Thread: Obituary to Rangers
Looks like that's it folks! After the changes the devs announced yesterday with creatures, effective and practical hunting is over. I feel bad for the crafting community. Instead of making the situation with creatures and pets better, they simply made it worse. Instead of addressing the root causes of all the pets floating around, they decided to make it worse. When was the last time the dev team listened to what we were telling them? When was the last time the dev team acknowledged the problem of rampantly social mobs? Well, I've never seen or heard of it.
You know I've never gripped or complained about the dev team before.......not even at launch! But it's reached a point of, "What the hell can I do now?" I tried going to TC to help them test new content, but they cant keep it online long enough to test anything. Now with the changes their making to the creatures, my Ranger career is over. It was nice while it lasted. Now I have to find somewhere in the Galaxy where I can hunker down and wait to see what happens next. I never believed that the devs might do enough to take my favorite game away from me, but it looks like their trying. Some of the changes they announced yesterday sounded good, even hopeful. But when they decided to nerf EVERYONE in the game, that took all the wind out of my sails. I don't know what to do with my character now.
This may turn out to be my first post that will wind up being locked cause it's the first time I've gotten upset with the dev team. I just wish I could understand why??
Why haven't they listened to us?
Why can't they use common sense in all this?
Why can't they keep the servers online?
Why can't they think outside the box?
Why can't they come up with fixes and solutions that don't screw it up for other LEGITIMATE gamers?
I hate ranting.........I never do it. Sorry........I'm done...
Why are Rangers dead? Why is it a nerf to everybody? Why so upset already?
Many Rangers rely on their pets to help them while they go around gathering resources. Now they are talking about limiting non-CHs to level 10 and even Novice CHs can only have one pet out at any time. That may be what he is referring to.
By the way, if the freaking Devs would just implement AE Snare traps or some kind of Detaunt traps, this might be a good alternative to using pets.
We also need those traps that can be used on humanoids.
Ok, so they limit pets to level 10 for us non-CH types.
Let me see, the last time I used a pet was... when I could not find a CH to use one, so like one time this entire week. And all he did was tank on pickets while I wasted them. Instead of a gurreck, I will use my wrix and have two of those ready to rock, as they don't tank quite as well. It's not the end of hunting as I know it. And I can still get lots of resources killing the little beasties too, so what is the deal here??
Really, learn some combat skills outside of Ranger. Dunno what missions y'all are drawing, I am soloing level 23...solo, no pets, solo. The only time I don't solo is when I want harder higher XP missions and I go with someone else, and she rarely uses her pets, as we both know how to fight.
I will laff my butt off they nerf CH, as that is now the uber PvP class, or at least until we can use traps on pets. ATSTs fear Commandos, CHs will learn to fear us.

I live for the day that CHs fear going up against a Ranger in pvp. I personally have never used a pet, and probably will not use one except for a mount. Everybody is crying about the nerf to CH, but if you look at it closely, it is only a nerf to those who do not want to devote themselves to the profession. The days of being a 4-3-0-0 CH, and being urber is over. If you cant live without using a pet, find a good CH to go out on missions with you, or become one yourself.
I do not see this as being the end of Rangers, only the beginning. When our trapping line gets revamped, we will be in high demand in both pvp (against CHs), and pve (against NPCs).
"What good is a level 10 pet?"
The original intention of allowing non-CHs to have pets was not for combat purposes...
- Originally, the concept was to open a new market for selling pets for CHs, and allow non-CHs to have a pet... Not a combat tool, but a household feline or bird. A companion for role playing, or sentimental value.
But since most players engage in combat, they see that as the only reason to have a pet.
- Droids were meant to fill the slot of combat pets in the world of non-CH...
- And as soon as they implement the new combat droids I suspect that will be such.
I, for one, am glad I don't use any pets at all. I don't "dabble" in CH at all, and I don't have one single non-CH pet. Instead, I have a DROID! Imagine that, a droid. I made Trasgo-Desombra (on Gorath/Moenia) a happy DE the day I asked for the biggest, baddest combat droid he could make. In turn, I spent 50k on an Advanced Probot droid with two storage modules (since I'm not a medic at all). Now, my group can use him as storage (he can hold the death star, hehe), and I have medium-armored support when it's needed.
Pets, regardless of CH or BE-grown or DE type, are supposed to be expendable. Instead, on SWG now, CH pets are majorly over-used and DEs are hardly requested to make droids, etc...when droids get fixed, you'll see more of those, which is what I want to see anyways. When traps are affecting CH pets, they will learn to store them before going into pvp. Personally, I'd love to see a CH pet be able to be permanently slain (aka 1 vitality, not 100) since there are so many of them, they're easily replaced. This would make those that "dabble" seriously rethink their strategy when they send in a GSP against a group of melee in PVP (like myself as a TK).
I'll stick with Ranger, having made master two months ago, and with the new stuff coming, I'm happy with it.
It's frustrating as hell to see the devs making changes as they are, but EQ was 10x worse at launch, so I'm not too concerned (this according to my friends who did EQ, not myself).
In my case though, I don't use pets as a crutch when hunting, and can except that if I want to hunt for big game, I'll need to go in a group. I think that's exactly the kind of behavior the devs intended to promote anyway.
any idea when this is going to happen NRaas. I tried useing a droid first but it couldn't stand up as well as beginning level creatures. That's why I use pets on and off.
