Thread: Traps: Make them usable vs players.

I disgree with the BH getting traps.
They had to master scout, scouts use traps, they should be able to use traps.
But wait.. they whined, no more scout trapping mastery... sorry fellas, no traps. Maybe a better assortment of weapons, but the Maker only knows they have every KMart special now. They are overpowered now, if they had the brains to use what they had in an effective manner.

Sorry man, they are far from overpowered. BH suck @$$ when it comes to PVP. A double master combat template is far better than BH anyday and they cost around the same points (depending if both combats are from the same novice profession). I just ran circles around a BH the other day even thoughhehad better buffs, armor etc. than me (I was playing my TKM/Fencer who has awful weapons, armor etc. because I don't have the desire to get millions of dollars with that character). The point is that with BH the SP doesn't give u the same amount of defense as a"stacked" (i.e. doublecombat mastered) template. Even though you don't want to admit it, BHs need love too. The best BHs are dabblers, so that tells us that the profession itself is borked.

Correct me if I'm wrong but NPC's in PvE throw traps at you, yet we can't throw them back???
Doesn't seem fair to me.
I'd assumed they were actually grenades but they have the same animation.
The only thing that should be able to knock down an at-st or at-at is a tensile wire trap in my opinion. Or some really big logs rolling down a hill.

I definately think we should get traps vs. pets. I also think that traps that effect electronic equipment (droids, turrets)
(at-sts, at-ats) would be a great addition.
I don't see a big deal with making our traps useful against players. They would enable us to apply status effects, but we can get those same effects if we take up an elite profession and be able to apply them faster and do damage at the same time. The only traps I see as causing major waves in PvP are the adhesive mesh and the P. Darts when used against kiters. That would be a nice bonus for our poor abused melee Rangers I think. The others I don't think would matter too much. I mean compare throwing a trap that reduces melee or ranged defense by some unspecified amount to hitting someone with an 800 tic mind poison pike. So I would keep pushing this idea as a hey, why not? kind of thing. It won't give us a huge advantage but it is something fun and interesting for us to do in PvP besides die. Well not you JB, but me definitely.

Why should they be able to down a Krayt Dragon when a Master Ranger can't?!
That's the problem that we're trying to solve. Make it so a Master Ranger CAN take down a Kraytusing good tactics. That's whatI think is the larger problem. There are several enhancements I'd like to see for Ranger, and most of them revolve around getting us better at hunting. As for darts not working on humans, I can think of a few: Armor: Armor will block all pdarts, bone spurs, etc. The argument could also be made that a stink bomb would be less likely to effect humans, who have a weaker sense of smell. Also, the flashbang wouldn't be as effective if the person is wearing a helmet since it blocks out the noise. a human is smart enough to get out from under a net. Thus, we're basically down to the adhesive mesh as the only trap that would be able to affect humans.
Looki, I'm not saying that there's no reason to give it to us, I'm just saying that if we get many of the changes that have been proposed, I won't miss PvP traps. In the end, I view them as a "oh that's nice" feature to add to the game, but there's just as much justification against anyone having them as there is for anyone having them. I'm just saying that this idea is OLD and I'd rather start focusing on newer, fresher ideas. This can be added as a "oh yeah, we'd like this now since BH's can't justify having them anymore." but I don't want this to be the focus of our proffession. We have been, and should continue to be, a creature proffession. That we are not the best hunters now is not a justification for going more towards PvP. We SHOULD be the best hunters, and any effort to go PvP will take away from that. That doesn't mean that we can't have PvP skills. You said something along the lines of "you can't say no to PvP traps because we're supposed to be hunters, because we arent' the best hunters". But that is exaclty WHY I can argue against PvP traps. I'd rather be a legendary hunter than the guy who can apply dizzy with a trap, only to be dizzy+kd'd by the guy I trapped.

Bounty Hunter's Traps work on players and npcs?! I was unaware...
Thats right, there are no traps that work on humanoids, so why shouldn't we get them?! So what if we were "intended" to be the best vs. creatures? We all know that that IS NOT the case now, so who/why/what would it hurt if we, Rangers, were able to place ground traps that could cause status effects vs. Humanoids as well as Creatures? We're not asking for DoT or Bleed traps here... Just stat effects, like Dizzy, Stun, Blind, etc.
Placing traps and lureing people/creatures into them is not tactical? It is certainly an original tactic in this game, unless you count minefields, which are about as woefully underused as our /Rescue and Tranger traps and then ONLY used in factioned warfare.
I just don't understand how people can argue that our traps can blind/stun/dizzy or otherwise hinder a 4 ton 40ft. Rancor, but they should be totally transparent and ineffective vs. a 200lb. 6ft. Human... Make Combat Medics' Poison and Diseases only effect Humanoids then! Why should they be able to down a Krayt Dragon when a Master Ranger can't?!
I totally agree.

And I agree. A nice to have but not, as JB put so eloquently, a hill to die defending.
