I disagree. Rangers, more than probably any other elite profession, are made up of players who aren't min/maxxing their characters. Most Master Rangers you talk to, especially those who were into rangering before we actually got some abilities that scouts don't have, will tell you they are rangers, and especially Master Rangers, because they wanted to be rangers. They like the character concept, the legend, the mystique. They, and I, could not care less if the devs gave a unique ability at Master Ranger level. If they do someday, great, I won't cry. But I have a feeling most true and honest Master Rangers will still be there regardless and not getting an ability at Master level is definitely NOT the start of the demise of this profession. That's just laughable.

Agree.

As I stated in another post, I told my brother I needed only a few k more scout xp and that was it. He said "So what does that get you? A title?" I said... uh... yep, that's it. Nothing more.

They are still a long way away from differentiating between Master Scout and Ranger in my opinion. To sum up, Rangers get big worthless tents and can crawl faster. That is it. *sigh* Now I'm depressed.

- Agreed, and this is has been a rather prominent issue in many threads.

- Several suggestions (from the State list):

  • Advanced cabin available only the Master Ranger

  • Ability to harvest multiple resources off a single corpse at Master Ranger

  • Harvester Traps available to Master Rangers

- The problem arises because the Profession was not fully flushed out to begin with, so the Master skill is comparatively lacking.

- Let thesuggestions begin flowing.

Umm, I have to really disagree with you Tsion.

I love being a Ranger and it will take alot for me to give up my Master status, but I am not playing just so I can have an impressive title and some measure of vagabond "mystique".

Sadly, lack of contentis the begining of the Ranger demise. Many peopleare giving up Ranger in order to take a more rewarding profession that has more content.

i chose SWG because i heard the planets were huge and you could run around for hours. then i saw there was a ranger class, which would benefit me running around for hours. and it does, i can hide myself, setup a camp when i need a break or need to wait for someone to come join me, i can find any creature i feel like killing or know that has the resources i need for some more camo kits...

in other words, i'm a ranger as a profession because my style of play is that of a ranger. and as they add things the ranger class will improve, as will all other classes, but both of my professions, creature handler and ranger, have no special uber ability at master, but they do have the accomplishment of being master. i have 0 skill points, and it's great. i'm a master of 3 professions, and i play the game now in order to completely understand those professions and know all aspects of my abilities.

i don't play to kill everything or impress my friends by hitting something by 10k. i play for me, i solo and group all the time, and i have learned how my abilities can help groups out.

choose a profession because you like the abilities of that profession. if all YOU like is tracking, then just get tracking. but there are a lot of rangers who chose ranger because they enjoy ranger-like activities in the game. those of us like that will keep master ranger because it fits our overall mood in the game. the ranger community is one that plays only for the enjoyment of playing.

I like my HTFB. Too bad it's too expensive to build right now so I build the basic one when I need healing.

I like the tracking. I like the bonuses to hit and harvesting (nice at master level, even nerfed. Dunno why bunnies yield 15 and buig elephant-like critters give 17)

Are there bugs? sure, but not all that bad. I had to stop using conceal but I think they will fix that.

Have to say overall I think it is worth it (that would be a disagree). I'm not giving up my Ranger boxes.

Planet Specific Hunting Cabins would go along way to make Master Ranger a more prestigious skill box.

An "uber" trap might be nice as well, but I would rather see Fishing Traps at Advanced Trapping II and Harvester Traps at Advanced Trapping IV.

I would like to see our Wayfaring Terrain Negotiation revamped so that Scouts get 50% Slope Movement and Crawl Speed, while Rangers get the other 50% Slope Movement and Crawl Speed.

I would like to actually see a difference in my ability to hit creatures vs humanoids.

I would like to see a significant increase in my harvest yeild over a Scout.

All of those above items would go along way towards making Ranger the elite profession it's suppose to be.

This is sort of a universial problem with most of the non-crafting elite professions. Aside from bragging rights, getting Master realy is anti-climatic. Right now the only perks of Master Rangers are:

  • Dathomir Camo Kit : As long as you don't die while trying to make one or increase aggro for using one. But that is an open issue with /conceal

  • +10 Range and Melee Defense: Oddly enought, it is significant. After I got Master Ranger I noticed more misses from mobs. So it would mean a few extra seconds.

But neither of these realy say "I am a Master Ranger!"

oops, left a few things out...

Hunting cabin would be nice, however. Being able to harvest the rest of the critter (not just one thing) would also be nice. Being able to set up a trap machine to harvest too would be nice. Winning a million cred. in the Emperor's Lotto would be nice....

It is awkward I know, however I found if you look at a profession that complements your skills (like Rifleman for rangers) it isn't that bad, I have not tested this yet, but I suspect once I get sneak, I can actually crawl faster under cover and an advantage. (I can already crawl pretty good, even without my SL's speed increase) Crawling under cover should be a good thing. But since Cover is borked atm, it is kinda pointless. Sneaking up to your target fast and using conceal shot (if and when it works). amongst other things.

Carboneers are a good choice as well. Because the max range for traps is 50m (yes 50) which is in line with most Carbines optimal range. So it is how you choose to play your ranger that makes the difference.
