Thread: Convince me to go Ranger!
Want to be in a profession that gets its best ideas handed out to rifleman?
How about being in a profession that might be merged with Squad Leader because they dont know what to do with us?
How about being in a FOTM profession because we have snare and root abilities?
Like Camps? They look pretty dont they? Pretty useless but they are there.
Want to have extra points for respecing when we get the next inevitable respect? Go Ranger
Want to be in the only profession that requires a mastered profession but offers nothing other then tracking when you master it?
Welcome to Ranger!

He'll do it too. That crazy dog-man is unstable. You never know what he's capable of.
You all are so funny....hehe
You need to decide for yourself but I can tell you this much. Of all the profession communities, Ranger is the tightest. I have never seen a Ranger "not" help out another Ranger--or another player for that matter--unless it couldn't be helped. ![]()
We are also probably the most insane group of peoplebecause we stick to the ideals of "Ranger" even though we seem to be so overlooked as a profession. lol
But in time...we still will shine brighter.
Yup. Rangers are great people. That is the best reason to become one.

We aren't a powerhouse, but there are aspects that have made it worth it for me.
Setting up a hi-tech field base on a mountain at night in Dathomir to heal wounds. It was time consuming, but far from the outposts our camp is the only sign of civilization out there. (POIs too, I suppose, but they are set locations)
Being able to walk up to an ancient krayt dragon, under camo, and having the audacity to /pet it-without fearing that it would attack and do what comes naturally. Camo has done wonders in all kinds of situations-it allowed me to penetrate the Woolamander POI on Yavin without getting aggro. (We won't discuss the extraction part, though, which was far more hasty)
While the usefulness of tracking seems to have dropped with the advent of combat levels, it still allows a ranger to keep an eye out for other NPC's or players at long range.
Having the ability to stick scout class traps on the highest CL creatures out there. Pop-tarts are the most favored these days, but others have their uses too.
The knowledge that as a Master Ranger, I am far more unique than the endless hordes of "Jedi". In a galaxy of Light and Dark Jedi and Bounty Hunters, the ranger remains a rare breed-and the master of the profession less so.
The fact that-as a general rule-the Ranger community is a far more civil bunch than you'll find in many forums.
Ulitmately, the choice is yours alone. For now, being a ranger is a state of being as much as it is a profession. We remain hopeful-perhaps foolishly so-that changes are coming that will justify our dedication; but even they do not, we have remained true to ourselves. If you share this state of mind, then I expect we will be sending you congratulatory messages one day in the not-too-distant future as you achieve mastery of our profession.
Edited because...well, I neeeded to edit.

Sounds like fun so far, and I am extremely impressed by this Forum.
I'm currently thinking of: Master Ranger, BH 3444, Squad Leader 0400. This leaves me one skillpoint ![]()
My goals are:
Good roleplay. Rangers have huge potential for excursions and expeditions in the harshest environments.
Support my Guild. Tracking for quests, Harvesting for our crafters and a few group bonuses and defences from Squad Leader. Plus system message.
Grind FS experience. I don't want a Jedi, I do want a second character. This will let me bank scout, trapping, rifle, carbines, pistols, combat and squad leader experience which means less trips to that horrible village.
Tactics. DPS isn't my game. I prefer tactics and cunning over simply who has the largest DPS in PvE. (Can I kill it before it kills me by sitting here and mindlessly pressing F8?).
Dynamics and sheer fun. When I'm out hunting and the annoying Jedi shows up and tries to camp/steal (not against all Jedi, I know many nice ones), I can run off to the terminals, grab their mission, run back, track them down and eliminate the problem. Haha, well not quite but it adds some more realism to the game.
All in all, I'm quite excited about this. I will be using up my token respec as this is a total shift from MShipwright/MRifleman. Then I'll grind out the rest ![]()
Feel free to give me more great advice!

Yup and double yup. I think Rangers have the best sense of community of any profession in the game.
Ok, jsut kidding, just don't work against me in shadowfire. Like under cut my prices, making people say, "Ohh, that fortune guy only charges 10 cpu for grind quality..." Yea, that makes me angry /growl /foamatmouth.
They should add customizable emotes. That would be sooo cool.
Oh well ![]()
So let's say I kill something that is worth 4K experience. How would that divide up if I used a trap and a Rifle?
4K Rifles, some Trapping, 400 combat, harvesting exp and would I get pistols for being SL or do I have to use a pistol for that?
