Thread: Share your Tips for big game solo kills
Ok Rangers, you just solo'd some beastie or beasties. How did ya do it? Share. The one post by Yp asks what's the biggest baddest you solo'd. I wanna know, how did ya do it. Or, even better, what's a good mission for creds or XP, and how do you do it to stay alive.
We all should know the.... kill the creatures outside the lair, tap the lair, kill the spawn, tap the lair, kill the spawn, kill the lair trick... Specifics Rangers... what works on what beasties??? Do not get specific on weapons, but do get specific on traps. Social or not is also really helpful.
What I would like is this- Beast. Creds if appicable. What planet. XP. Rate it. How do ya do it, to include if it is a lair, the variations that are there. If you use a tank, uhhh pet, let us know too. Who knows, some Ranger may compile these and post em someplace??
Gronda - 3k mission on Corellia - 1000 weapon xp per adult. Easy pickings.
Scent mask and walk up to an adult - 15 m away, Pdart him, Glow wire him as he is resistant to some attacks, pop 3-6 shots in, then move back to max range. Once he charges, start running in a circle around the lair, target will follow. The rest of the grondas will watch as you take out your target. They are slow, you can about outcrawl them, tho I would not recommend it.The dwarf gronda, not so slow, but an easier kill. Pdart, glow wire at max range, stand your ground. Babies, decent xp for an easy kill. No traps, just shoot. Total time on target, 10 - 15 mins, depends on how fast they are spawning. Usually 6 adults, 3 dwarfs, 2 baby per lair.
Warning - War gronda are social, do not attempt unless you are ready for a mob rush.
Lets go people, I do not have all day...ohwait.... yeah I do...

Enraged Kimogilas, Kimogilas, Juvenile Kimogilas on Lok. I don't remember the xp they give. What I do is use a known strategy: apply 2 bleed shots and use warning shot to keep them at bay. As long as you get a couple of regular shots you'll get xp. Only problem is the **edit** warp bug. I had a Canyon Krayt's mind bar nearly empty when the bugger appeared on top of me.
Same strategy works with any other large critter I've encountered as long as it isn't social and doesn't warp.
Greater Canyon Krayt Dragon.
No pets, no droids, no exploits and I took no damage. Just me, my trusty DLT20a and a box of muon gold.
biggest I took on solo was Bull Ronto's (which are social, so be careful) Normal Ronto's are not social.
Bleed, Adhesive Mesh, Secondary trap, mindshot, mindshot, reapply traps as needed.

It seems a lot of these tactics must be pistol tactics as well. I can't trap, then run in and get 5 or 6 shots off, and reapply trap. Asa Rifleman I have to stay way back and hope my warning shot comes off quickly enough as a creature charges me. Not complaininng at all, I love my rifle.
I'd be really curious as to how our faithful melee Ranger's solo big beasties.
P.S. Did you say a DLT20A you're solo'ing with?!
I don't believe the solo Krayt story. 1 hit while holding a rifle and the x2.5 mod would waste you.
In the beginning of the game, there was an exploit where animals would get "hung up" on rocks and be unable to fight. Devs must have fixed that with warping monsters. (nice change ya bone heads!)
Anyway , as for best tricks of the trade..adhesive mesh and lots of it.
Ready for a Laugh,
Naboo
Capper Spineflap missions out of Kaadra 2k credit says difficulty 16, just 5-6 cappers spineflaps. Bad xp great credit.
Gualama Lairs, watch out for dappled as they are social. 2-3k pending distance
nuna/kaadu lairs for avian meat orders + credits
Rori
Torton Missions 2-3k 800xp ground shakers (wooly hide)
Nudfuh or nudfug can't remember 2k pudgy and regulars good for leather and bone, 1.5-2k
Vir vir missions (wooly again) in 3 weeks on rori I only got 2 vir vir mission's in narmle
Levilsquails 1.5-2.5k kite city
If your fond of pain Elder pouriss (spelled wrong)
Tat
scky/mutant womprats. 1.5-2k (bone at least last shift was good)
I find tat one of the warpiest planets around seems that mutant womprat's can teleport
Now for big things to solo, here is another good laugh
Ikopi stag's , rogue fambaa's, plains hunter's and Peko Peko albatross
My record is 3-4, 2-6, 0-7 and 0-12
I figured by now i would be smart enough to not fire at some of these but nooo.
i think my
The biggest thing I've taken solo is a Rogue Fambaa.
They are aggro so maskscent, close to 60m and get maskscent xp. Kneel, pause, go prone to avoid warping. With laser rifle, mindshot2, mindshot1, headshot2, then he starts charging. Use lots of adhesive mesh and phecnacine darts to keep him at least 40m away. Let the bleeds do the work and use headshot2 when you feel comfortable. Don't use up your own mindpool too much and always watch for the traps to wear off so you can throw another.
These tactics worked for me. I must admit, without the Ranged Support line in the Marksman skill, I have resorted to pets in order to solo creatures. I dropped the Ranged line to take Creature Handler a bit farther, so with that in mind, here is my soloing tactics.
I always use plenty of Adhesive Mesh and Phen Darts. Flash Bombs and Sonic Pulse don't help to freeze anything. I am also Pistoleer, so here is what I usually do:
This works against any creature, but like I said, relies on the Ranged Support line in Marksman.
So, I go prone. Change my compass to 64m view. At MAX range for whatever weapon. In my case, it was pistol. Pistol usually is best at 50 meters, depending on pistol type. I use Tatooine Sunburn, but not always. When prone at max distance, start off with a bleedshot, like /healthshot2, then fire at will for a bit. When the beastie starts towards me, I used to use /suppression. Now, once /suppression froze them, I'd throw a Phen Dart. If it hit, I bleed the sucker more. I also find that when a beast is not moving, /disarmshot does a little extra damage. If it starts towards me again, I /warningshot, then throw Adhesive Mesh. By this time, no matter what beast it is, I am usually halfway to killing it. I mix up the same tactics previously mentioned, and it ALWAYS worked for me.
Now I just use pets to tank. Though, I have a Grand Wrix. I care a lot about it. I am proud to say after 2 weeks of owning and fighting with it from Endor to Dantooine, he has yet to lose a vitality point, or more to the point, has yet to be incapped. This includes me taking on 2 Voritor Trackers while my group was incapped. I used my normal tactics, but without the Ranged line, I cannot solo without pets.
It's also important to have the right weapons. I carry Acid, Energy and Heat. All my pistols are Armor Piercing 1 at least. I have an FWG5, a DX2, and Power5.
I don't believe the solo Krayt story. 1 hit while holding a rifle and the x2.5 mod would waste you.
That's why you kite them and try to avoid getting hit. A krayt hits me for 4000 twice since the lag doesn't register I'm incapped till after a few secs after the second hit lands. Even if I do survive a hit the next one is close by so if it closes into melee range I'm dead.
I solo Mountain worrts and mountain dewbacks on Tat. I think they are both around 2000 xp or more. Maybe 350 trapping XP. Not totally sure about this.
Mountain worrts don't come to the rescue of their buddies, but they are usually paired with giant worrts that do. Always take out any giant worrts that might be hanging around first. Dewbacks are social, so you have to be patient and try to break up the herd.
I'm a carbineer (0-1-0-0). Here's my strategy:
action shot 1
action shot 2
legshot 3
phecn dart
retreat 10m
legshot 3
legshot 3
legshot 3
(then I repeat from the phecn dart down until the thing is dead)
My action bar is pumped up a bit. I think it is 1200 in order to comfortably use only specials. Yes. There is a bit of downtime involved to get my action bar back up to full, but it's the thrill of the hunt that matters. Sure, I can take out a syck nest in almost the time it takes me to down a dewback and earn the same amount of XP without having to rest between kills. What's the fun in that?
It seems a lot of these tactics must be pistol tactics as well.
Yeah, Pistoleer is absurdly overpowered in this game. As a pistoleer, no strategy should start out 'Open fire at 50m.' At 50m you should be missing 98% of the the time.
Pistoleers get all of the speed of a pistol with the range of a rifle and the damage of a carbine. Throw in CH abilities and you can pretty much do anything.
When I first started playing the game, everyone knew that both those professions were overpowered. I thought-- " I won't be one of the masses trying to be an uber l33t d00d right off the bat. I'll strive to be something a little different and I'll be rewarded when the devs finally bring some balance to the game".
Two and a half months later, I finally made Master Ranger last night. Still waiting.
