Thread: Retiring Master Ranger
There are a lot of issues with Ranger still, I am hoping they will be resolved, but I think it's about time I start sacrificing some boxes for other skills. However, let me mention some balancing issues.
1. CH novice takes 2 Scout trees, Ranger novice takes Master Scout. I always got the impression that Rangers should be able to handle creatures pretty well, so why is a cheaper (skill-wise) profession that relies on creatures so much stronger than Rangers? This issue goes beyond simply allowing traps to work on pets. Rangers should be more capable than Creature Handlers.
If you want to deal with playercreatures, go Commando or BH using LLC.
2. Rangers should be a good solo profession. Please keep in mind that many people choose this profession for that reason. I have no specific suggestions for the Devs, but simply to keep this in mind when implementing things.
I will keep my Master Ranger skills for a bit longer, hopefully until traps, hunting camps and /track are installed, but I'm beginning to doubt it.

(I really had hoped that Ranger skills would augment the BH profession, but sadly, they don't.)
I have no idea why I haven't dropped it yet. I could sure use the skillpoints.
Traps are useless. Tracking is nice but not worth so many points. Faster crawling while prone is obviously worth 13 points.
Camo kits are not worth the hassle.
Only thing I love is my camps. Camo would be awesome if it wasn't for the crazy requirements and the tiny bonus you get instead of Mask Scent.
Still I won't drop it thoughcause I still have somehope of the future. I do know that if I don't see some changes soon I'll probably get CH and play Pet War Galaxies instead.

- Well if you do depart, I hope we can entice you back at some point in the future. ![]()
- It's just as simple to drop those other professions and return to the green Ranger pastures once you feel it is worthy of your skill points. ![]()
- Good hunting.
Ok Now as far as Tracking I kinda like it its very useful and helpful I have tracking 2 almost 3 . Ok maybe the layout is abit Crude and that can be overhauled... But Hey I find what I want about 85% of the time using Tracking.
My Idea of tracking would be a graphical like the Ctrl-M map and then the locations of animals and people on that and as you go up more additions that would almost be perfect.
Oh well those are my thoughts anyway..
I have also started surrendering Ranger skills. As for the traps, the only ones that work for me are the snare and root ones and those are Scout traps. The camo kits are i agree too much of a hassle for what they do. Maybe come the day that corpse recovery is reinstituted they will be sought after but now they seem more like a parlor trick. The tracking is too inefficient to bother with .. vendors ,corpses of creatures ,all sorts of junk show up on the tracking window. If i was an indian scouting for some hunters i'd expect to be fired if i lead the group to dead animals. The only thing i like is the Big Hi-tech camp.. always a good conversation piece. Making the move to CH/Pistoleer with some basic healing skill ... Seems to work good for me.

CH 3-3-1-3
Pistoleer 0-4-4-3
Ranger 0-4-0-0
I feel your pain. I have been thinking of giving up Ranger altogether with all the changes that were implemented.
- I don't harvest more than novice scouts it seems,
- traps are uselss (the only one I use, wire mesh, is what I started the game with - adhesive mesh while nice is uselss for meleers),
- wayfaring is nice and I think the description is wrong as I can outrun novice rangers on broken terrain,
- tracking nice and will probably get better.
- I'd miss the camps mainly due to the time in utter boredom in getting it. As a Teras Kasi Master I won't need the healing anymore (2443 and closing).
- What I'd miss most of all is all the information in /examine. Examining a Giant Krayt Dragon and seeing CL 300, base damage of 3k per hit, and special attacks including "Force Strike" was quite nice. Until he ate me, that is. Not being able to track him for my group would also be sad, but as it is anyone with Tracking I can find him just as easily as I could so no loss there.
I'd like to give the devs a little time to fix their errors, but I'm not going to wait a month like they waited the last time they broke something in our profession.
P.S. I disagree about the Rangers being a solo profession. I think we are romanticizing this profession too much. We might like to have ragners that could solo, but without another appropriate skill (eg, CH) I don't see how as Ranger is a support profession rather than a combat profession.
Yeah, I'm thinking of letting go of my Master's title. I was in game today with another Master Ranger who is letting go of her title as well.
Total redundant being a Master Ranger, when you have Master Scout. I only use scout traps. Scout Camps are good enough if you're not in need of camping experience. The only kick I've gotten out of being a Master Ranger is popping up a High Tech camp and listen to all the newbies go nuts over it.
Anyway, I love Rangers in theory, I always have. It's what I gravitate toward in every game that has them.
So sad.
"I was in game today with another Master Ranger who is letting go of her title as well."
- Ah yes, but that is the fundamental philosophy behind the game's skill system.
- You can change your character on the fly (without a complete reroll), to match the ongoing changes common inan Online Game. ![]()
- If changes have soured your taste of one profession, you can always surrender it and work on a different one.
- It's an evolution, attempting to find the perfect niche for your play style and temperament.
- Gotta love the flexibility. ![]()
True about the ability to change "on the fly". But we are doing it out of neccesity, not desire. Big difference.
Most choose Ranger because of the "style of play" that should go with it...IE: Self sufficient, master tracker woodsman. Who can blend into his enviroment like no other........can waylay animals and humans alike with his ability to craft traps from resources, "HE" gathered...etc, etc, etc.......
So, when I have to relinquish this title because it's broke, I don't feel all warm inside because I can do it.
I spent alot of hours getting here hoping beyone hope that the developers would start getting on the ball.
They haven't and they wont. They meet the status-quo and thats it. They have somany things they are trying to aim at, they are hitting nothing.
"But we are doing it out of neccesity, not desire. Big difference"
- Well I'm not going to argue your personal decisions for changing professions. That is your choice, and your choice alone.
- There are problems, agreed. But there are problems with all the professions.
- Yes, there are a great deal of problems with Rangers right now...
- But consider thatthe recent changes arebran new, and our developer has been on vacation. As well he hasn't even implemented changes to traps, camps, and /track.
- I'll be here, awaiting your return, onceRanger has acheived the levelyou are hoping for. ![]()
I am giving up Master Ranger as well =(. Kinda bums me out, as the only title I want in game is Master Ranger, but the abilities you gain for your skill points are well... weak. I'm thinking of going back to 4-0-4-0. My favorite trap is in Scout, and while I'll miss the HTFB camp, those 14 points would better serve me in a Rifleman tree. There just isn't enough in Ranger atm vs what some of the other classes get. I'm only keeping Wayfaring for the movement bonuses (and I may give this up as well...) and I'm keeping Tracking for the creature info and the harvesting, although I'm not sure how much difference the additional harvesting skills really make.
I'm keeping all my exp maxxed, and if the class ever becomes what I feel it should be, I'll be back.
