it's been proposed before, the problem is most people think that if any prof got player traps, it should be BH. However with recent changes to BH, I'm starting to think why the heck not.

I think the Devs have said no to this. My comments towards them were not printable.
BHs totally hosed themselves as to trapping - they would have probably gotten to use traps against NPCs and maybe Players. But noooooooooooooo.... they whined out of having to master scout - ergo no traps for them.
Anyhow, Rangers are creature hunters. You want to be any good in PvP (which I quit doing and don't miss) find a PvP oriented profession, like swordsman/fencer/TK...and stack it with a ranged profession and kill the other side til the cows come home.

I agree that Ranger is geared toward PvE but every profession in this game should have some role in the GCW. Whether its just healing battle fatigue or fighting on the front lines. I agree that Bounty Hunters no longer can claim the right for human traps. I personally wouldn't be surprised if they were given them anyway. I don't PvP and don't plan to in the future. If we get player traps then that will be great for those of us that do PvP. I personally think there are better ways that Ranger can be used in the GCW though.

Sorry JB this is unacceptable. Rangers are Masters of the Wilderness and creature hunting shouldonly be a SMALL facet of that. To have a profession that is geared to only a facet of PVE (its a misnomer to say we are PVE centric when we can't be of any assistance as rangers in high end content such as the Corvette or DWB) is ridiculous and a waste. Especially considering that we spend 140 SP.
I'm beginning to think an overt Imp BH 1337 d00dwitha pet rasp, blasted youas aTEFed noob in the wilderness of Talus, and you haveyet to recoverfrom the "pwnage."

Actually the only times I have been killed in PvP - twas never ever by a BH, to the best of my recollection. Snipers got me, TKs, a CM or two, but never ever a BH.
I totally humilated a BH in front of his buddies by kiting his fat lard butt and bleeding him, as well as messing up his fancy lil armor suit. When he finally did chase me, ooops, the bleeds had him pretty weak... twas me pwning him.
Rasps on the other hand.... shudder.... did pwn me as a n00b. A good a reason as any to hate em.
Back to the subject tho - PvP.
Rangers are not useless in the vette and DWB... altho being a Ranger will get you real dead real quick... it's your combat profession that may or may not help. I agree we should be able to trap pets and NPCs and for that matter, players. It's the Devs who said "No", not me. As to PvP - gotta pick your spots and know your limitations. I have been known to pitch a HTFB as a forward base, allowing for deployement of pets, and quick stashing and calling of vehicles. I sit quietly, not overt, nor TEF'd... and let the medics do their thing. If worse comes to worst, I pitch in fighting - more as a Pistoleer than anything else. Also, who is that odd dude in camo who recons in front of the main force??
Anyhew - I would love to see us use traps on pets -heh heh heh, bye bye Rancor - and on NPCs, at the very least. I would also support using them on Players. But that's not the hill I want to die on defending. There are other battles I think we can win easier.

I was thinking the other day in fact that rangersshould be able to traps against any target, not just creatures.
Here's several reasons:
1) Traps are used to inflict state effects. I see no reason the methods we use on creature shouldn't work on a humanoid. Look at it this way, all traps can be classified intothree catagories: nets, doping agents and sensory overloads. There's not justafiable reason why these things can't effect humanoids.
2) While a ranger wanders the wild, creatures *are not* the only life forms he/she will encounter. He/she will encounter all sorts of loosers, hoodlums and serial killers (Black Sun asassins knocking me off my swoop while on yavin spring to mind).
3) It is not fair to class ranger a non-combat profession. The very nature of what we were meant to do is by no means peaceful. Unless you'rea pacifist vegetarian ranger, we lead a pretty bloody and violent life.
4) Tracking IV is actually called "Man Hunting". This in itself implies the width of our scope.
To impliment this there's two ways. Firstly and most conventient to code, is to make all existing traps work unilateraly on all enemy targets. Secondly is to give rangers specific humanoid traps, this would serve to limit the PvP/NPC offence ability to rangers and thus keep scouts (and hence budding BH's) out of the action. I prefare the first idea, simplicity is the key.

I'm at the point where I think BH should go ahead and get grenade-style or blowdart-style status effecting traps, but Rangers should get minefield-style placable traps. Bounty Hunters would use man-made devices to "trap' thier prey and Ranger would use nature.
Modern Bounty Hunters and Police use smokebombs, teargas, and stunguns.
Modern Army Rangers and Survivalist use tripwires, pit traps and bear traps.
Both methods work just as well on Humans as they do on creatures...
We're not talking about mega-damage traps here. Just status effecting.

Now my thinking is this would make scout/rangers somewhat more usefull in PvP. Some of it depends on how good the wire mesh type traps are, which I believe lower ranged/melee defense? If these are reasonably powerfull this could make someone with scout/ranger a counter to defense stackers (somewhat). Can't hit em? Throw in a wire mesh. Or that's the plan. Like I said, not really sure how much defense this would actually drop off them, but it's gotta help a bit. If not the other traps are usefull non the less. Blind, stun (think there's a stun?), that dart (that I can't spell) that makes them more vulnerable to state effects, the other dart (which I also can't spell!) to slow em down (counter to force run?), and moving onto ranger traps; area versions (bit vague what we actually get), including an area dizzy which could be a battle turner I think.
Anyway just a thought. You can stack defenses, but can't stack accuracy, think allowing scout/ranger to be a counter might make PvP a bit more interesting.

I disgree with the BH getting traps.
They had to master scout, scouts use traps, they should be able to use traps.
But wait.. they whined, no more scout trapping mastery... sorry fellas, no traps. Maybe a better assortment of weapons, but the Maker only knows they have every KMart special now. They are overpowered now, if they had the brains to use what they had in an effective manner.
A BH is no more than a master marksman with neat weapons and a small idea of what scouting is.
No traps for them - they got more SP, they should lose the right to traps - Unless they want to master scout again.

I always thought it was odd that they removed the trapping line for BH requirements. I forget what lines they need to learn now, but I figured it would have made more sense for BH to requre trapping and wayfaring. It just seems to me that a BH without gadgets is not a BH. I always think of the scene in Jedi when Boba Fett entangles luke with that wire when I think of PvP traps. But then BH in this game isn't realy much like anything in the movies anyways so I have stopped caring about those things.
