Thread: Rangers helping Jedi what happens?
What I would like to know is how does a Ranger actually help a Jedi? In what ways can we aid them?
Is a Jedi always vulnerable to attack? How does a Ranger assist the Jedi? If they group does the Ranger have the power to attack whoever is attacking the Jedi?
What are the rules ofengagement when a Ranger wants to jump in and come to the aid of a Jedi? Can I declare myself "Jedi Friend" and attack whoever is attacking the Jedi?
As you can tell, I'm pretty clueless about how I can be an asset to a Jedi if I ever found one that wanted help from me. I want to be preparedwhen that happens.
Thanks,
When they ask you for assistance, give it to them.
Do you hunt a lot of Krayt Dragons? Give your Jedi associates the pearls.
Do an /areatrack and let your friend know that people are approaching his location, when you're supposed to be in a remote area.
You're not really gonna be that much aid to a Jedi... you need a good combat class like Bounty Hunters.. those guys can kick some butt... so when a Jedi asks you for help, just tell 5 or 6 bounty hunters where he is, so they can lend him a helping hand. Stick around though, to take some screen shots... It would be a waste for such a good deed to go unnoticed..
Actually they do need help from what they post on the Jedi forum. None of them are that powerful yet, and they have a lot of people apparently trying to find them and kill them so they can say they killed a Jedi. What they fail to see is none of them are a Jedi yet, they just have the character who can become one if they are really good and very very careful for a very long time.

The best thing any Jedi can get is a good friend - doesn’t matter what your skills are, as long as you’re a decent player and a good person. The grinding of the Jedi skills themselves is just sickeningly slow, and if the only way to make it more tolerable is to talk with your Ranger friend, then by the Force, you’ve been more helpful than a fleet of Commando-Doctor-Smuggler-Creaturehandlers (assuming you could actually get those skills - and you cant - what on earth would you call it? A Comdocasmulandler?) You could also offer up lots for harvesters should your Jedi need any resources (some have taken to crafting to earn their experience), or let him hide out at your house in the middle of no place.
If you want to do something specific to the Ranger skills, try some of these:
-- Go out hunting in the back woods of Yavin or some such unused place, and poke around until you find the “sweet” type of critter to kill - there’s always one that’s easier to kill, for great experience. Then track around from lair to lair, killing only the sweet spot critters, so the Jedi can get more experience.
-- While you’re killing the mobs or between fights, track for players to make sure there’s no un-friendly types sneaking up for a piece of Jedi-Ka-Bob. Take it a step further and learn the names of popular/good Bounty Hunters and be able to spot danger while its still 500m away from your friend.
-- Remember all those traps that you hated with such a passion when you were trying to get Master Scout and Master Ranger? The ones that lower melee damage resists ... those really do work. Jedi do sickening damage with a good lightsaber, and when you smack said critter with a little anti-melee juice, its scary to watch your combat window.
-- Your Jedi friend should always, always, always (once more for good measure), always be Camouflaged when he’s with you. Before I made a Ranger character, I never knew what it was to be truly free to Explore and wander - there was always the terror of some unseen thing popping in on my head. Being partly immune to agro is mighty nice for someone who can only die three times, regardless of bugs or bad luck.
Short of a game bug (which is what killed my Jedi friend, the first and only time he’s died) there is no NPC a Jedi should fear. With good (let alone amazing) armor, Doctor buffs, and common sense, a Jedi can simply annihilate any and all mobs. I’ve heard of folks on my server making ‘throw away Jedi,’ and trying to kill Kyrates with them, and having some success. I have no doubt that once the good, secret, hiding Jedi get beyond their beginning stage, their only fear will be players.
Thus, it would be the Antarian Rangers’ job to protect them from the most cunning foe ever presented - a live, human being. No game AI can come close to the crazy things a player will try in order to achieve their goal, especially a bounty hunter with prize money and fame on the line. I don’t PvP much (and when I do, its all small group vs. small group stuff), so you might have better luck there talking with the more PvP-types.
sure i gonna help those jedis
im master ranger ..bh 2 (almost)00 4
Thanks for the suggestions and ideas. I half expected to get ridiculed for asking but what I received were well thought out scenarios with creative considerations. You contributed a lot of good ideas.
Still, I'm not sure how combat engagement is achieved.
Say,a half dozenRangers are grouped with a new Jedi. Using AreaTrack we see a notorious Bounty Hunter at 500 meters and closing. Can some of the Rangers stand fast and engagewhile the remaining party retreat with the Jedi?

Well, while I’m not 100% about how the flagging works, I’m fairly sure that the Jedi’s TEF is exactly the same as the one you or I could get for whacking an Imperial NPC, etc. However, he or she can get that TEF for using a special move, a Force power of any type, and (coming next patch) just for whipping out their Lightsaber. So unless your friend has been attacking critters, simply assume they’re an Overt Rebel - meaning you can heal and help them, but you will find yourself with a TEF as well. So in your scenario ... The server crashes because all six master rangers on the server are the in group together! Ok, ok, just kidding, let me try that again ...
Your Jedi friend has been hunting, meaning he has a TEF. The first thing you’ll want to do is get a TEF for yourself (as well as the other rangers). This is easily achieved by trading something to your Jedi friend (if none of the usual methods, such as using a Stimpack on them, apply). All of you will now be attackable by - but not able to initiate an attack on - the Imperial Bounty Hunter. Most bounty hunters can’t pass up a group of plump, juicy, TEF’d players who are out hunting in the middle of no where, so there’s a good chance he’ll take the bait and attack you first (assuming the Jedi is out of sight). Just work your normal Ranger magic on him to hurt, hinder, or even better kill the Hunter. It’s the rangers’ (and any other defenders’) jobs to make sure the Jedi gets away, even if you all die and just slow down his pursuer
