I am so glad I read this thread. I have been qual'ed for SL, BH and Ranger for 2 weeks but could not decide direction to go. I love being in field and trapping, hunting and exploring. On the other hand the SL profession was attractive because Ive always been big team guy......

But I always come back to loving setting up camp....foraging.......searching lairs...etc...etc....

So this weekend I make the cutover. Thanks guys. And I feel good about it.

I don't post often to the Ranger boards, but this post grabbed my attention.. I just got Novice Ranger recently and have Wayfarer 1&2 now. I also have Novice Rifleman/Master Marksman and hand to hand specialist is only 10k of 70 k left to reach Specialist.... would have made it by now if the DEVs hadn't nerfed Vibroknuckles for non-Teras Kasi...

Anyway, I have been waffling for about 10 days now between BH/Ranger and Commando/Smuggler or Commando/Ranger... I am grinding the Combat XP now, and need to make up my mind in the next few days ( I think I am about 15k shy now)... I am hoping I will hit the Combat xp soon, and then go on my impending vacation.. Come back and pull the trigger.... If I go BH/Ranger, I will likley only go up Wayfearer and Trapping only - I will keep Novice Rifleman no matter what...125k just to qualify was not easy, and I love the pre-nerfed t-21 I have...

If I go Commando, it may make more sense to scale back from Scouting and go smuggler... at least from a skill point persepective, but keeping Ranger and going Commando is just as appealing... Commando weapons seem to be geting improved soon, but I am unsure as to wehter Commando will just be a PvP profession - which I really dont enjoy ALL that much.. people get so whiney when you beat them....

So as you can see, iI have just as much of a dilemna as Atimes had.....

You all made some good advice to Atimes, and I look forward to possibly getting some as well...

Allow me to join the club. About a year and a half ago I was adamant I would go for bounty hunter when the game came out. Got master marksman and master scout easier than gaining skills in any other MMORPG I've every played. I started on the 40k combat XP grind for Bounty Hunter, but found myself still tossing traps, setting up camps and foraging food. The only weapon I've grown to love is the carbine. I just really love all those aspects of the game (even if ranger traps are flawed right now).

Still in my "I wanna be a BH" daze, I startedgetting bored trying to gun down anything that walks for combat XP and looked at what other professions I might be qualified for. There was creature handler. I tried it. I didn't like it. Just don't like to take care of pets or droids. Never even looked at the ranger profession before because it was ABOVE master scout, so I thought I probably didn't didn't have the other skills I might need to take it as a profession. I double clicked on it anyway and was happy to see I qualified. At least I had a choice.

I immediately went to the boards to see what the ranger community was like. Wouldn't you know? There is the post from Holo with info that there will be some kick arse changes to camps, traps and the advent of camo kits. I couldn't believe it!

And you rangers are pretty **edit** cool, too. Tons more constructive and into RP more than the bounty hunters. Here's a case in point. Holo took the time to write a pretty nice update on what was planned for you guys. His post to the bounty hunters was very short and had "screw youpricks and your piss poor attitudes" written between the 10 lines or less that made up his update. He didn't even tell them whether the changes were going to be in the coming patch or anything.

One of my other observations is: Ranger is more bounty hunter than bounty hunter is. With our traps, the coming ability to track (without a droid), our choice on the method of killing things (weapon or barehanded), the missions we can choose (or not)are all what I envisioned for bounty hunter. Sure, we're better equiped for PvE than PvP or against humanoid NPCs. But I have more fun toggling a pair of sycks with phen darts and leg shots than I do in non-ceremoniously taking out Jabba Thugs with a few carbine specials.

I'm not trying to talk you out of anything here, atimes, but don't forget how difficult it was to get that 40k combat XP. You coulduse it toward carbine support if you don't go BH. I too am a master marksman and dread thinking about giving up the pistol and rifle lines, but you will still hang onto the ranged weapons support line along with carbine.

I'm realizing and thinking about the difference between BH and Ranger. BH will mostly be about acquiring weapons skills with a touch of investigation. No need for any ofour scout skills except for terrain negotiation and mask scent. Weapons are only a small part of my interest in the game. Investigation (i.e. tracking) is only a small part of my interest, too. But we'll be getting tracking skills soon. I really like the camping, trapping and foraging aspects of the game and they have become second nature. Camo will just be plain cool. Our new traps will be icing.

So I feel now that my direction within the galaxy will be to stick with that of ranger/carbineer. I'm not even so sure I'll take on medic skills because our camps slowly heal wounds, which provides more XP. I'm still technically undecided, but I'm thinking of sticking with the natural choice on this one.

One other point. We all know we can hardly turn around in the game without running into a Bounty Hunter. Also think of how many "title-less" people are running around that are also bounty hunters. There are a lot more out there than you even see. I know a couple of people who don't put the title up. They feel that not having it up distinguishes them from all the others.

Gotta run.

If you like to pvp Im afraid you need to pick a class with pvp skills. Currently rangers dont bring that and it doesnt look like in the near future they will. Rangers look liked a great class for pve but if you like to pvp it looks like its lacking.

Excellent point, Sinron. I rarely do PvP, but like to run to the battlefields to set up camps once in a while. It's fun to do once in while, but I tend to get my arse handed to me. I basically solo 90 percent of the time. So my opinion comes from that point of view.

I love being a ranger because I love to hunt and explore. I picked up Bouty Hunter for two reasons. First is scatter pistol. Second is that instead of going the route of Pistoler or Carabineer i can use booth now. I wanna be a master ranger and have two lines from BH: pistols and carabines. That will leave me with 1 SP left, lol.

Maybe I dont have all the defenses of a master pistoler or carabineer, but thats enough for me to hunt and I can use what I like in the moment.

I think you should stay with the Rangers and just try to do some BH missions.

BTW: any Rangers looking for new friends on gorarth??
