Thread: How well does area track work?

I am currently thinking of working towards Ranger so I can get the tracking skills to allow me to hunt for resources (especially rare creatures) I am curious to know if it actually improves your chances of finding what you are tracking?

I have tracking four and it shows me all spawned creatures up to 400-500 away.

I have tried setting my radar to 512 and I see zippo beyond about 128.

So, it is an improvement.

Key phrase - Spawned.

If the critters are not spawned because no one has gone into the area recently, you will not see them until you get close enough to allow them to spawn.

You can do an areatrack, see nothing, move literally 10 feet and meet mr and mrs rancor who want to have you for lunch. Yikes.

Agreed.

They really need to allow areatrack to locate the hidden spawns or the lairs that don't have the mobs out.

Last night I was on Naboo and did an areatrack. Bam there was a Peko Peko Albatross.... I have been looking for this forever... Well I headed off in the direction it said... Went a little while did another search and it was gone.... went back to where I started and still nothing.... I spent the rest of the night looking but never found it again....

I wish creatures didn't "un-spawn" like that. It's really annoying.

I had three slice hounds spawn outside my house the other day, but seconds later they dissapeared.

Who with Tracking 4 can tell me about the tracking of pc's and such? How's that? Better/worse than mobs?

Thanks

Gustav

I get that all the time, it's driving me mad....! I'm still to locate one and have given up with /area track for this particular beast as its giving me red herrings all the time.

In general,

for every 10 successful tracks, I get one bugged tracking. When the albatross first hit the game, I had 5 tracks and 1 success, however, generally It works well.

as for PC's, when they are moving so fast that they leave the radius in a few seconds, a dynamic tracking system seems much better suited

"as for PC's"

Aye... I only use /areatrack when I see the blips on the radar and want to know who may be hunting nearby.

As for NPC tracking:

When I run out of spawns in my immediate vicinity, I use /areatrack to give me a direction to an existing spawn. That way I know that something is in the direction I am going, and I am not wasting my time travelling that way.

In the end however, I usually end up fighting the spawns that appear on the way to the tracked item, and I almost never find myself fighting the creatures I originally tracked.

At one point, when the path to jedi was thought to be tied to the "mark of intelligence" badge, I was hired to track the npc's that did it. Little did I know that after 4 hours of hunting for the guys, the spawn was soon figured to be dependent upon the player walking into the range of the spawn site. (at least thats the latest theory)

that being said, a lot of times, there are invisible spawn points where your entry into them causes a spawn of creatures, npc's, etc that would be undetectable by /areatrack

I agreethat /areatrack needs to be changed so it updates constantly. People on vehicles move so fast, so the distance away becomes irrelevant.
