If the devs won't work on 1 Ranger profession, why would the make two?

Good point. Besides, the non-creaturecentric ranger would most likely be close to SL. Let's not go down that road again.

Point. However, one could argue that the devs prefere writing things new, rather than fixing the old. The combat revamp being a case in point!

Please don't get upset and reset your computer like me after being knocked down for the ninth time in a row with nothing to do about it except hammer F1 (Stand) and hope it wears off.

Anything with Knockdown recovery and any state recoveries is a good start

Until about seven weeks ago, several professions had skill costs like those of Ranger (Doctor, CM, Commando, and at one point, BH). Then the CU hit and those were all changed--well, except for Ranger. We're not sure why.

Being a Ranger isn't so much a profession as a calling. There's all this talk of a revamp and all these great things that could be done, but I hope we don't become more strong than we need to be. I like knowing that if I see someone with Master Ranger over their head, it's there not because they want to be a better BH/strike it rich/whatnot, but because they heard the calling, too.

So I guess there's no real reason for the extra SP cost, but I like to consider it a way to prove you really heard the calling. Or something like that.

BH is also a good option. You save on some skillpoints, and even if you never hunt a mark, it's a nicely balanced, versatile profession. I have it and I've only done one bounty, and it was an NPC one for kicks.

Yup Yup, I took just the combat lines from BH, that is 0/4/4/4, I get all sorts of cool state changes, Knockdown, Dizzy, Blind, can use rifles, carbs and pistols and have lots of skill points left over for other stuff.

Ok, as for having to have master scout for ranger as all the skills are similar. Why does doctor only have to have 2 lines of medic when they themselves are just better medics. Just wanted to get that out as it has been bugging me and someone brought up that issue earlier.

As for being a ranger I love it. So much in fact that I about mastered it when I first started then I mastered it on my alt. I have 0444 bh and 0003 pistols to go along with it. I don't do the most damage out there but I have fun with it. I have to drop to 0001 pistols before I'm done so I can get FS survival and luck. Just do what seems to be most fun to your playstyle. I've found out that in this game that is what keeps me playing, not being an uber tank or damage dealer, but that is just me.

As some have already posted, getting our pre-reqs lowered to two scout branches is pointless. Know what I'd spend my free points on? Mastering scout, because I use all those mods. I'd prefer the skill point cost staying the same, as long as we got a good revamp. I'd even prefer an ID type lowering of ranger box costs to removing master scout as a pre-req. Think about it-- which two lines would you be willing to give up? Hunting or exploration? Not me. Trapping? Hell, no. Survival? Right, then I could make a HTFB, but not be able to use it thanks to mylower camping mod. Cutting the scouting pre-reqs for ranger would only benefit non-masters, and make mastering even less viable or desirable.

I agree Al. I would keep master scout and ranger. Just saying that it's funny that a doc is just a better medic is all and they have to use less points. I wasn't saying to get only 2 lines in scout to be a ranger, I like it like it is myself.

I wasn't directly responding to your post, Ecott. I know how you feel about what it means to be a ranger. I was just addressing the OP'squestion. Because of the way ranger builds off of scout, it's just not feasible to have a lower pre-req cost withoutlessening us. Even the Image Designer skillpoint setup would lessen us-- as if our elite prof is somehow not worth as much as the others. Would I like some extra skillpoints to spend? Totally. But I'd ratherhave my 140 points be worth more. Plus, the skillpoint cost is a potential lever in getting good stuff out of our revamp.

How about a skill-point rebate when you reach master ranger, as a little reward?
(Yes it's a joke!)
