Thread: How Do You Want Ranger To Develope?
Firstly, I choose not to join in with the GCW, and PvP. PvP is somewhat unbalanced, broken and leans to the stacker. While I do enjoy a bit of friendly PvP, I am not a huge fan of the buffed special spam fight.
I think that Military Ranger is a good idea, but for me, I am much more of a loner, a hunter, a resource provider and a tracker. I have a good knowledge of tactics, a good assortment of weapons, and a tendancy to rush into the heat of battle with guns blazing or my pike furiously swinging. However, most of the hunting i do, is directed towards critters, and NPC's I can easily take down most of the bad nasty pirates and thugs on Lok, I have no problems soloing Black Suns or Marauders. Nightsisters (most of them) when in singles, I can easily whomp. So, for me, the only benefit for ranger as it stands now towards NPC fighting is tracking, and the +defenses at master.
I fear that the mixed profession would leave us in a "jack of all trades, master of none" situation. We would be decent animal hunters, decent NPC hunters, and we would still get whomped in a PvP fight with a stacker.
For me, if we can transform scouting skills into actual hunting skills, directed in a creature-centric view, that would be perfect for the way I fight and play the game.
I don't like PvP ether, but it's because of the current system and not because I would not like that play style. If we had more of a role and ADDED to the possible tactics used in PvP I bet this could change, and most of you that don't PvP mightgive it another look.To be blunt, I want both, and we really have nether. Oh, they make us THINK we have the Creature centric one, but we don't.
My view of how this prof should be is more like the Mountain Man in the American old west. From them came the Kentucky Long RIfle, and military scout teams. I really don't see why there is a conflict here. If you are far too used to D&D Ranger (in the EQ box thinking) I can see why you might be. We should not be Druids. CH have that. If you compare that CLASS to the others in D&D, RANGERS ARE FIGHTERS! They have more in common to thier combat classes then we do to ours.
Hunter (existing Ranger) and maybe something that blends with ANY combat proff for the Military Ranger, stemming from Survival + Exploration (+ maybe trapping) lines.
Last night my guild was going on a base raid with a few other guilds. They asked me if I was coming and all I could tell them was no, I'm not built to hold up in pvp... granted my fiancee went and she's a master musician with some pistoleer and medic, but I couldn't think of one reason why I would enjoy getting my butt kicked by some jerks and their base.
In light of that, I'd have to say I'm leaning more toward a hunter-type. I'd like our camo to actually camo us (as per our many posts on stealth), and I'd love to snap a guy up in a bear trap as well.
So final result: 80% hunter 20% military/pvp
I lean towards mixed.....
I think we should be mostly Hunter oriented and a portion of the skills should be also used in PvP. I.E. Traps working on Player pets. Post CB (hopefully) CH might have a bigger role in Player Vs. Pharmacy and I think we are a natural counter to them. From what I read Player or NPC traps for Rangers are NOT going to happen.
PvPh... now THAT is funny
