Hello fellow rangers,

I was just wondering if anyone is using the ability to track people/NPC's ... I use tracking all the time, but never used it to find any NPC.

Any of you ?

MMORPGs are about immerson, not conquest. FPSs are about conquest, not immersion.
Powergamers want a FPS, but want an audience to admire them while they do it. That is why they flock to MMORPGs. l00k 4tz me, im d4 l33tz dud3z.

I use it all the time. You just need to track "People". You get the ability at tracking II for NPC's

Yup. Looking for some no risk looting, bash a few cannibals. Got nasty faction, head aaway from those Jabba/Vals. Alt, fancy a bit of thug bashing, head FOR those Jabba/Vals.

As for tracking people. Good for confusing players when RP'ing. "Good hunting tonight? Just watched you coming down the valley, blah blah..." Or maybe I'm just a closet stalker, lol.

when I don't feel like tabbing out to stratics or warcry to check the LOC of a trainer, I'll pop a track in a city.

since player city trainers aren't listed on galaxy-wide lists, I've used it there, too. in fact:

someone was asking me if there was a (blank) trainer in the player city I live in... as I was right in the cantina, I stepped outside and used my /areatrack. as I scrolled down the list, I saw NPCname McSomething (a blank trainer) 4 meters to the west.

I killed the tracking screen, turned to my right, and hung my head in shame. 95 skill points to find a trainer standing right next to me.

I guess that's why I don't favor cities, and seek the deep wilds.

Well, I don't have the ability yet. But I'm GRINDING like mad to get it. The reason being is that I'm in an RP/PvP guild (notice which is listed first) and we have had some RPed issues with some other characters. Its all InCharacter, nothing personal.

So now we need to locate the poor toon that has offended us. I, personally, am not a big enjoyer of PvP. But for the people who like it: its cool. So, I act as a support role for my guild. In this case, I'll be our tracker. It's gonna be fun to do the tracking and watch our boys do the beating.

I use it every time I enter a city I haven't been to before-- handy to know what trainers are available without having to manually seek them out. Especially handy if lag is a factor.

ROFLMAO

Just tonight I stepped of the shuttle in Mos SuchAndSuch to be hailed by a Pet Food Vendor. Well, he WAS screaming HEY HEY HEY at me... FIguring that he was just MAYBE trying to get my attention and didn't know that we stand around like zombies for a few seconds after teh shuttle barfs us onto the pavement, I asked what his problem was.

"Dewd cld u trk a npc 4 me?". You can understand, I was warming to him already. Making a wild stab in the dark I guessed he'd just asked me to track something. I asked what he needed found.

"A NPC!!" Okay, I've found the chairman of the local village idiot committee. I should show him some respect. Carefully, typing in words of one syllable or less, I prised out of him the fact that he was looking for a particular NPC for a mission and his name was, oh I forget, but we'll say "Froderick Womblfluff"

Could I track him. Hmmm... tough one. I could do an /ar but that'd mean scrolling through the npc herds that spawn for deliver missions in big towns, so I did a quick "/target froderick" and there he was, 120m away. Stood standing on a corner looking lost and unloved. I pointed, "there he is, over there". Off skipped the chairman, happy as a kid full of sugar, saying "Dewd, yooz ranjas kick a$$!!!".

Because I am, despite sounding like a grumpy old fart, a nice bloke at ehart, I sent him a tell later explaining the trick and also how to use /find, suggesting he turn NPC names ON and a couple of other wee tippets.

I'm very scared though. He now wants to become a kicka$$ ranja dewd.

/sigh

Just the other day, i had to track down my buddies on Dath (it is more fun that asking for a WP). I also use areatrack to find trainers and quest NPCs (Warren, anyone?). I mostly use it for for tracking creatures (we ARE creature hunters after all ), but it certainly comes in handy for finding humanoids .
