Ok I've been the most undecided player in the history of this game. I had finally thought I decided on a career path until this weekend.

Let me explain. I had reached Master Marksman some time ago and was very proud of that accomplishment. I had worked really hard and spent a lot of time doing some flat out grinding to reach it and finally got it. Not too long after I got Master Scout of which I was equally proud. At times I've wavered between BH, Commando, Carbineer, and Ranger. I thought I had finally decided on Carbineer/Ranger and knew I'd have to give up the title of Master Marksman eventually and was dreading the day (since I worked so hard to get it) but had bit the bullet and said "ok". I've earned about 7 boxes in Ranger and 1 box in Carbineer and was happily advancing along my "choosen" path. Life should be good right?

Then this weekend something happened. I'm out on Lok doing destroy missions with some friends of mine. I'm merrily blasting away when suddenly I see this message "You have qualified for the skill Novice Bounty Hunter". Since then that message has played through my mind constantly. I'm torn fellow Rangers. While I like being a ranger I always wanted to try BH but had resolved not do to it to go with something else because I just wasn't sure if it would be for me. Now I've actually qualified for the skill and the work involved (it has been a lot of work to get master marksman, master scout and 40K combat XP) has been more than the work required to get to where I am in ranger. For your reference by the time I got wilderness IV I had already maxed 30K trapping XP and 30K scouting XP. Not only did I qualify for Wilderness IV I also qualified for Master Scout, Novice Ranger, Trapping I & II, Hunting I and Wayfairing II.

I'm afraid I *may* be saying goodbye to the ranger profession soon. I've decided to get Novice Bounty Hunter and grind out some more weapon xp to get a few boxes in it. I want to see what it's like. I've always had this desire in the back of my mindand had gotten the pre-reqs and don't have to throw away all that work (rifle specialist was a doozy). What this means is if I decide to go the route of the BH I may have to leave ranger behind. It's a very tough choice and I'm posting here because I really enjoyed my time as a ranger and reading and posting on the ranger boards. From having very constructive and civil arguements with Zarn over /rescue tactics to reading about the new changes it has been a blast.

If I decide to become a BH (and lose any shred of originality since you can't go 3 feet without seeing another one . . . but it may be fun which is all that matters) I may be leaving the Ranger profession. . .

At least until I become a Master Ranger with another toon that is.

dont be one of the millions. whether bounty hunter or ranger trust your instict and enjoy your self. i know we rangers would love to have you remain one of us. good luck.

Thanks guys. I'll probably go ahead and stick with Carbineer/Ranger. I'll hang on to Master marksman as long as I can since the +5 to carbine speed is pretty good and actually usefull in the carbineer tree.

However I wish I would have made this choice in the beginning. 180K weapons xp and nearly 30K combat xp (rifle spec, pistol spec ranged support IV) will eventually be scrapped and gone. Oh well just more gunning and grinding. . . actually not so bad. The skills from the Marksman tree aren't enough just by themselves without something to build on it (like carbineer).

Of course this is all well and good until NEXT week when I start wondering "should I go BH again" starts back up

As you can tell I don't normally post on the boards, but your dilema has left me wanting to respond. I, too was a Master Marksman and Master Scout and was proceeding up the Ranger Ranks when BH caught my eye. But then I thought about what leaving the Ranger profession would mean. I feel that Rangers are a special breed of MMORPGers that go beyond the pvp/ most popular/ most powerful professions that most of the sheep tend to flock to and that leaving would Ranger would make me part of the looked-past cattle. I am so glad that I never left Ranger (became Master at 8am this Sunday morning).

There is a bond that the Ranger Profession has that most of the others do not. It could be the "Nature guy who can whip butt" kind of thing but I look at other Rangers as brothers not as advesaries. During the time I was leveling up I didn't look at other Masters and become competitive or jealous as I have seen in the other professions that I looked at.

Making the choice to become a Ranger (before the announced changes) really shows a that you noticed something special about the profession. I mean, who else chooses to master a profession that was clearly undeveloped.

I too see the bond of rangers. It really is like we are a band of brothers (and sisters) on this board and that hasn't escaped me and is very cool.

What I will probably do is go ahead and get Novice BH. I've got enough points left that I can at least get novice and a few boxes and not have to dump my ranger stuff. I'll try it out and if I get the "oh man this is the greatest thing since sliced wonder bread" feeling then obviously I'll stay. To try to get some sort of uniqueness I'll just skip a title. One less "bh something" title floating around in the galaxy. If however I find it's not for me I'll just come back to where I probably belong in the first place. The Ranger.

Either way I'll have scout mastered regardless and starting over in Ranger isn't that much of a big deal to me since the class is so appealing. It's the one thing in this game I haven't seen as a grind. . . unless you count wilderness XP uugh.

I would rather at least try BH than to skip it all together and never have that gnawing feeling in the back of my mind of "what if I had tried BH and really enjoyed it despite being just another sheep clone" answered.

Also remember as I said earlier. . . I've got 10 characters. If I don't getranger with this one then I'll do it with another one. What I'll probably do on another toon is start with carbineer/ranger right off the bat. That way I'll never have to throw anything away.

As a former Bounty Hunter here are my thoughts. Bounty Hunter was supposed to be the elite profession and the premise sounds very fun. But you will be one of thousands of Bounty Hunters. I have seen 3 different BH in a single city taking out marks with 30m of each other at the same time.Also BH is very very boring. You get a mission, run to the handler and then catch shuttle or walk to target kill target collect reward and then repeat. It monotonous. Then you train Invest 1 and you really start to lose money. The droids blow up run out of energy get eaten by space slug, etc. You see your nest egg starting to dwindle. So you untrain invest 1 and do novice missions until you hit the 10k cap (which i hear you can't do anymore). Then you skip invest 1 and train 1 and 2 at same time. Now magically the droids work and you can actually find your target. But now you've been nerfed and unless your heavily armored you can be one shot killed nearly every time. Still boring though and the money still not so great. Yes, I thought it would have been fun but I was really getting tired of the game. Started just doing PvP and hunting all the time. Finally started thinking about not playing anymore so I decided to become Ranger. I love when I do a search on Rangers and only see 3-4 people pop up. I love hearing how cool the camps are. And i love that I can have fun and still have credits to buy some new trash when I want. You need to do what you feel though. i just thought I would share my perspective on it.

Thanks. I just came from the BH boards and it's not looking good. Bunch of whiners and a BH correspondant who's waging a one person crusade to getting their own profession nerfed. What person actually calls for a nerf to their own profession?

Players who ONLY see things from a PvP perspective.

Players wanting to move every special up to Master BH.

Oh and I almost forgot. Being a BH means having to put up with Zarl0k. The worst poster I have evern had the misfortune of knowing. Just do a simple search for this buy and read his posts pertaining to BH. Whew.

You are also right in this. I would be one of gajillions with no hope of individuality whatsoever.

This is a tough decision by far. Mainly I like the idea of being able to use multiple types of weapons. . . perhaps I'll just stay with Carbineer/Ranger after all. . . we'll see.

I've probably answered my own question. . . and all this because I don't want to give up Master Marksman. . . hmm I'm still so undecided.

The biggest problem is this game while fun is nothing but time-sinks. That's why I'm so reluctant to give up anything because to accomplish ANYTHING takes forever if you are a casual non power gamer which I am. Yes I've got 9 other characters but man the TIMESINKS in this game are everwhere.

atimes please do not give up ranger for bounty hunter you will be upset. Take it from a former bounty hunter who had Carbine and Pistol 3 tree and LLC 1 tree of Bounty hunter. I got invest I and what a waste of money. I had 200k and by the time I was done trying to go for invest II I was 100k in the whole. I decided over this weekend to go the route you are working on. Master Ranger / Carbineer / Master Medic. Do not go bounty hunter. I knew from the beginning I wanted to be ranger and decided at the last moment as I did all my scouting XP how boring it was but in my head said stay with it and guess what. The changes they are making are worth it now since I went back with my first thought.

Good call. The last thing the world needs is more BHs or CHs.

If you are still interested in lots of weapons, perhaps you should check out Commando. Now that their weapons work, they'll be formidable.

Ya, my dream was BH at first, but then I decided to try Ranger. I had the skill points for it, just wanted to test it out and see what it's like. Well, I've always loved Rangers and this one is no different. In fact I can't wait to see the new changes. And being a BH is kind of like having the title "Hunter". I thought it was cool, until I saw everyone else and their grandmother had it, so I'm going with "Guardsman" until I make some Ranger titles. And I'm sorry, I hate being called a "Novice" Ranger or "Master" Ranger. I truly just want "Ranger" above my name when I hit master. But oh well, we'll have to see.

The BH board is a scary place at times that is for sure. Chose wisely whatever you chose but please remember you were a ranger first. My 2 credits is to keep on being a ranger/marksman but that is just me.

You're completely free to choose your own path, but take it from an Ex-bounty hunter turned Ranger, BH is not all its cracked up to be.

Personally, I found it redundant and boring. Take a mission, run 4 km, kill, run 4k back, repeat.

Ranger, on the other hand, has given me a new enthusiasm for the game.
