Right now a ranger is not a combat profession, we all know this, so why dont we demand to have a greater role in PvP. For me that is the radical change this profession needs. Not only outdoor stealth and suprise attack ability, but some sort of ranger specific weapon. What we do puts us in a combat role, but master ranger by itself is helpless tofight against attacks. Thishas to change, an elite combat profession can't be defenseless. We need ground based PvP traps (which I know have been proposed but denied)as well as hunting traps. We have quite a few months before publish 11,I think we need to make sure we propose a stronger role in combat for our profession.

One more thing I think we need to make a new proposal that includes a greater military role for us. Put your ideas here for that expanded role.

I think we should keep theseideas

1) Modular Camps - with a few PvP specific camps and modules

2) Revamped concealment - with some sort of surprise attack modifier

3) Expand improve traps - we have to get some sort of PvP traps, don't budge on this. Plus better traps for hunting. Also make our PvP traps anti-personal traps.

4) Better tracking - I don't need to say anymore you all know what I mean

I'm sure I missed some stuff. Add any ideas you haveit to this thread.

not to belittle your ideas, shaw.. but if the combat balance is your concern, you might want to check out this thread...

it takes it a little bit to get going, but it has a lot of our concerns already laid out... if anything, you can add your own take on things to it and bump it back to the top of the forum... since some folks have already made their arguments there, it might be tthe best place to start...

And what about those of us who dont give a stuff about PvP? No offense to anyone that wants it, but if you lot keep campaigning for PvP abilities, thats all replacing possible PvE stuff in our revamp(whenever it comes).

In the Squad Leader revamp thread, we were dicussing fortifications with TH. He told all the SLs that each profession can only have a certain number of abilities, and each tree can only have a certain number of abilities, so if the devs went ahead with fortifications, that would have meant sacrificing a full tree of other abilities that they had planned, and thats why it was highly unlikely.

If you all push for PvP stealth, then they will have to devote an entire skilltree to the ability as well as +mods to it, and that means that a quarter of our entire profession is useless to those who dont bother wwith PvP. No thanks.

I am neither for nor against PvPor a PvP Ranger, but I think the devs have basically let it be known that we have no place in PvP. I am not saying we need to lie down, but it will be a pretty big task to convince the Devs otherwise.

First thing we can't lay down. I didn't fall in love with this profession to have the devs not listen to us. Let's not forget who the devs work for here guys. Second gadonthek, nothing I have proposed would alter what is in the skill trees. We are already trapmasters, we already have the best encampment, we already have a type of camo (camo and stealth are the same family). We wouldn't have togive-up our improvements for PvE, they could both fit together. We know the devs will never give us everything we want but that doesn't mean we shouldn't ask. I'll say it again, most every other comabt profession is effective in all three type of combat, creatures, PvE, and PvP. We should demand the same. Thanks Calc for support of us noobs . Thank you Kiryoku for the link, that is why I write here to find new info and share my ideas.

Shaw, I think your Ideas are very good, and I look forward to reading any other Ideas you may have to offer. If you were to do a search for ranger weapons, stealth, camps, you will find many, many, Ideas and suggestion, pro's and cons, of just about anything orway to Improve our profession.

I personally dont do much in the PvP side, as the few times I tried, I was hopelessly out classed and had my bottom handed to me by many others that do PvP on a regular basis. TH, GM, have both said that we are to be PvE oriented. Our roles in the GCW, comes to question in my mind, but thats another thread.

I would like to see the Items we have already in place be made to function the way they were intended. Traps Camps, Camo, ect. I think as a community we need to go back from time to time and adress these issues.

Keep up the good job

SHAW mate, you didnt really understand what I posted. The devs see it as an either or deal, Camo can either work in PvE or PvP, not both, they will NOT give us abilities for both types of combat.

TH made this sentiment quite clear in his discussion with the SLers, and if it comes down to a choice between PvE and PvP, sorry, but Im voting for PvE, the Ranger is about the wilderness, not hiding in the bushes killing people. Thats my view anyway.

GadonThek, I agree we should have a focus on PvE, but we can have both. The point here is that other professions can have both. Rifleman's conceal is supposed to be effective against all, so should ours. Commandos attacks work against all, so should ours. Devs don't always want to admit it but things they say are not as static as they want us to believe. When Jedi were first announced they said it would almost be impossible to achieve jedi status. Now they are devoting two whole publishes to make jedi a more realistic goal for all players. We can have both, the only way to convince me otherwise is if a dev looks me in the eye, takes me too there computer and shows me that it is impossible for us to have both. GadonThek look at it this way, if you want to hunt just creatures right now you can already do that, if I want to fight in PvP I don't have a choice. This is blatant discrimination.

Being a Ranger means you find a role in PvP and fill it.

I am OIC (I made Colonel, neener neener neener) of the Recon Section. In defense - I stay covert, leave the base to hit 525m out, and yes, I have waypointed many spots for just this, and runareatrack. In 15 battles in which I did this, the other side is 0-15 sneaking in.

On offense, I go in first, recon the area, covert of course. Do an /AR from 200 m out, see who is out and about, then report. I usually go back to 1k out and set up a camp so we can callpets, buff late arrivals, store speeders, whatever.

Combat support means you support those too freaking stupid to be able to support themselves.

Oh, and the fact that I do have Master Pistoleer means I have a limited, but decent role in PvP.

the key point of this is that rangers are a support class. same as ch, doc, or any other non-combat class. we are not a combat profession. most if not all rangers have a combat profession in their template. i may be wrong, but i cant see any other way to master ranger without one. im not knocking your ideas. i think some of them are good. i lean on the same lines as gadon feeling that if they make us better in pvp they will take away from us in pve. and if it comes down to a vote im voting pve. i see as as the ultimate hunters of creatures not humans. thats what bh's are for. i love reading new ideas about this prof and telling myself, dude that would be sweet, but i feel they should fix the thhings that we already have that are broken first. not a flame just my 2 cents.

Jbmat you prove my point for me, other than setting up your camp what did being a ranger help you do. Anyone can go covert and look for the enemy. My point again is we have no special skills for PvP at all. Maybe what we need is two ranger professions then one for PvE, and one for PvP. Personally I don't want that. Ofcourse I want them to fix what we already have Lootranger, but we also could easily get some PvP skillsadded as well. Really think about it, they already are going to make our traps ground based, while most will be only effective in hunting,a few could have two purposes. Trip wires, spike pits(i don't know the technical name), grenade traps, mines, etc.Guerilla warfare could be easily fit into our skill tree.
