Thread: Holo Master Ranger... In under 7 days...
Here's how I did and how you can do it also. I went from novice scout to masterranger in less than 7 days. Here's how...
Survival xp.
1. Aquire huge amounts of hide, bone and some metal.
2. Get a couple buddies to sit in your camp while you power grind / craft camps. Disband the camp every 10-15mins. Depends on number ofpeople in your camp to max out your suvival xp. I was also running 3-4 crafting tools at a time practicing crafting camps. I maxed survival xp for scounting and ranger in about 1.5 days. (Macroing survival xp is really a waste of time. The gain is just not worth the effort to afk macro it.)
(This was the only part that really blew. I hate to power craft.)
Trapping xp
1. Craft a huge amount of Glow traps. I can't recall the exact name. But you can hurl them non-stop at a critter and keep getting xp for them.
2. Go to Dantoo and find a hunting partner that has a GSP or 2 and get Bol missions.
3. Let the GSP engage and your buddy kill the Bols. You just hurl trap after trap. I would end up getting 3-6k trapping xp from each Bol.
(If not for finding a trainer, I think I could of maxed trapping xp in under 2 hours. That's for the entire ranger tree.)
Scouting xp
1. Always have maskscent on.
2. Harvest everthing.
3. And the last trick for this that I just found out 2 days ago and caused my scouting xp to increase hugely. Go to the Squill caves on Tat and just sneak around that cave. Don't kill anything. Just use /maskscent and go walking around in there. I got over 100k scouting xp in that place in 2-2.5hours. Was unbelievable the xp that would flow in sec to sec.
(Tip: If maskscent breaks in there. Don't move. Wait until you can apply maskscent again and keep going. If you do get a critter that attacks you in there, burst run for the exit and keep going till you lose aggro. If you get incapped in there, as soon as you get back up from incapped apply maskscent. They should not reattack you if you do that.)
Well there you go. I hope this helps the other Holo Rangers. Good hunting and good luck.
I will have done master in about 5 days when I hit it tomorrow. I have had so much fun doing it I will keep my ranger skills as long as possible and will eventually return to this profession after all is said and done. My only addition to your trapping xp above is to only use wire mesh traps, they give the same xp as the other traps and can be spammed over and over and take less resources. I went from trapping 1 to 4 in 30 minutes trapping slinking voritor lizards.
Imho the best part of the holo profession grind is that you actually get to try new things in the game. I have learned a few things so far, most of all Merchant truely sucks to level and has no advantages really and Ranger is a kick ass reallyfun profession.
Well let me tell you, I wont sit and grind to max xp to reach master as soon as possible. I have found the journey to be the best part of reaching the top of any profession. I know others just want to master as soon as possible (and that’s fine) I just never found that to be much fun.
Having said that, I would like to share a little trick that I used to complete the trapping tree. I would go and find a huurton on dant (since they agro and are easy to pull from the pack) and would lead him away from the lair into an open location. Now comes the fun part, I would try and see how long I could keep him going with out killing him using only Phecnacine Darts to snare him. I would snare him, run 50m in the opposite direction and then wait for the snare to drop. Immediately I would throw another one, rinse and repeat. It’s a fun little mini game in its self :-)
My personal best is 13800XP on one huurton. It would have lasted longer but I’m also TKA and I would occasionally accidentally get a shot or two in passing. Other than that if you are patient enough and have enough traps you could theoretically go on forever.

As long as you're not griefing, exploiting, or otherwise negatively impacting my in-game experience, I frankly don't give a rat's backside how you spend your in-game time. You pay $15/month, same as me. If you're having fun, and you're not griefing, exploiting, or making a nuisance of yourself, then more power to you, I say.
Just my $0.02.
I agree 200%. Hence the reason for my confusion on the low staring I got on the post. I did not post anything to do with griefing, exploiting or otherwise negatively impacting anyone's in-game experience.
I enjoyed the grind on lvling up. The only thing I did not like was the crafting, but it needed to be done to hit master ranger. Anyways, I just wanted to share. If people don't like it, that's your call. If you did like it and it helps you in the future, cool...

Things that get posted regularly in other forums are not always considered kosher by the regulars in this forum.
One last post on this....
How am I belittling a master ranger? There are nice skills in this profession. I just posted how to level up. I did not say anything about the profession... You think by me posting how to level up to master ranger quickly is belittling... That's crazy, if you think that.
The problem with the holo power leveling is that it can and has hand a negative affect on the player based economy. By flooding the market with lower quality goods in order to make a quick credit as someone grinds to the next class you hurt the players that enjoy that class and try to make the best of it. So holo grinders are hurting others in there quest for Jedi. In a large market the impact is not as bad as a smaller one but the effects are still noticed.
SWG is not like EQ or any other Sony game because player actions can drasticly affect the economy. That being said it is not the players fault that the devs implemneted this system but they can take a step back and relieize what there actions are doing to others in game. Thats why the whole here's how to grind out this proffesion post are not a good idea. No offense was ment by my post to anyone as a player but I refuse to be part of the lvl grind in oder to unlock a FS character and will fight to keep the one forum that is a decent read free of here's how you grind through this proff post and keep it focused on the long term goals of making the ranger a beter class.

The issue of "Which is the Right and Proper Way to Play an MMORPG" is a profoundly religious issue. Heretics are persecuted with a vigorous zeal that would make Torquemada green with envy.
No one expects the ranger inquisition
Aside from those who are happy about the FS path, I don't think anyone means disrespect to any profession. For the most part, I loathe the steps the devs have taken to ensure that the roleplaying element of this game gets undermined on the path to Jedi'hood.
That said, my 2nd holo told me to Master Ranger. I've been working on it, but I'm not much of a power player. All I have done is the trapping, which was really easy.
My question, really, is just this: where are the squill caves on Tattooine? ![]()
