Thread: Why the crippling skills point costs for ranger ?
i think we got stuck with the high skill point requirement because everything in Scout has to do with everything in Ranger
for example....3 of the scout trees and 3 of the marksman trees had nothing at all to do with bounty hunter, so it was easy to revamp their requirements
same with the other ranged professions and etc....
they were trying to balance all combat professions (including skill points) but i think they would've had a hard time doing so with Ranger as we use all of our scout skills as a Ranger
the only way i see them dropping the Ranger skillpoint requirements is to revamp the scout profession first, and THEN work on the Ranger profession
since we are basically a "glorified scout" in order to revamp us, they first have to do something with scout
As Rangers, we use Mask Scent, Trapping, Camping, Harvesting, etc....
i just got thinking....
if they wanted to make the Ranger pre-reqs only 2 lines of Scout....what 2 would you choose?
when i thought about this....i realized.....i'd keep Master Scout
the only way they could convince me to do otherwise would be to totally revamp the Scout AND Ranger professions, sorta like what i posted just a minute ago
(yeah, i'm bored lol - sorry for the spam)
As things stand, Ranger is (on paper at least) merely a "super scout". The only real differences between scout and ranger are tracking and rescue. Everything else in ranger is simply a scaling up of scout abilities. That being the case, it is my belief that there is as much indecision between the devs as there is in the ranger community of what to do with ranger.
My best guess on what to do with Ranger is to split it into two professions, one being creature-centric and one being military/pvp-centric. Each profession would a different pair of scout lines. That way if you wanted to be the "Ultimate Ranger" you'd take both professions, and then the master scout box would be an optional extra if you wanted the extra skill mods.

Like others have said, it's to do with the near-isomorphism of Ranger to Scout.
