Thread: ranger/rifleman question
Well, while playing around with the character builder Allakhazam's web site I think I came up with a character build that can be unique and interesting. I thought of this after trying the brawling skill for the first time and liking it.
Scout - Master
Ranger - Frontiering 4, Wayfaring 3
Marksman - Rifle Specialist, Ranged Support 3
Rifleman - Master
Brawler - Two-Hand Sword Specialization
Swordsman - Intermediate Sword Technique
The two ranger skills give me a high rank in the only two trees I'm particularly interested in. Master Rifleman make me ok with a rifle (heh). Then the one skill in the Swordsman tree gives me Two-Hand Head Hit Two and will give me a certification for the best Two-Handed weapon they can make.
This should cover everything I wanted to do with my character and it should make me ok in combat, especially if someone I've already head shot once or twice charges me.

I am currently working twords a Ranger/Rifleman type character. I personally have found the easiest way to deal with the melee range issue that comes up when you use a rifle is to kill the **edit** thing before it gets into melee range. Look to you traps to allow you to do this for the animals.
As for the stuff that traps don't work on, I use a spray stick and run up hill a lot.

Hi,
I've been debating on what I eventually wanted my character to become. I've been generically working to master scout/master marksman figuring by the time I figured out what I want, I'd be pretty close to just about everything combat wise. I thougth about bounty hunter, but a crowded profession really doesn't appeal to me. After hitting master scout, I've come to like the idea of a Master Ranger/Master Marksman. Sort of a wilderness hunter type.
After using rifles, I'm sort of worried about how to handle our problem with short range combat. I like the 2 handed weapon idea, but that will cause me to get rid of some skills in other areas. Either I can not go all the way to master marksman, or I can give back the skills on the Ranged Weapons Support (probably a very bad idea), some combination of the two, or try to get by with a souped up CDEF to use as a finisher. Any advice for me? Thanks!
If it matters at all, I'm not looking to be the end all be all of PvP or PvE combat, just looking for ideas on how to cover a weakness.

2. rifle concealment chance
2. rifle concealment chance
To be honest, conceal shot is a pretty ineffective hunting maneuver. It does keep you fairly safe, as long as the creature is over 54 meters away or so. However, it's painfully slow and weak. You're better off bringing a tank of some sort, or going TKA if you're looking for quick kills and harvests with safety.

ok so i'm creating my woodsman hunter wookiee guy. my question is this:
I'm prone and firing away at a rancor or something--what is coming into play to prevent him from detecting me?
1. camoflauge skill mod
2. rifle concealment chance
3. both?
Thanks i hope you can help
Rifle concealment keeps creatures from aggro'ing on you because of your attack.
Camouflage keeps creatures who are naturally aggressive (red blips) from aggro'ing on you just because they're mean.
The camouflage will help you get into striking range (not usually a problem) of the target without getting aggro'd, but once you start attacking it becomes irrelevant - this is when your rifle concealment starts protecting you from their wrath. The camouflage will stay, however, and will help protect you from other aggro critters that happen to wander by.
The two don't blend, but they can help protect you from different kinds of threats at the same time.

I'm not sure about the two stats you mentioned.. but for every 10 points of Cover you have, you get an extra free shot in on the mob without them noticing, if you're prone and at long range. At master rifleman you have 80 Cover which means if you can take out a mob in 8 or less shots while prone at range, they'll never aggro. I don't believe this ability applies if you miss or use autofire though..
No this is mistaken information.
Rifle concealment chance gives you a chance to just p-ull one mob from the group, instead of them all baffing.
Cover adds to the /takecover command which all it does is add to your ranged defense.
The only way to keep something from noticing you is with concealshot. Going prone with /maskscent will get you 3-4 shots before something notices you, but it will not keep them from ever noticing you. Concealshot is the only way to keep something from noticing you, and that is only if you use concealshot only and you don't miss or get the occassional bleed.
you get three to four shots while prone
now there is a bug because of speed where you will seem to get more shots than this, but this is a bug that has something to do with the speed you are shooting at and recognition by mobs, usually it only happens at master level, never noticed it before that
ok i guess thats kinda what i figured.
would anyone else support the camouflage skill mod giving a bonus to concealing your attack instead of just preventing aggro?
I suppose this would be a bit unbalancing--but it's not like the rangers' cup runneth over when it comes to perks.
