On the In Testing forum

Glad CH's got help, this definately will make them amazingly fun to play, but why do I feel like we're still in the middle of the Combat Upgrade server downtime waiting for fixes on everything in the game to update?

Entertainers needed changes
Creature Handlers got broken
Squad Leaders still don't have the benefits they need
Most of Jedi Healer is useless apparently
BE's are going to need a publish to fix the pets they make
the spawning system is still a mess
And smugglers still aren't smuggling

I'm sure there's more. Maybe Ranger just isn't happening anytime soon. Shoot, I'd be happy if the adhesive mesh worked and came in a stack bigger than my johnson.

"...Creature Handlers can learn those abilities from the pet by fighting with the pet long enough. Once you have learned an ability from a pet you be able to train it to your other pets..."

I can't think where they got this idea from

This will make CH much more fun, specially if the high end abilities are given only to high end creatures. Maybe a Master CH could make money teaching high end abilities to low end pets then selling them, or charging to teach an ability to a another persons pet.

i love that part about the CH learning specials from their pets, then re-teaching those specials to other pets.

CH has been one of the most broken professions around for a long time, nice to see them gettin' some love. (especially since i have some CH skills)

Great new for CH! However, the assimilation of 'other' games continues .

The retraining pets thing is straight out of [rhymes with pow] (and other games?). I am not sure how the new xp works, but in Pow, your pets earned xp/levels as they fought (there were no such things as babies, so they didn't grow).

I wonder if they are referring to another SOE title.

I am also wondering whyRanger has nothing before these major changes, not even bug fixes, re-enabling of /rescue, nothing. What happened to the Smuggler / Ranger / Squad Leader progression of fixes and add-ons that was an alter of a promise for revamps on each?

Excellent changes! If they keep this sort of thing up, there willl be a lot less naysayers. I'm not even upset about the "who comes first" deal. The fact is that a profession that needed love just got some. That's a big deal, and it makes the game as a whole better. That's what really matters. The game as a whole is the most important thing.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Sorry for my bitterness, but the CU was a bad enough assimilation. I finally got over it, and just started enjoying the game again, and now we have ANOTHER pilfered idea. I KNOW the devs can be original, that had achieved it with much success, but they refuse to continue on that path. They truely don't want to be unigue anymore.

meh. I don't think borrowing good ideas is a bad thing. Which game introduced the concept of controling pets? Which game introduced the concept of mounts? It wasn't WoW. So technically, anything that they do with pets is a result of borrowing from other people. Every MMO borrows good ideas and put them into their own system. and every RPG that uses a d20 system is borrowing off of pen-and-paper games, so I really don't think we should worry about where stuff came from, just see if it works well and if it's balanced.

heck, with this change to CH, I might just be tempted to move over to Master CH (a road I started down long ago, and sadly walked away from for Rifles) and then pull as much marksman as I can to have a COUPLE "specials" to use with my CL50 and CL54 non-master-cert weapons that are my favorites now. Nice changes indeed, and I'm happy for our CH brothers and sisters to be shown some dev love, and finally get a fix that actually fixes things and makes playing CH (hopefully) more fun and interesting (As well as viable!). Phenix is right, any change to broken systems and professions that makes the game overall better is a GOOD thing. I'll be just as happy when Smugglers can finally smuggle, and when Squad Leaders can finally, oh... I don't know, build raid groups and have skills that make them an indespensible part of any larger group activity (especially GCW), and when Entertainers become indispensible by providing the best XP gain buffs int he game, and when tailors using BE tissues in clothes finally gets fixed, and when crafters don't suffer from the experimentation bugs. And I'm sure there are many, many more as well. And yes, in there I hope and pray that we get some lovin' too, at LEAST fix the broken things (rescue, traps not working, camps auto-disbanding as they are pulled, etc). Heck, with the changes Blix has announced for BH NPC missions, would it be all THAT hard to pretty much reuse that code and develop "big game hunter" terminals as well, that require Novice Ranger cert to use, and "lock" a particular target so only we or our group can attack and loot it? And put some of the nice loot drops there too (make 'em organic, tissues and glands and whatever, but make 'em COOL and USEFUL).

Wow. That's very good for Creature Handlers...

... but I must admit I'm a tad jealous....
