Thread: Why are we tracking people?
I don't know, I kind of like it where it is.I think its a good skill for a ranger to have. It makes us more useful to others, and helps BH's save money on their seekers. If it were given to BH, do you really think they would still use those droids? I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense from a realistic standpoint, but sometimes realism has to take a back seat to game mechanics and making the game fun.
Also, on a personal note, making a BH learn some Ranger skills to have tracking means they don't have as many points available for CH. I just like seeing BH's having to make a choice about what other skills they are going to pick up instead of seeing almost every BHspend their extra points onCH skills. Its more interesting this way. Just my opinion, for what its worth.
Please note that I am in no way attempting to flame BH's or CH's, nor am I saying they should be nerfed. I'm just saying I like seeing some diversity (some BH's with CH skills, some with Ranger Tracking skills, some with medic skills, etc) instead of cookie-cutter templates.
Bounty Hunters don't need to be able to track players, because Bounty Hunters can't claim bounties on PCs.
Moot argument. ~J
Strongly disagree. Rangers need this skill. If for no other reason, it's about the only PvP ability we have. It's not a combat ability, which is fine, we are not a "primary" combat profession. But it is a supporting PvP ability, and Rangers are all about support.
It is correct that BH can't hunt PC, only NPC from missions. And so it won't do them any good. They only need the "Track People" for that, not Players. I don't have it yet, but one of the first things I thought of is using it to go "track" down some Imp that ambushed AH.
Ah, Klif, that may be.
Just assumed people meant, you know... PEOPLE
The tracking tree is very well done, though, developing logically and more intelligently with each new skill.
I think Tracking is the one tree on Ranger that's done as is. Good stuff.~J
People leave a helluva lot more tracks than animals do...
There is absolutely no reason Rangers should not be able to track people/players.
That said, I think Bounty Hunters should be able to track people as well, but they should use a differnt tracking system to be more in sttle with thier investigation method of "tracking"
Rangers track animals, people, and players by examining their environment.
Bounty Hunters should track people and players by "questioning" the environment. Talk to NPC's that tell you where a mark was last seen... Examine data terminals to track where a mark made purchases... Those are the methods investigators use to find people, not looking for broken twigs, footprints, and the smell of aftershave...
"sttle" = line
I have absolutely no idea how that came out that way! I ran a spelling check and It was certainly not that way when I hit submit.
Another bizarre forum glitch...
Sorry.. I should have been more clear. I mean people as in people PC or NPC (assuming BH's will eventually be able to retrieve bounties on PC's, if they get their ultimate wish).
All I'm saying is that Rangers can track animals by their hoof marks and the like, but not Charlie the Mountain Wort, unless Charlie the Mountain Wort has an extra toe. So when we see names on the radar list, that doesn't make sense to me.. like we have some magical ability to know where individuals are 500 meters away. We might know where there are camps of jawas, desert deamons, and evil settlers are, but to know all of their names too seems sorta odd to me.
/shrug
Showing the names of NPC is most likely just for ease of implementation.
I suppose all the tracking results could just read "A person is <insert direction> XXXm"...
Like that idea better?
I don't.
Now if it said "A gang of Desert Demons is <insert direction> XXXm" I would like that. It would reduce the results of the list and make it more managable. It should work that way with creature lair/spawns as well.
Hopefully this will be implemented once GreenMarine gets the Top Issues.
There you go.. "pack of" would be great applied to all things tracked.
Also, don't you think it is kinda odd we can see thier names hovering over thier heads? That makes no sense to me either.
I would be happy with the Faction name and type (ex: a Desert Demon Marksman or a Jawa Engineer)
Some NPC's should still have names, especially the ones that hand out missions, but others just don't matter enough to be individualy named.
\If you can't interact with them aside from killing them, they don't need a name.
"Now if it said "A gang of Desert Demons is <insert direction> XXXm" I would like that. It would reduce the results of the list and make it more managable. It should work that way with creature lair/spawns as well."
Yes, that is how I envision the Tracking of Spawn Points to work.
When there is no visible lair, you would see something like:
- A Herd of Bolle Bol is North (340m).
When there is a lair:
- A Lair of Bolle Bol is North (340m).
ANTARIAN RANGERS. A para-military group based on several planets, including Toprawa, they were formed to assist and aid the Jedi Knights. They were trained to be masters of any environment, in order to help the Jedi in any way possible. During the Clone Wars, whole groups of Antarian Rangers were killed off, and many of the survivors scattered and went underground.
This is why we can track people.
