Thread: Question for rifleman rangers
I have just taken Novice rifleman also, but am only going to work up the sniping tree.......
My question is this......Is it worth my hard earned money to buy a T-21? and does a T-21 have a great advantage over the laser rifle I already have ( I have seen T21's at 480 max damage......but thats not really much more than my laser rifle is it?)
Thanx in advance
Spoff
My current T21, made with a stock, sliced for damage and with a +min/max damage powerup, is 255-600someodd damage. Blows the doors off a Laser Rifle.
Do shop around for a good one though. And if you find a good one, try to get two or three, just in case yours wears out when the resources aren't available (which happens with disturbing frequency.) If you are on Corbantis, I recommend Armani, located just outside of Bestine.
You've also got to remember that a T-21 is AP3 and a Laser Rifle is only AP2. This can really make a big difference also.
At the risk of appearing to be a total berk......
AP2 & AP3 - Err..?
AP3 = Heavy Armor Piercing
AP2 = Medium Armor Piercing
AP1 = Light Armor Piercing
AP0 = No Armor Piercing

Right. That's exactly what the developers said. The rifleman professions collectively asked the devs how exactly armor piercing damage was supposed to work, and they said "There's four levels of Armor Piercing, from None to Heavy." The riflemen said, "What's the difference?" The devs replied, "We're not really sure how armor piercing works."
I don't have a link to this proto-conversation, but I clearly remember reading about it on the rifleman boards. That was a while back though, so perhaps things have changed. ![]()

It was more like the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing. One set of feedback indicated that a damage multiplier could happenif AP was higher then AR (Armoured Resistance). (This is totally negated by a vunerability tho, due to a bug). A dev said later thsi was not true. There was testing that proved them wrong. We are supposing that they are bent on changing this and much lashing and wailing of teeth ensued about a comming nerf. So far no changes have come to this to date, bugs and all. You might want to do some research in the RIfleman forums.
The only thing I see in this template (sense I'm one I probably should comment) is the slight (very slight) increase in accuracy on critters and /conceal using /concealedshot and prone will allow up to 6 misses before the critters will notice. Very good combo for soloing hard to do critters if you can't find help... but this tends to be time consuming.
"It was more like the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing."
Exactly.
- Developer 1wrote it up one way originally.
- The design got changed by Developer 2 and coded up with the revision.
- Developer 1's original document was used as canon rather than the revised version.
- The community noticed the error, and confronted the Developer 1.
- Developer 2 came forward and led Developer 1 through the code to show them exactly how it does work.
- The document was revised, and everyone was satisfied.
"and everyone was satisfied."
So armor piercing actually does work? Awesome. I don't really care about how it works, just so long that it does. When I heard about that confusion initially I assumed it was sort of a concept that they eventually planned to implement, not an actual feature... sort of like Droid Engineers, Chefs, and Squad Leaders. ![]()
Which reminds me... with so many professions that are broken, why are they working so hard to break this one, instead of just fixing the ones that are already broken? If it ain't borked, don't fix it, right?
"So armor piercing actually does work?"
As far as I know, Armor rating does indeed have an impact on damage.
Theissue was with "how it impacted damage", not whether it did or not. ![]()

I don't see the developers recent changes as a malicious action directed at our profession.
They are simply adding functionality to improve the enjoyment of the larger gaming community (of which Ranger is but a drop in the ocean). Doing so just happens to impact our profession more than others.
