Im debating if should become a Master Ranger. Currently Im a TkA novice and Im in search of a second profesion that might compliment my character. M Ranger seem very cool plus it has a +defense on attacks which seems very apealing.

Could any TKA/Ranger give me some advice on this combo and why its working for them?

"Could any TKA/Ranger give me some advice on this combo and why its working for them?"

Hmmm...

I do indeed play a Tera Kasi (0.4.4.4).

I am Tera Kasi because I like the glory of "in your face" combat... Standing toe-to-toe with a Fambaa and thrashing it what for.

There was another thread regarding why choose to Melee in PvE...

Since most critters tend to favor close combat in the end, I find the benefit of being a melee fighter to overshadow the drawbacks (kiting, etc.).

The unarmed toughness skill cuts the damage I receive to a minimum, allowing me to compete against the larger beasts.

If your weapon breaks while out in the field, the Tera Kasi is still a viable combatant... A Vibro Knuckler will add +100 points of damage to your attack, but without it you can still hit for +300 (and that is without the added bonusthat TK Master provides ).

I find Melee to be extremely challenging, and that is why I choose it... I love a challenge.

----

If you intend to participate in PvP however, melee is extremely challenging... And might not be sufficiently powerful enough for most players.

I PvP in theed recently (Master Ranger) and i am a BH. well, TKA seem to be the only class that can seriously kick arse. they can use the spitting rawl and just THWACK....

I'm Trandoshan TKA/Ranger and the combo is great. I currently still have Rifle Specialist and Ranged Specialist, but I rarely use them. I'm beginning to use traps as my ranged weapons and it's working pretty good.

I'm not sure about the defense bonus. There is a creature-to-hit bonus, but I think that's offense.

This combo works for me because I like to hunt and fight toe-to-toe. I only pull with my rifles. When I have to drop Marksman I'll probably still use a cdef rifle for pulling (and I like rifles no matter what kind!). Camps are great for healing and I can explore far from cities with few worries.

Transhodan TK/Ranger here.
I don't think I could be happier. I love the toe-to-claw battle style.
I have always played a tank in other RPG's because its sort of how I
am in real life
I love the fact I don't have to hide behind a blaster and I have the scars to prove it!

The ranger is a great compliment to any profession IMHO.
Its great being able to go on mass carnage sprees AND make tons of money
even if you don't choose any destroy missions. Plus its great living off the land.
Even if that means sitting in a high tech camp

I'm a trando Master Ranger/TK 4,4,4,3.95 (will be TKM tonight). I like the combo for terrain negotiation (dam kiters) but really I'm not sure if it's as good a fit as I originally thought as I can't think of anything about ranger that fits the skills of a TK. I'd really like a better pet and the ability to heal is crucial. I can't have both since TKM+MR=232 SP.

Getting the Precision line before meditate is quite a feat - I take it you did some ranged skills at some point?

You need better knucklers.

I too am a Trandoshan Master TKA / Master Ranger on the Wanderhome server. It is a very fun combo to play as it does not rely heavily on any equipment.

Since there seem to be a few of us, I'd like to ask a question. Which class do you think is easier to get mastery in: TK (92 SP) or Ranger (140 SP)? I felt Ranger is easier (certainly took less time). Is this a problem that needs to be addressed, either on the TK side or ranger side?

"I felt Ranger is easier (certainly took less time)."

Ranger definitely less time to do than TK... But that was before the changes to experience.

I don't know how those lastadjustments may have affected my progress compared to TK.

Thx! for you replies and advice.

I think I will go for master ranger. Although the xp for camps stinks and its taking forever to acomplish.

The rest of my skills will go either to doctor or musician.

Thx!

Fishing while you camp will help with the XP (make sure you stay in the camp) and placing them in a high traffic area helps (like near the bridge in Theed by the river). Good luck.

It of course depends on your playstyle, but Ranger really adds nothing whatsoever to PvP, aside from the minor +ranged defense / +melee defensebonuses you get at the Master box.

Tracking as it stands is somewhat useful, limited to ~400m range. This will be upgraded later with the addition of /track (The ability to track a specific target).

Traps are for PvE creatures only and currently the Ranger ones do not work (We are getting unique placeable traps in the future supposedly)

Camo Kits are decent, if you don't mind playing crafter and harvesting very specific resources to make kits specifically for each planet (including floral resources).

Harvesting is pretty decent, but with the global organic resource nerf + the fact that any grouped pc or npc will take away 40% of your /harvest it has become less useful.

As it stands right now, if I were looking for classes to compliment a TK Master, they would likely be -

Creature Handler

Doctor

Pistoleer/Smuggler

Commando

Personally I've been debating switching to Doctor for the buffs, but Creature Handler is pretty nice as well, since I have to play with Exploration 4 anyway.
