Thread: Getting lost

Didn't want to hi-jack the lowco ranger association thread:

These days I can walk my standard routes without activating waypoints (turn left at 733t weaponstore, take a right at Atreides Mall, etc) but I manage to get completely lost inside a large Corellia/Generic house. I've actually spend 20 mins looking for the exit once.

Anyone else have any embarrising places they got lost (in the HTFB perhaps )?

I got lost in the squill cave the first time I went there, back in the old days when the squill cave was the hardest dungeon in the game for everyone. I spent 1+ hours walking around trying to find the exit while trying to avoid the squill (I was still a nov marksman:smileyhappy. I eventually met another group there and was able to find the exit.

I make extensive use of maps and waypoints, so I don't really get lost so much (though the big Corellian houses confused the heck out of me at first as well). My bigger problem is that I tend to smash my bike into every single rock, tree and building imaginable ...because I'm too busylooking through the aforementioned maps and waypoints.

If vehicles took collision damage, I'd need a new one every day.

This will be a good thread when all is said and done. I often say 'the waypoint jumped, I swear!' as I follow the wrong waypoint and have to do a 180. My worst place for navigation, however, has to be Tyrena. I always get lost whenI enter the city (btw, I started in Tyrena in July, and have ALWAYS been based out of there) and I even know the way to the starport which allows me to not have to enter the city. It is soooo sad .

I know that feeling. I wonder what exactly the person coming up with the layout for this thing was thinking when designing it.

I think this thread will be good also.

I think I could find everything on Dantooine just by looking around, Rori and Dathomir I am getting better at, and Talus like the back of my hand.

But I get lost in any city starting with"Mos" and most cities on Corellia.

And I definatly have to agree with Washell. Whoever designed thelarge generic house, must have been laying down looking atthe design sideways. It absolutely makes no sense. I hate them with a passion, I can never find the damn door. This also goesfor any Naboo style house.

Come to think of it, I live in a large Tatooine house, and get lost sometimes. Probably why the front room looks like a storage area, and the rest of the house is empty.

I can be dropped anywhere on Corellia and get back to a city w/o a WP. I know RIverlands particularly well, and have seen the rise and fall of several player cities there. My grind was mostly done between Kor Vella and Tyrena: used to walk up and down the map there. I used to have only those two cities for waypoints on my datapad.

Sense then I have gotten to know Rori and Talus almost as well. There are some "interesting" places there that are not listed on the POI list.

I dont seem to get confused nearly as often as I used to. I had a hard time trying to figure out the arrows and the radar thing, for the longest time. I would always start to follow the wrong arrow and end up back where I started. This happened enough times that I eneded up with the nick name "Wrong Way". This is not to good when your a Master Ranger and one of your friends yells out "Ok wrong way tou have the lead". It kinda freaks some people out. Anyways I've gotten much better finding out where i'm going, and know where I'm at these days.

The only time I have gotten lost was in a large house on Naboo, but that only took me 5-10 minutes to get out of (still a long time I know). I never get lost in cities, even looking at the dirt in 1st person view (reduces lag) because I use ctrl + m which brings up a nice map overlay of the area. So I can find any building I need to in a city, and it also works great in buildings and dungeouns (should have used it in that house on Naboo) because the map switches to the layout of whatever you are in and you can see where all the paths lead etc.

Out in the wilderness I have no problems because there isnt much to get you confused, and sometimes I even run around with 4 or 5 waypoints on my screen of nearby cities so I have a reference (if I get to unsure of where I am I stop moving for 30 seconds and look at the map, not to difficult). Now if only in real life I had the direction sense I have in SWG I would be set

Dathomir. Hasn't happened since the waypoint monitor (thanks Devs!). But I used to get lost there all the time. A couple turns to avoid nightsisters and the ancient bull rancors who laugh at maskscent and I would be completely confused. Which arrow was I following again? Not to mention half my party would be dead because I would forget they couldnt run through ancient reptilian flyers like I could. THAT hasn't happened since speeders though.

I got lost in the first house I ever went inside. I think it was a small corellian. I still get lost in Coronet (now which bunch of fountains was this?) Actually, I get lost in most cities. Some of those naboo and rori cities!!! Holy bridges! And those metal fences on Rori always go the wrong way! And of course Tat has all those lovely low walls. I love being balked by a wall that only comes up to my knees. By the time I find my way around through and over I have to bring up the map again and figure out where the heck I went and how the heck to get back! I studied the map layout for Tyrena once as I approached the city. I went around.

I am a little lost on the beginner planets since player cities. I used to know Tat well, but now everythiing there is covered in houses. Same with naboo, though I didnt know that as well. Currently I am getting to know Endor and Yavin very well. No buldings! Thank the force! I remember running dantooine before player cities. Nothing but miles of flowers. I wish I had explored more thouroughly back then.

I seem to have some mental block when it comes to using the overhead map. I don't like it cluttering up my screen, so I never think to use it when I am in a city. Oh well...my guild mates love it when I mention over guild chat that i am lost in Tyrena (asI said,I have been based out of there since launch).
