Thread: Retiring Master Ranger
But consider thatthe recent changes arebran new, and our developer has been on vacation.
Yeah. Let's consider that for a second.
You develop an Elite Profession devoid of meaningful features. So you whip a few up, cripple the harvest numbers for said profession and send the developer off on vacation of unspecified duration and with no one to cover for him.
You have 40,000 paying customers sitting with their thumb up their ass for a month or more, waiting for the Profession to become something they can enjoy -- and before you even confirm that all of the new features and economic changes are functioning, useful and appreciated - you send the ONE guy that made the changes and can fix the problems away on vacation with NO ONE covering for him.
Indeed. Let's consider this.
- There is no one that can cover for the applications that I maintain at work.
I write mission critical software, too. I'm all too familiar with the responsibility that goes along with having many, many people hanging on your performance and timeliness with code changes. That's why I can say with 100% confidence that this situation is unprofessional in the extreme.
-No one can jump into my shoes without a good two weeks learning curve.
Sounds like something they should have thought about three weeks ago. Whaddya think?
- They did have to give the poor guy a vacation sometime (it was his first one since he joined the team).
You're talking to a guy that was told 72 hours before his honeymoon "There's a problem, you can't go." My freaking honeymoon. I sucked it up, informed my bride and postponed my honeymoon. It's called being a professional.
I must say, I am nothing short of utterly astonished at Sony's project management, or lack thereof. It is so woefully underperforming, I'm beginning to believe they are intentionally breaking things and dragging their feet with design improvements so as to keep stringing the customer base along, in hopes that someday it will all be working correctly. I can think of no other reason for some of the shortcomings that are screaming "Fix me!' right out of the gate. It simply is not possible that they didn't notice what everyone else noticed 15 minutes after the patch download.
- Geez... Are all the Rangers software developers? ![]()
- I agree jmatt, for a mature company such as Verant, Sony,or Lucasarts... They do seem to making quite a few mistakes that others have done before them. ![]()
"It simply is not possible that they didn't notice what everyone else noticed 15 minutes after the patch download."
- It's quite possible they did notice theissue and had to weigh it against a possible burnout with the developer.
- The game has continued on even in lieu of the problem. Prices for harvests have increased (as the supply has dropped), which makes some people happy I'm sure.
- But the game has not ground to a halt because of the harvesting reduction.
- I would prefer arelaxed developer who makes less mistakes in the future, than one who continues to make new ones in some glazed over haze. ![]()
"will you please follow up with Holo, C, or Green today?"
- Ok, I get Holo and Green. But who is C? ![]()
- Right now, I have no more channels than you in conveying information to the developers.
- I had to get the appropiate email addresses from DeltaXi65 because Xahn failed to fill me in on anything. ![]()
- I'm leary to make any sort of move until Xahn provides me with some code of conduct (how many times I'm supposed to email, to whom, for what reason...).
- I guess I should contact him again, and see if I get any further information. ![]()
"I have a dark blue name, what does it mean? Oh... Figurehead... I see." ![]()
doh! I meant Q.. I guess you can see how I got C out of Q3PO. hehe
Anyway, ok.. Hopefully Xahn can get you up to speed so we know we have a rep in contact with the big boys. I'm sorry I'm being such a pain about this, but it was supposedly an unitentional nerf and I really can't understand why their course of action was to wait and do nothing while we have to just deal with it and "chill out".
"I'm sorry I'm being such a pain about this"
- No problem... I know how frustrating it can be waiting on a new addition / fix. (I'ma player of this game as well, don't ya know
)
- All we can do is wait. Prodding them will probably not get us anywhere fast. ![]()

Sad but oh so true
Guys,
I already went far out of protocol by emailing Holo, Q, Xahn and Green at their Sony email addresses. I don't want NRaas getting into trouble - he just got here. I'm not too worried about me.
Let's give the devs a bit more time. Even if Green came back today, I know how many faxes, emails, flyers and newspapers are on my desk when I've been out of the office for FOUR HOURS, I can only imagine what his email in box is like after a week or so.

It's not even his fault, that's the sad part. I understand things don't work out as planned, that's the nature of software. You live it, just like I do, so I know you know. But a good project director has contingincy plans. Crossing yer fingers doesn't count. ![]()
I'm probably going to drop down to master scout, because prone crawling, camps, traps, and camo kits are utterly worthless to me. The only thing I might keep is the hunting line, for harvesting, definitely not for the stupid tracking thing. Wow, a max range of about 500m, so basically I can "track" stuff that I can just see off in the distance anyways. how is that a ranger skill? Anyone can just look off in the distance, see a bantha and go "ooh! I just tracked down some bantha's!". Seriously, make the range 1km or 1.5km or get rid of it, it's worthless.
I loved being able to harvest like a madman solo, but even that is nerfed now. Not to mention grouping with my pet causes me to get like 5 hide a kill, yay!
Anyways, I do love the Ranger idea, but it's just been one disappointment after another.
