This was proposed by Keldarin in the Enhancement thread. I'm way against having to have carbines as a prereq since there are soooo many different other professions others would like to match with the new Ranger.
C'mon Rangers, give your reasons why we dont want to see a marksman prereq for Ranger.
I'm also rather curious as to why Keldarin would want to use Carbines as a prereq....

People already have their ranged/melee preferences, and to make folks change to something that they don't want, is crazy in my book. I say put the requirements as 4400 Scout. That way, we still have TN, and can use traps.
My 2 cents...

Its bad news.
If they plan on sticking with it then they need to balance that decision by giving us carbine weapons and offensive/crowd controlling abilities.

the odd thing is that this will force them into a respec situation. If you're TKM/Ranger and you want to stay that way, you couldn't be a Ranger without a respec. Odd that they'd force a change that would require a respec, when we all know how bad they were for the game.

They must be trying to make Ranger use some sort of weapon(carbine)xp instead of traditional Scouting. Thats the only reason I could think of for this change.

guess we're an official combat profession now, boys and girls. Got to say, I already miss feeling unique. But the changes are still worth it, in my opinion.

If we are going to be pidgeon-holed, I can think of worse things than Carbines. I have always like Carbines

I don't like being forced into ranged ranger rather than being a melee ranger. More importantly if they are intent on putting in a marksman requirement it should be 0004 just like all those other ones that require that.
I still like the two lines in scout option though.

Okay, I'll keep my rant till later, but this smacks of dumb.
BUT
Within the dev new view of Ranger it makes more sense to have somebody who is suited to CQB/FIBUA than a long ranger sniper type. Personally I'd been thinking unarmed/TK or pistols would be more suited to getting in close and dirty.
But carbines, okay, can see where they're going with that sort of. It's the middle ground.
BUT
as has been said already, this really does create the sort of circumstances where a respec is going to have to be offered (or rather ought to be offered, big difference there). Melee rangers are going to be well out of place with this and obviously any non-carbineer based ranger is going to be disadvantaged.
BUT
Will there be enough SP's freed up to allow existing Rangers to take the carbs line and still retain their existing combat pref?

FWIW, Owen and I are chatting with the devs about this, and I am sure Paks will, but I think she is in rush hour traffic in Boston...

I would much rather they kept the prereqs in the scout class. It allows people to design their rangers how they want without being penalized.
