Rangers should be the ones to get this? I can see how seeing creature loot might be applicable (that krayt looks like he has an upset stomach--that must be some pearl...) but why should we be able to get more loot? I'd love to see this happen but we need to give the devs a good reason (and I don't think "because we know how to kill it without damaging the loot as much" is a good enough reason, but who knows). These would be nice features but I don't see the Devs putting them in.

I think the reason to back this idea up is prety much obvious.

Rangers are extremely knowledgeable of a creature's anatomy so they are more likely to salvage/harvest more loot from them. They know where to look, how to get to it, the most effective methods of extracting the loot.

I think the question "why should a ranger have this skill?" is irrelivent, the question we must be asking ourselves is "why should non-rangers/scout be able to extract loot off a creature?" They know nothing of the creatures anatomy, where to look and how to extract it.

Great idea. Not sure about the generation of the loot by the software though. But a certain /delve command to look at what it has would definantly make a huge impact for Rangers. It would make us much more valuable to groups.

It should only be available to Master Rangers too.

"This could cause a bit of a problem with setting something like this up."

The primary issue I foresee is that in order to keep the rare loot at the level the developers want, they would need to reduce the chance of the loot spawning.

Namely, if we only attacked creatures who gave us loot, the playerbase would be more efficient in harvesting said loot...Therebylooting more of the good stuff, and increasing the supply in the system.

I'll add the item to the list, but I doubt we'll ever see it.

I'm not so sure it will get folks to try the profession out just for this. Perhaps if it is low enough in the skill tree they would, but if it only shows at master, and they don't make an alt just for this, 140 points is not really worth 'precog' on loot. If they would improve the loot, maybe.

Im not really sure I like this although it would be useful, when I go hunting for giant kimos for the RIS scale, or any other critter that would drop a nice bit of loot, I consider receiving a useful item lucky. I think that knowing what a creature would drop beforehand would take the fun and surprise out of hunting.

True, supposedly we do know the tactics, feeding habits of the creatures, what we dont know is what is in its stomach. I dont have a portable x-ray scanner or a tri-corder to put up to a krayt dragon and report this one's got a pearl. When I have looted pearls, or armor, or anything else cool, it was a nice little surprise.

Although I think that there is a seed of a great idea, there needs to be more brainstorming or peer review to add to this idea.

Naturally Im torn, I would like to be more useful in a group by being able to provide good info on any animal about to be killed, I really dont want to open my gift before x-mas.

Lastly, there is the problem of finders keepers, just because I have the skill, does that mean that I deserve the treat? Or do i keep it a secret and hope no-one finds out.

Good idea, but in my opinion, it needs more thought

I would have to agree. I like the luck factor of a loot drop and not knowing that part of it is good. However, maybe a slight modification would be that when loot is dropped, we get a message?? I dont know about other Master Rangers, but I think it is a slight pain to harvest and also loot every time. If I am sitting there carving up the meat, I should realize the loot is there right?

I tend to agree that knowing if a creature has loot or what loot it has is a bit much. I am partial to the idea that we get a better chance at looting from a creature, but I think that is outside the scope of our profession.

"but I think it is a slight pain to harvest and also loot every time."

Most of us run the macro /harvest meat; /loot to perform the looting and harvesting one one keystroke.

Myself, I have a hotkey set up for /harvest bone; /loot, one for/harvest meat; /loot, and one for /harvest hide; /loot.

Good point Nraas. I know setting up three macros to do this is possible , but I am Master Ranger/ CH 4313/ Rifleman 2001 and with all the other macros that I have for my creatures, rilfe special shots and the like, traps, pet stims, i have gotten rid of those and now just use the radial to harvest. And yes I use two full hot key bars. My point is just this, if after we harvest, we got a simple little message saying "Creature contains loot" it would be nice. Just my input
