Thread: Master Ranger needs a Crowning Jewel

Most Master Rangers you talk to... will tell you they are rangers, and especially Master Rangers, because they wanted to be rangers.

With complete disregard for abilities and professional skills? They became rangers because they wanted to be rangers. Now, that's laughable.

Since you think it'd be great if they someday do confer some worthwhile ability on the Master title, please don't hold backthe rest of us that aren't content to spend 64 skill points simply so they can have the words 'Master Ranger' floating above their heads. I know it's shallow and somewhat disrespectful of the legend, but I'm funny like that.

but there are a lot of rangers who chose ranger because they enjoy ranger-like activities in the game.

Count me among them. "Let's see, I like to travel around and hunt big game. Hey, looks like I'm gonna be a ranger for the 53rd RPG in a row!"

But"ranger" is in the doing, not in the title floating over yer head. I recently surrendered all of my rifle skills because I needed the points for upper level ranger boxes. Now I'm less ranger than ever.

So you say "Just give me a crown jewel at Master and I'll be happy?"

I say "No you won't."

Look at the Pistolleers. Here's a class that's waaaaayyyy more populated than Ranger and you read posts like this from their forum: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Development&message.id=552785#M552785

If you don't want to follow the link here's the text :

Pistoleer is in dire need of fixing, especially master pistoleer. We need a GOOD skill at the master level, devs.

So here's a profession with TWO abilities granted at Master level and STILL there are posts asking for more.

Where does it stop?

Let me see if I get this straight:

Since some Pistoleers are unhappy with the abilities granted at Master Pistoleer, there should be no improvements to the Master Ranger skillset, even if many people are abandoning the profession because there's not enough reason to stay.

I'm thinking that game design considerations should be decided on a case by casebasis, predicated on the merits of each. When Master Ranger grants two special abilities (and yet anotherunnecessary camo kit doesn't count as one), I think we'll be in agreement. But we've got two special abilities to go before we're there.

I might be a little off base on this... but what about adding abilities where Rangers are able to *use* higher level pets?

Everyone in the game can use a CR15 pet (cowardly gurreck, for example). Let's face it... Rangers are people of the wild. They tend to understand creatures better than most, hence the reason they can trap and skin them better than a simple scout. Maybe this *understanding* they have can play a part in the type of pets they keep? Would not having a CR25 pet at Master Ranger be a crowning jewel? Since a Master Creature Handler can go up to a CR50 pet (highest I've seen yet), I don't think it takes anything away from that class either. Could this be a solution?

I too would like to see something special for Master Ranger. Of course I like the idea of multiple harvests, or even unique harvests would be great.

And again, I don't harvest machines or traps of any kind at any level. I truely believe that our harvests must remain done by hand to keep the value and uniqueness of what we do. But that's just me and I'm too happy right now to argue because we're getting out harvests back. hehe

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

Some time ago (before the lates, big ranger patch), Mineras relayed to the community some ideas the Dev were floating around about different camp types, possibly even a customizable camp. I hope that these ideas are still floating around (or being actively worked on).

Istill like the idea of a camp with a 1-use shuttle to evacuate a group. That is definitely a master-ranger item.

BTW, I love the new harvest rules in a group. I cannot find the words to describe how much BETTER my play experience is with a group. And conceal, I still get a kick out of using it. Tracking is something that I don't use very much, but I'm darned glad to see it in place. These new features and fixes really add alot to the game.

I am Master Ranger and so far love the profession but it lacking..

1. Traps that work on players and player pets and more styles of traps that do alot of damage. I would love to root or snare a player in pvp so he/she dont run around like a chicken without a head in a city trying to avoid my pets wraith.

2. Camo Kit ingredients shouldnt be planet specific. This is the future for gods sake we are not rubbing berries and putting plants in our clothing. Should be on same idea as a phase camo kit to phase our image to blend in the enviroment.. Like on Predator.

3. Specific Hunting weapon without spending additional points in other elite combat classes but should have to at least do one of the specific weapon skill trees in brawler or marksman profession to get hunting weapon certs.

I am sure ideas like this has been posted before but I will agree Ranger needs alot more work. I am gonna stick with it to see how everything turns out.. I also believe our elite elite profession might be pilot or space explorer finding new worlds. I sure love to dream hehe.

Well happy Hunting
