So last night I was out on yavin harvesting insect meat for a friend of mine. It took me a while to take down the first lair (my combat skills have a little to be desired yet), and even after someone flew through on a bike and got a couple extra spiders all worked up (they came after me since the guy went right past me), I'd only been incapped once.
Later, My fiancee comes online with her master musician/pistoleer and we go out hunting spiders again. I hunker down, throw up /maskscent and /takecover, and start throwing /concealshot at the nearest one.... I knock it down a few pegs, no real trouble, when my fiancee starts shooting. HOLY COW! not only does the one I was shooting decide it's time to aggro, but so do 3 of it's buddies..... who do they go after? ME! Talk about getting crapped on
Anyway, we both ended up getting incapped multiple times while trying to kill just the one lair. This leads me to believe that perhaps I am far better suited to go it alone in dangerous areas than to fall for the "safety in numbers" cliche.
Ah well, I just wanted to share that little story... not very entertaining I guess, but I've been thinking about it since it happened...

y'know I had the same thing happen to me on TC back in the day. I would be totally safe, behind cover and camo, with my Rifle. all of a sudden my friend joins the game and I go hunting with him...boom, he comes up and starts shooting. I get aggro'd every damn time. This was back before I could find buffs (on TC they were pretty rare until a little while ago) so I ended up dying a lot while trying to get him XP.
Though I will say, in general, I do like hunting with a buffed, spiced Tank on the tougher planets. Makes it easier for me to go in and shoot like crazy.

Heh, well IMHO, what ever it's worth, a master ranger, with any single combat profession should be the solo master against animals. Now along with that, that master ranger is not just using pure power, but using skills, tactics, terain etc. To me that's what makes the difference in ranger to a normal combat profession. We are not combat, but a support. Thus, ranger should support a combat profession, even your own combat profession. So if combat profession X alone can solo creatures of Y, then that profession X with Ranger should be able to solo that same Y creature times 3-4, or creature Z. That make any sence? Or at the very least, be able to solo creature Y with much more ease and speed, and safety.
I have run into the situation you spoke of though. What I think it is, is that our inate mask scent mod and camo mods make a difference. Even if you are not currently masked or concealed. Not to mention a lot of non rangers, are not savvy on safe ways to handle creatures and take out lairs. Remember, a lot of others out there, either use buffs/armor to solo and or group hunt a lot. Most rangers I know, will go hunt solo with no buffs or armor, just using skills and tactics. So I see it as the other hunter with you is throwing the dynamics of the hunt off.

That makes sense... when I'm alone I can slowly take the things down one at a time drawing as little aggro as possible, and have very few problems. My guess then, would be that maybe once she starts shooting the spiders it realizes it's been getting shot the heck up and goes after whoever did the most damage (which would be me at that point) regardless of camo, etc.... and the only reason I say that is when the things do aggro, my camo doesn't actually break (which is the weird thing)... they just come straight for me whether I got detected or not.

I figured out the creature-to-hit bonus...it is the creature's chance to hit you, not your chance to hit it!
Actually, some of the younger Rangers may not have experienced the "Ranger Syndrome." Rangers, being masters of the wildnerness, are natural enemies of wild animals. Therefore, if the can sense a Ranger is in the group, they will aggro them first. It is the law of the wild.

He's not joking folks. Here is the picture. Me, with mask scent on, or camo on. Wearing green camo type clothing and pistoleer(week). Group mates, BH and TK with some scout. I throw a trap or two, and kneel at 40m shooting away with my almost useless pistols, compared to a TK and BH(wearing all white). Who does the thing agro on, and mostly who does the new pops out of the lair agro on? Little ol cute Bothan me!!
But a point was brought up that I have already glossed over, but maybe should be a coorepondant issue. I also will get attacked/agroed while grouped with out my camo or mask scent getting broken. It seems to me, and I'm sure many of you, that the creature needs to make a roll against our camo/MS to agro us. Even if I'm in a group, that is smashing the crap out of them. If the creature fails to break my camo/MS, then it doesn't see me and moves to the next person on the agro list. Make sence?
Is this how it is supposed to work? Or should work? It sure isn't how it seems to be working lately.

I am the one wearing white... I told ya before why it happens.. all those creatures out there are USED to seeing ranger types in green and brown and naturey type colors... when they see me in my white outfit they get confused and don't realize that I am shooting them.. in fact I think they think I am part of the scenery..

I went helping a newb friend of mine tonight, shes buffed armored and eager to kill fambaas.
Im unbuffed, unarmored and way in the back plinking away with my carbine. When BAM 4 fambaa charge me. I managed to stay alive until the end, but it was touch and go for a bit.
even ex-rangers get the love. (they remember)

Each time you shoot a creature it runs a check against your take cover/maskscent/camo modifier. If one of those checks fail it goes into combat mode and goes after the one who has done the most damage. The annoying part is when it's put into combat mode by someone else (in the group, driving past on a speeder, another creature, etc) your modifiers don't mean squat and it wil come after you since you did the most damage on it.

That was pretty much my guess as to why it works like that... kinda sucks, but what can you do ?

That's why I really like to be alone in the wilderness
. It's just me and the beasts. No one disturbing our death play
