I agree with the original poster. I collect huge amounts on resources on my server. Just this weekend I delivered 20k of bone and 10k of herb meat - on a weekly average I am giving over 50k resources to crafters. After I lose my rock beetle, I can't go solo where I used to anymore. This largely will not effect me as I will go find something else to do. It is however going to be crushing to the crafters. I work for an armorsmith and a doctor and keep them stocked. As it is, I can barely keep them stocked and I have several others begging me to collect for them on a daily basis.

The loss of my beetle in essence means I can't solo big game. This forces me to go after the little small game. Yes this can be done but I neither enjoy this nor is it efficient to gather this way when you are looking to fill orders of 10-20k of a resource. I am not going to do what I don't enjoy (all the harvesting has already maxed all my skills and made me rich) so there is no way I am going to run around killing durnis for resources.

Regardless of your love or hate for creatures, this will have a gigantic ripple through the game. The armorsmith I supply is a huge crafter of armor on my server. The doctor makes crates of Stims and can't keep his vedor filled for more than an hour or two because of the demand for stims. Who fills this void? Since as the situation is now, I cannot keep them fully satisfied with resources and they pay me and others insanely well for our effects, it leads me to believe that even under the current system there is still more room for harvestors. The loss of harvestors is simply not going to be magicallymet under the new system because they aren't being met now under the old system which is admittedly easier to collect under.

Further, the addition of combat droids will have no effect...only droid engineers are going to be using combat droids (read the DE update closely). In addition, droids are not easily healable like pets were.

The crafters ARE going to feel this regardless of your love or hate for pets.

Hmmm.... Death of our class? I see the possiblity. I also see us becoming useful in groups for reasons other than our camps. Suddenly, without all the pet tanks, rangers will be called upon to throw more traps. People will want us to slow/stop creatures since they have no pets to do it for them. Just and idea.

I also agree with the original poster. I need my pet to tank against the large aggro-mobs that swarm like angry hornets. They are the critters that spit out enough resources to fill the orders (which is hard enough already) within a timely manner. You are correct that the crafters will be feeling this which means the ripples will touch everyone. Watch and see if prices dont go up for resources and for crafted items.

Or it forces you into a small group, which is what the Devs want to see happen.

> The crafters ARE going to feel this regardless of your love or hate for pets.

At the same time, the player cities with cloning facilities and shuttlesare going to make big-game hunting parties easier to form... and will bring smartcrafters out into the wilds. In the end, I don't think they'll be hurting.

You were never meant to be able to easily take on red con mobs. Get used to it.

Obituary to Rangers? I dont appreciate you making blanketing statements like that just because you dont know how to fight without a creature in front of you.

Um...who said anything about Red mobs? The mobs I kill the most are yellow and white.

-----

Soloing a single mob with Ranger skills is easy. However, the fact is almost everything in this game is social. Please enlighten me oh brilliant Ranger how you would handle fighting a lair of creatures that are social. There are 3 standing there....hit 1 and all are going to go aggro. Your friend needs 20k of meat....please tell us the tactics you will use. Better yet, what server do you play on. I want to create a character and come watch you solo all these lairs of social creatures (like Bols, Pickets, Prongs, etc) using your awesome tactics. Get back to me with a time when I can come watch. Luckily enough I have a second character on Bria.

Oh and AI cheeses like getting outside of 65 M and playing with aggros that way are AI exploits. Lets not discuss those kinds of lame tactics.

------

In response to the person that said group. As much as I try, I have never ever been able to get a group together to go out hunting with the specific goal to kill the same type of creature or two over and over for a few hours to collect a single resource. We always start, kill a few, people get bored and leave.

The problem is, the game IMO is too easy in groups. These changes do not address that. They make solo VERY difficult but they do not change the fact that once you get 3-4 people together the mobs drop like flies and the game becomes no fun. People just are not into it and face it, if grouping was fun or rewarding people would group. It is better to ask the question why aren't people grouping? What is it about grouping that people don't like? than to nerf what people do solo. Don't get me wrong...I love grouping...I group whenever I can. Ihave been to and with a group cleared just about every dungeon in the game. However, groups have zero interest in collecting 20k meat for a doctor so I do those things solo when the people I normally play with are not online.

Bravo! Bravo! (Applauds NovaMarine).

Well said NovaMarine....but I think she/he misunderstood what the issue is or was stated.

The reason some of us are up in arms is prcisely what NovaMarine stated in the second part. If everyone wanted to go collect the same resource for hours on end....then they would have become Rangers to begin with. No....Groups have their place, but Rangers do also...and the some of the changes will in an odd sort of way Nerf our abilities.

The question I have is this....How can someone be Lambasted for dabbling in a profession when the box that the game comes in...the advertising for the game states that you can mix and match to create the kind of character you want? So on one hand they are saying Dabbling is encouraged and yet the post of the changes for CH and the Townhall meeting notes state that they are trying to reduce it and penalized it? I dont know about any of you, but to me it sounds rather contradictive. I enjoy the fact that I have dabbled in CH and BH to create the kind of character I want to be.

Those of you who are blasting the fact that some Rangers use or depend on a pet to Tank with well....you know, I didnt see anyone telling you how to play your character or develope your character. I dont appreciate being expected to play mine or develope mine the way you want me too. Now, if you want to pay my monthly fees to play this, then I will certainly be your cookie cutter player according to your specifications. Thats just my opinion...and you know what they say about opinions.

People are missing the point. Some of us here are using our pets to tank for us against BAF dark-blue or white con mobs while we are resource gathering for our armorsmith/chef/doctor/combat medic friends/guildmates. We areNOT using our pets to help us level.

In case you haven't noticed, sometimes the best resources at a given time are coming from the starting planets. With everyone all hyped up about holocrons and The Warren and whatever the next big monthly quest will be, not many people want to spend their time grouped with us while we are doing this resource gathering when it means they might gain about 20 Combat xp and about 200 Weapon xp when then need 100s of 1000s of xp points to get to the next level.

All you people saying we should find a group, I hope you are the first person on YOUR server to offer to go out with other Rangers to the starting planets where the xp sucks but the resources don't. If you aren't, don't come here and preach to us that we shouldn't be using our pets to help us resource-gather.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention it is impossible to utilize your traps effectively to solo BAF mobs when 2 of the mobswarp to you from 64 meters when the one you had targetted in the first place takes it's time getting to you. Thenyou have to frantically try to target one of the ones closest to you while first cycling through all the other mobs and lairs 80+ meters away from you and to the left.

all i have to say is the new fan shot is a wonderful thing. all those social mobs come at u, u just spam fan shot and hit them all, can drop alot of lower lvl creatures fast this way while still concentrationg on the bigger ones. i usually use my pet, but i made 1k bone w/o him today. of course i am usually with my Master CH/ Commando friend who helps me out a lot... w/opets its gunna be hard to get those large quantities of resources...

Wanna know a secret? Target the closest creature, close in to 64 meters, then target the farthest one, one that is beyond 64 meters, fire your weapon, you will not hit it because you will be out of it's range, the closest creature will then come single to you. Draw the creature away and dispose of it. I do this everyday and i never use pets for social creatures. It is very possible to get a single creature on a pull if you are methodical and patient using this technique.

One star your own ignorant self for not knowing how to play your profession. I use every trap and ability i have and i do not use another profession like CH as a substitute for what i already have. I was soloing CL 37 creatures a a novice ranger/novice pistoleer/ranged support specialist. I am now a Master Ranger, 2 Boxes from Master Pistoleer and still have my ranged support specialist skills. Using all of my skills i can easily defeat high level creatures and i rarely ever die or get incapped.

I said it once and i'll say it a thousand times, Ranger wasn't designed to be mixed with a melee profession. I know just about every melee around uses pets, not my problem and it's not a ranger proble it's a melee problem because they are so dependant on pets.

I'd like to see Rangers get a bonus to the CH. By that I mean, non-CH use a creature with a max level of 10, and Rangers with no CH ability use a max creature level of 15. It makes sense in the context of what rangers do. We're out there in the wilderness studying these creatures, we should be better at it than the average gunfighter, but not so good at it as a CH who has spent even more time studying creatures than a ranger.

Hiya,

Death to Rangers? I don't see the latest dev updates as such, I see an increased demand of my services and camps.

I have maybe more dislikes then likes in SWG to be honest, but I'm still trying to see a good future.

With the new limits on pets, most experienced hunting groups have with them a doctor and/or combat medic. Now with players either having their mounts out or CL10 pets, or even CH's with their 2 max pets well that does cut things alot, but a camp helps solve them as well.

Just died? Doctor has his buffed pet out and doesn't want have a medic droid out due to having another pet (with the 1 pet max rule) well ladies and gents.. except running back to town, a camp is the ONLY option.

Doctors trying to hunt but can't buff their own pets in the field without that droid out as well. Camps again.

Oh, and did you all know that these camps are also listed on the planetary map? Popular spawn areas like krayt graveyard. Open a camp and all doctors come running to heal and buff.

PvP? Ever get into an execution squad? Track for players in your area, There's nowhere to hide except back on another planet.

Ability to hunt solo? As a master ranger, I've gone almost master rifleman.. doable but hardest tactics based on Luck. Pistoleer? Been there, again can handle large critters. Now i'm CH, by far laughable at how easy it is, I'm not a master yet though, so if they change it soon, i'll end being as I am right now except with a master title. Oh and by larger critters, i mean Grauls, Defilers, and 50-50 chance on Kimos. Am I boasting? no. Ranger by itself is not a combat class (Although I strongly feel traps should be able to target players and pets) it's how you use the combination with a secondary class.

Flurry, Master Ranger/CH
