Thread: Alright Masters....
I am a 4/0/4/3 Ranger, Master TKM, Novice Smuggler and Marksman 0/4/0/0.
I have noticed that my traps do not work very well on high level mobs (like over 100 creature difficulty).
So I wanted to know if from your experience being a Master Ranger:
1) Does it help significantly with your trapping ability, are you effective at trapping even HL mobs?
2) What about your /conceal ability, are you able to sniff around HL mobs without it breaking?
I have always fancied myself a Ranger, but the fact that I am not a master leaves me a bit empty inside. The drawback to going full Ranger for me is I will pretty much have to drop my Marksman skill which is REALLY sweet for pulling mobs. I can DOT em with health shot, then go to peace mode, retreat to a safe distance and wait for them to aggro me, which keeps me from pulling a whole lair at once.
If I go Master Ranger (dropping smuggler and all marksman) I will lose the health shot which will make my pistol skill useless. I thought of going Master Ranger then going Creature Handler to get some nicer mounts and pets.
So, is it worth it for me to lose my Pistol skills and go Master or am I maybe better off how I am. As an FYI, I will never drop my TKM as that is the basis for my toon (my little RPing).
:edit: I think its 150, but im not sure, might be 100

Stops working at lest 130 for me... um hmm I might need to double check that... 100 seams reasonable.

You have TKM. Why for are you keeping any pistol? For giggles?? Oh, the only benefit is HS1. So drop smuggler, get novice Pistoleerand free up some points to get more Ranger. I will not try and talk you out of TK, but you don't catch me wahhh ping'ing creatures from 3 meters. I stand at 64 meters and shot them.
Well, I only have novice Smuggler, so Novice Pistoleer and Smuggler have the same cost 6 points. Those 6 points cannot get me much of anything in Ranger. I can get the last trapping box, but then I have 4 free SP's not being used. Thus the all or nothing type attitude I have.

Yes, I can trap things that a Master Scout can't. Dunno about the /conceal. Either maskscent works or it doesn't, and most high level mobs break both. At least the high level stuff I been playing with.
I am not a master scout, I am Ranger 4/0/4/3, so I am more concerned with "mastering" the skill or not.

Ha!
If you have any Ranger skills, you're a Master Scout

I assume that you have the pistol/smuggling skills so you can hit a creature from a distance, lure them and then wail on them with TKM. Couldn't you do that with Novice Marksman? I'm not an expert... just a question. Plus you'd get some skillpoints to spend elsewhere (I happen to enjoy the pets I have).
My 2 cents.

Creature handler takes skill points to use. Droids are free.
No argument here, only a little addition: only one droid or one pet for non-ch... a CH can have 3 pets + droid, as in a one (wo)man band/army
Pets require growing time, food, training as you progress or you look for someone to train them for you. Droids require batteries, you train them once.
Droids are not affectionate. Pets are
Pets run if hit by AOE intimidate, droids don't.
Good pets with good ferocity don't run. Droids DO run when they don't have at least 1 combat module fitted.
Between my two droids I have energy, electrical and kinetic attacks. 90% of pet attacks are kinetic.
So a pet with good resist vs kinetic and ham will last way longer then a droid. Until they better the droid armor, a pet is better in tanking.
My droids can self heal as they tank and fight. You heal your pets. (but not mind wounds in combat)
Well droid doesn't use mind.... Should replace mindbar with battery bar
Oh yeah, I can also heal my droids.
I say again - CH is useless. I harvest them, I don't train them or tame them.
I do it all

Well, the advantage to having the smuggler skill is simply so I can slice all those locked containers I seem to get. The Marksman/Pistol skill is for exactly what you described. However, I need to stay 0/4/0/0 to keep Health Shot I. Health Shot I allows me to DOT the mob then draw them in. For the "pulling" to work I simply DOT them with a Health Shot I (which is a health line bleed) then go to peace mode. This allows me to withdraw to a safe distance from the lair. Then when the next "tick" of the bleed happens the mob aggroes on me, but doesn't bring his friends. It is very effective when dealing with big game like Kimo's, Rancors, Krayts, ETC.
So what I am trying to determine is if it is a good idea for me to go Master Ranger and get the extra +20 to trapping which would cause me to drop to something like 0/1/0/0 Marksman which is basically a waste of skill points. Thus I figured I would sue those extra points to go CH and have the ability to use some decent pets. I think I could go CH 1/1/0/0 or something....
EDIT: Oh, I could also pick Novice Medic back up instead of Marksman or CH.........
