Okay, so I apologize for the ambiguous, kinda ominous title of this thread. This isn't an emergency, but I'd like to have as much time as possible to work on a rather long and involved project I'm working on ---The Outdoorsman 2.0--.

In that vein, I have a few questions for you:

1) Are there any other "modules" that you would like to see, other than the ones that have prieviously been described?

2) If you like the idea of modular camping, would you like to see the modules have "types"? As it is worded now, each camp has certain slots where you could put a specific "type" of module. The discussion leading up to the creation of the Modular camping idea was whether in would be better to have no "types". Thus is N'Rass's proposal, there would be a slot for one type of module, and then a slot for another type of module. In another idea for Modular Camping, there were simply X number of slots per camp. Each module took up X number of those slots. So rather than limiting a Ranger to one med module or whatever, the Ranger had the option to put on multiple modules of the same type. Given these two options (or any that you might have) which view of Modular camping works for you?

3) There has been a lot of discussions about how to make /rescue a more effective command. Some would like to see it de-aggro the creature. Some would like to see it do some damage (I'm not sure HOW...maybe an animation of the Ranger throwing a rock?). Some would like it to apply some status changes (stuned, blind, etc.) How would you like to see Rescue come along?

4) There have been several ideas pertaining to the proposed Ranger weapon. In the end, I think several of us agreed: Owen-Lars' ideas have come the closest to balancing the several ideas we have been proposing. The question for me is that of Melee Rangers: should they recieve a weapon that is a viable alternative to the Ranged one, or should the melee weapon be an inferior hunting tool?

5) Here is my newest idea: Hunting missions like those that have been given to bounty hunters. Specific, hard creatures that spawn only for the person on the mission. A Ranger would have to track down the creature. Perhaps a droid, similar to those used by Bounty Hunters, would give the area the creature was in, but a Ranger would have to use /areatrack to find and kill this creature. This would give higher amounts of Scouting skills and would pay well. Read the origianal Outdoorsman proposal for an idea of how this would work. Each city would have these terminals, and they would give missions only for that planet or that region. I have played as BH and the mission structure is the best thing about that proffession. Needing to actually use /areatrack would be a good way to make that skill usefull. I think this terminal, along with the Ranger Weapon idea would make Rangers the BH's of the wilderness.Would other Rangers like to see a mission terminal similar to the BH missions for creature hunting?

Okay, please let me know what you think so I can get to work on the Outdoorsman update.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

1)

-hunting cover(well discussed)

-entertainers stage(with the jedis getting total heal. No reason tents should get battle fatigue healing even if its only with this module. Add in things like bonuses to dancer/musician healing)

- MASH unit(gives 10% bonus to healing like city speciality)

- Image Designer Module (unusual request but give the ID's a remote tent. Would require a Ranger and ID to work together)

- Squad Leader module( to apply some of their skills as basically timed buffs. Im not and never had been a squad leader. But im sure our MR/Master SL can add to this)

2)

Limit the modules to base camps. 1 or 2 for a field baseand 2 or 3 for a HTFB

3)

This should unagro the creature. I dont see anyway we could describe a way for it to do damage. To explain it away as masters of the outdoors we should know how to bring a creature down from a blood rage

4)
You would want the melee'ers to have a viable weapon. Or if you use the bow alternative it gives a brawler a ranged weapon they can use. So it would balance out them not having a viable alternative.

5)

Have this replace or augment the explorer terminals. This is a great idea.

Just for clarification....

"as much as possible" means more than one.

"as soon as possible" means now, dammit!!!!!!!

lol.

Okay, seriously. I would like to start working on updating the Outdoorsman as soon as possible, but I don't want to fall into my old habits of putting my own ideas first. I'd like to see some imput so I can see what other Rangers want so I can put together a proposal that makes the most people happy...even if it means me not getting my way on every single point.

I was just thinking of doing exacty the same thing. There are a lot of new ideas that should be added and some that need to be taken out.

I have one big suggestion, we now have in our hot little hands a true SWG design document in the form of the Smuggler Vision Document. I was lurking in some of the other boards I stumbled into the Core Systems forum and KStarfire, the Star Wars Correspondent, has a sticky there saying that this doc is a goldmine and its what made me think of revamping the Outdoorsman myself. So I suggest we use this for any new proposals, also I would be glad to help in any way you might need.

I'm just going to float some ideas on the topics you mentioned, trying not to constrain myself too much on what i think the SWG game is capable of recreating, but look at things sensibly. With the camps, i'm thinking of things from the view point of a member of the RAF, particulary a trade involved with deploying mobile radars (bases) to hotspots around the globe.

1) Hi tech field base- A radar, precedent set with our areatrack command and the 'who' command. Gives increased situational awareness, great range, names. alligences so a defence could be organised around the base. Anyone can use it? Saves a squad leader from having to wait on our typing to get an idea of who and what is around.

- Repair Bay. Crafter is able to quickly and efficiently repair armour/weapons that have become battle damaged.

- Mess facility. Hmmmm, 'cooking pot' that holds stat increasing food/drink? I'm grabbing at straws there

2) N/A

3) De-aggro's from its current target, but give it a few seconds of 'confusion' before it comes chasing after us, thats when we hope theres some nice hills to go flying up.

4) As a part time swordsman, its a bit unfair to leave out the melee guys. Rather than the weapon, the all round damage increase covers all combat classes, as its a given (i hope) that you'd have at least some elite combat ability to go with ranger.

5) Love to see such a terminal.

I was considering going over the original, but I don't have the time. I would like to list stuff to help you, but I will have to defer till later to do it justice. I will drop in a few comments here though (general outline)

  • New abilities they promised a year ago, like /track

  • Camp: have other profs provide modules, have us have a few as well, help make that desease of 3 hours change to 3 minutes, ect.

  • Combat-hardiness (defense/offense/efficiency): we are fronteerspersons, after all. It should matter.

  • Cavalry: you would think we would know how to use mounts better then most.

  • Stealth, infiltration and evasion: the identifying trinity of Antarians - we should get something here. Even in JtLS.

for now... more detail if I have time.

My ideas on the ranger changes are listed in my post here. I am currently developing ideas for a branch that provides ranger specific specials instead of a ranger weapon that would be an alternative to the weapon. I will post it soon. Btw, I haven't figured out how to update a post. Can anyone tell me?

1) Are there any other "modules" that you would like to see, other than the ones that have prieviously been described?

I would like to see as few modules added as possible, for instance allow factional turrets etc to be placed in an Overt Rangers HTFBK rather than adding a turret as a module, It is not that I am opposed to modular camps, I just think we need to make them simple rather than complex. IE in craftingmeds you could put in a BioEffContoller, Advanced BEC or Janta blood rather then 8 different things in 3 different slots etc

3) There has been a lot of discussions about how to make /rescue a more effective command. Some would like to see it de-aggro the creature. Hmmm How about a chance to de-agro and/or gives a "Aheasive mesh" type of state so the creatures are stuck for a bit and both Ranger and rescued player can get away.

4) There have been several ideas pertaining to the proposed Ranger weapon. In the end, I think several of us agreed: Owen-Lars' ideas have come the closest to balancing the several ideas we have been proposing. Funny you ask that, I have the if you cant beat them, join them attitude. With the CB shelved for a while I have dropped Pistoleer and Medic and am close to Master Ranger/TKM CH 0300, so I have a new perspective on the whole melee thing. My personal thoughts now would be a ranged type of rifle/bow/whatever. This would come in real handy with critters who warp when low HAM is reached, I currently switch to a republic blasterm but would rather have a longer range weapon. And could also he used to "pull" a single critter out, this weapon should do a state or bleed like advanced republic's or some loot CDEF's This weapon could get even better with the addition of Rilfe skills (to enhance the Rilfe/Ranger) add distance to the Pistoleer/Carbineer portfolio and give the Melee/Ranger a half decent ranged weapon to use.

Neet idea, I could go for that

Okay, please let me know what you think so I can get to work on the Outdoorsman update.

Quick idea for number 3. We need it to De aggro the creature and as most of the creatures in game seem to hunt by sight and sound just have rescue create a flash while we throw some kind of scent bomb up its nose.

Thank you for posting and I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing the Outdoorsman developed even more.

I totally agree with previous posters on /rescue - I'd like to see it "peace" a creature. Whether that be permanent or temporary is open to debate. Permanent may be exploitable by attacking>/rescue, rinse and repeat.... so possibly once per creature?

As for the Ranger weapon, perhaps instead of it being a weapon, it could be a powerup made by the Ranger from /foraged materials? So a certain foragable material could give the ranger a short life DoT to a weapon, or a short term increase in wounds, by applying it to the weapon?

Anyhow, look forward to seeing this debate go on.

Ooh, forgot to mention, ranger should be able to use a mount and a droid at the same time. We are more likely to use mounts than other classes ... why should that prevent us from using a droid for harvesting/trapping?
