Thread: How Do You Want Ranger To Develope?

i actually have a problem with the way the developers employ the distinction...

to be good vs. creatures, they try to givepeople reasonable advantages... this means tactical bonuses (increased chance to hit creatures, traps), and things that remove creature AI (maskscent, camoflauge), and combat abilities that only work on MOBs (/rescue, /concealshot, /feigndeath, ranged support, etc)..

to be good vs. PCs, they give people combat advantages... this means improved accuracy, battlestates (ex: dizzy), improved defenses...

the trouble is, all of the bonuses they give to people for PvP also apply to PvE... a smart PvPer can whoop us in a duel, and then they can go on to solo a krayt dragon... the only PvP specific ability is /snipershot - ranged deathblow...

even if we got the bonuses we'd like for PvE the PvPers would still be able to compete with us, because of the way they differentiate between the two... PvP advantages= offensive and defensive bonuses, PvE advantage = abilities and skill bonuses...

if you prefer the hunter... the only way to compete with the PvPers in our PvE, would be if our abilities and skill bonuses were so high that even the smartest PvPer could not match us... that would mean incredible bonuses to our creature-only combat skills and our harvest rates...

i probably prefer the military ranger... buteven then isee ushaving an edge in PvE, because of the way the system works... but i could be wrong about how ranger should be viewed, so i'm not going to press my points much anymore... who knows, maybe they've intended squad leader to be what i thought ranger should be all along...

I am leaning more towards the military version of the ranger.

I subscribe to the HUNTER! IMO if you want PvP be a JEDI or one of the many COMBAT driven professions. Before you flame...I realize RIFLES is PvP useful, but with choosen RANGER!!!

Hunter, absolutely. I don't PvP and detest "twitch" games in general.

I too would have to say Hunter ...Just because with the other 2 it seems we would be stepping on others toes and I dont want to become a proffession that others want just because its the best thing going on like Rifleman for instance.

Who knows what they will do to us all come the Combat Revamp ?I know one thing for sure is that if there is a combat proffession that you really like..

Nows the time to get moving towards mastering it since I bet there are other casual gamers out like myself who took a wee bit' of my life just trying to master the ones I have now and they are sure going to whack everyone hard with the nerf bat to take our once easy way of taking down creatures

Hopefully in return us Rangers will get some useful hunting skill bonuses out of it?

If we do go military only and become a possibility for part of a power gamer template would that make us "Power Rangers"?

I got dibs in "Green Ranger"

Oh com'on, it was funny, admit it

I prefer the way of the Hunter.

Initially I got the initial impression from reviews thatRanger would be amilitary & wilderness survivalist type, building field bases that help your PA etc in-field forward operations in the GCW. It appeared more of a military combat support class.

I'd like to be able to skin an animal for the usualresources but then be able to manipulate the resources and carve bones into charms, trinkets trophies or utensils, and maybeget to make a wineskin from hides, just the simple things so we dont step on any 'real' crafters toes and get us some kind of special Ranger only craftables(Like make Rancor teeth Scout Ranger skill to pull them without breaking them), justsomething'sthat we can trade or mount inour homes(we all want thosetrophy collections!.. skulls and shrunken heads.... I am aWookiee what did you expect

Im in the hunting mind set also.

I think its because of some of the other sw games (particularaly KoToR) ive played, ive always wanted to be one of the great hunters they go on about.

I loved visiting the hunting shop on tatooine in kotor talking with the npcs there (the other hunters). I would love a game that would let me explore and play a hunter like those, where success is based on pride and taking on challenging hunts.

Thats how i would like it:

  • Pure creature hunting (Combat, traps, stealth, /areatrack, tracking)

  • Harvesting (Rates, abilities, trophys, ranger only loot drops)

  • Wilderness survival (camps, /rescue, /forage)

Id also like alot of profession specific quests implemented just to spice things up abit. Theres nothing to capture the attention of the player after he/she masters unless they are into pvp.

PVP i dont mind if its like a bounty on my head for killing one of jabbas pet creatures on tatooine, however i dont like the idea of been forced into pvp for the end game.

I didnt like the comment where the devs said pvp is the elder content in this game. I think that was just a lame excuse keep the community in line and stop asking what do we do now? As i see it pvp should be an 'option' if you want but things should be added to the game to keep the pve orientated players happy also.

Space opens up alot of oportunities such as profession related areas. How fun would it be to have a certain habbitable astoroid in space where rangers could fly to, land and meet up, exchange info, stories and goods with each other in the comfort of a nice underground cavern with acossey cantina integrated into the cavern This is the sort of profession specific content i crave. It wouldnt be too hard to do, take one of the large cave sets used across the planets and just modify it with a cantina and alot of profession specific items.

Arg i hate when this happens, now ill have to write sumet about this, check out a post called erm Ranger Only Zone if you have the time.

Calc? Any ideas if the devs who are working on jtls will come back over to doing more content for live rather than be shipped off to work on another expansion?

Owen...I think the best we can hope for is that some of the devs switch back an forth between the two for concurrent development. Greenmarine is a close to a dedicated Dev that we will get, but as you can see, he is busy (BUT he was on JTL and came back, so I guess that answers your question).

I'm for the hunter type. I don't wont to be part of the nerf this and that community. I fear it will happen if we get too good in PvP. So I'd rather be "uber uber" in PvE .

Right.

I personally dont want ranger to be a fotm, and that our skills lead to excellence in PvE. Can you imagine all the weirdos and dumb-azzes that would start posting?

They just wouldnt get it.

Nastzguehl, you have a good point, either we would get nerfed, or have people crying for our nerf... so in my personal opinion... the hunter.

Hunter, for sure. Only one note, traps should work on any creature (CH's ones too, I mean).

ok a few points here in no order of importance:

1. I want ranger only trophies. Let the crafters make the base for it or something, but if I kill something I want to be able to put it's head on the wall.
