Someone asked for feedback from the Melee Rangers...Here it is.

Even without having the luxury of bleeding something and then runnning to hide, I am always surprised at the critters I can solo. Being a Master Swordsman makes traps that root usless...so stun and blind is all that benefit me in quest to kill everything. Torturs on Talus go down in 3 smacks from my hammer and Tortons on Rori go down in about 4..but they are social so watch out. I Haven't found anything on Naboo or Corellia that i can't solo and the only critter on Tat. that gives me heck is the Krayt...which i have only had the chance to face once and everytime since when i encounter one there always seems to be some slacker with a couple at-sts or rancors chasin the thing. The same goes for Lok. Dathomir is rough but doable and i can solo a rancor with the help of some doctor buffs. Endor is one of the few places that excels in killing me because of all the poison and diseased critters there. Yavin 4 is a piece of cake...I fear nothing there. Finally there is Dantooine which can be a lot of fun if you are buffed to withstand the onslaught because there is not a single critter on this rock that is not social. Being so buffed, I can take out whole nests of Bols, Pikets and voritors all by my lonesome.

Having said all that, must say that i do use a bleed to kill the one critter in SWG that runs from me in every encounter. Stormtroopers must be trained in the cowardly arts as well as the combat arts because they run like scared kids from my blade. I simply use mind bleed on them and move on to the next until they all are bleeding. This gives me the chance to burst among them, finishing what the bleed began. Its fun and some of the more elite cowards..err stormtroopers give 3-4k in xp.

I've not found ranger to be very useful for actual hunting, unfortunately. The traps, to me, were just an annoyance on my way to master. They decrease the amount of combat xp you get and that's about it, really. I use an FWG5 (48-220 dmg 1.7 spd slice) and my greater sludge panther. On the starter planets, I've not run into anything lately that I haven't been able to take out with that combination. (Understandably staying away from krayts and tusken villages.) So that's the answer to your question. I don't solo big game as a ranger, I "solo" big game as a pistoleer/creature handler and then use ranger to harvest.

As for the biggest game I've taken out... rogue faambas, voritors, savage humbabas, mountain squills, etc. All of these I can take with help from my panther and plenty of petstim B. Without my panther, the biggest game I've taken out would be rogue faambas. I had set up a short combat macro that alternated warningshot and bodyshot2 3 times each, and opened up combat with healthshot. It would take about a few minutes, but I could do it so long as the faamba didn't decide to charge.

Also, I wear a full suit of 58% kinetic protect chitin armour whenever I'm not using my panther or up against game that swarms and might decide to agg me.

It seems a lot of these tactics must be pistol tactics as well.

Yeah, Pistoleer is absurdly overpowered in this game. As a pistoleer, no strategy should start out 'Open fire at 50m.' At 50m you should be missing 98% of the the time.

Pistoleers get all of the speed of a pistol with the range of a rifle and the damage of a carbine. Throw in CH abilities and you can pretty much do anything.

When I first started playing the game, everyone knew that both those professions were overpowered. I thought-- " I won't be one of the masses trying to be an uber l33t d00d right off the bat. I'll strive to be something a little different and I'll be rewarded when the devs finally bring some balance to the game".

Two and a half months later, I finally made Master Ranger last night. Still waiting.

If you are referring to me, I don't think its fair to insinuate I am trying to be uber anything. I don't know a whole lot about the game's mechanics.

I was a Master Marksman/Master Scout before deciding on Pistoleer. You know the only reason I chose Pistol? Because I found it worked best at melee range. Every creature I fought as a noobling would slaughter me at close range with a rifle. Same with carbine. I didn't realize all the madness being argued about with the elite classes until I dove deeper into the forums. Ranger makes more sense with a rifle, but I didn't ever intend to be a CH, so I thought as a solo Ranger, the best weapon to compliment my play style was a pistol. It's quick, efficient, and the less damage can be offset by the fact that its faster and will still fire when a creature closes. As for me doing the same dmg as a Carbineer, I suggest you look a bit into what you are saying.

I play a lot with 2 guys. One is Rifleman/Bio-Eng, one is Carbineer/BH. the Carbineer's specials make mine look simply silly damage wise. The Rifleman's specials are even worse. I would be happy to paste my combat chat logs so you can see for yourself. The only thing to keep in mind is we all have fantastic weapons, and we use the best powerups we can find by the crate. Add on some buffs, and anyone can be super-uber. I do on the average 150 points of damage a hit. I have gotten my pistols to 1.4 speed with good powerups. What can I say? It's tough to read your oppositions combat and just assume he is shooting an average pistol at you.

I only PvP'd once, and I got slaughtered by a BH. I didn't ever intend to PvP, but you know.. go overt long enough and it will happen.

The answers to both your questions, how big and how to get the big guy, are answered here. When these picks come back up look at the system messages on these screenshots. Also read the Galactic Ranger Handbook and the replies to answer all your animal-killing questions.
