Thread: Unabled to advanced up the ranger tree due to skill point requirement
hehe im confussed
Ill say you tailor your template how you want but within the limits of the system.
you have a set amount of skill points to fit your template into, its up to you to choose the combo that:
A: Fits the system limits
B: You like and will enjoy
Skill points are there for a reason, the main one being to make character unique and also give each player distinct advantages and disadvantages in certain areas.
oh and you CANNOT get more than 250 skill points

Yes am quite aware that you cannot have more than 250 points. However I only have currently 1/250 points left. And there is no way I can see that will get more skill points.Today was chatting with a former player who quit SWG. He told me "only way to get ahead in SWG and get skill points is to use bug exploits".
Am not a powergamer nor a online cheater, but it seems that with current system in place that it gives the impression that one must use bug exploits to get ahead.
Im not sure about what you mean by "getting ahead" are you talking about being rich? or being an uber dude?
Do you want to solo the queen of nightsisters? At what point does "getting ahead" intersect with "having fun" in a computer game?
Sorry like i said i was confussed as to the purpose of your inquirey on our boards.
I know its hard to surrender one thing for another but it has to be done, its all about balancing how you want to play and what you want to do. I dont think it would be fair to allow players to master ALL the professions they want at one time. It would play too much into the hands of the powergamers who have far too much time on their hands if you ask me ![]()
And as for cheating and exploiting im glad you have stayed this side of the line. You can still have lots of fun and create a great character without resorting to cheating etc and tbh i think that ex player was overstating the type of exploits that can be done in this game. As far as im aware player cannot even through exploit gain extra skills etc.
If you try to make a character to be better than everyone else you will be forever grinding and working on it, because there will be allways somefrail 34 year old man living in his parentsbasement that thinks the same.
Have fun creating a unique character rather than a character that wants to OWN everyone or be the latest uber template.

Am currently working on Novice Carbineer 2-2-2-2, Novice CH 2-1-1-1, Novice Medic 3-3-3-3 and Novice Ranger 1-1-1-0. Already have Master Marksman and Master Scout.
I had to drop Novice Pistoleer 2-2-2-2 and Novice Rifleman 1-1-1-1 in order to get Novice Ranger, Novice Medic and Novice CH.
Now tell me how in heck am I suppose to get extra skill points?
What is the point of paying for a game if one cannot advance due to not having enough skill points or are the devs do this on purpose making the grind extremely hard and near impossible to get anything done?
33 skill points more to finish ranger, give me a break. How in the heck can a player get those skill points?
It sounds like you just don't have a goal for what you want out of your character. Since you already know you have a max of 250 skill points, you need to decide what professions are the most fun and interesting to you. Pick a weapon/combat type that you enjoy, then add to that.
If you are into PVP, you might not want to tie up skill points with CH. If you really enjoy the pets and are more into PVE, then CH is good.
Here is a link to a character builder where you can fiddle around and see what combinations you can get with the 250 skill points available:

You can come up with very powerful combat templates, very useful support templates and very lucrative crafting templates.... but you can't do them all at the same time on one character.

My character goal is to be a Master Ranger, Master Creature Handler, Master Combat Medic and Master Carbineer. Is that too much to ask? Am not interested in being a JEDI. But if there is no way to gain skill points when other player master rangers have dropped their proffession due to the hologrind route then what use is there in playing this game. And if I have to resort to using bug exploits then I might as well cancel my account.
The grind and fustration is becoming stressful. I have enough stress in real life. I like to be abled to have fun in this game but apparenty the devs have made this game a GRINDING HELL.
after reading my post i thought i was a little rough....
While I agree with you that the hologrind is ruining the game, I think that your ideal template, while really cool
you would have to
Master Scout
Master Medic
Marksman Carbine line, Ranged Support line
Master Ranger
Master Carbineer
Master Combat Medic
Master CH
This would literally make you unstoppable in PvE and PvP. I havent done the math, but thats a lot of skill points. One of the things I do like about this game is the interdependency. I have friends who are all of these professions and we go hunting. I like hunting in groups better than hunting solo. I understand your frustration, but this template would be roughly equal to
Master Medic
Master Brawler
Master Marksman
Master Rifleman
Master Pistoleer
Master Swordsman
Master Fencer
This template would be hugely overpowered and the owner of this template would cut through rancors like they were chubas.
The game is designed for a balance of strengths and weaknesses. Being a Master Ranger, I am very familiar with weaknesses
