Ehem, thanks, I think.

Hey I'm starting to see how we can sell this to CH from others ideas here.

1. make sure scouts get the ability to have TN transfer to a mount, as they are asking for anyway. Helps us since we are scouts.

2. give us the ability to shoot specials from mounts

3. tell CH that with those two changes, there will be too whole professions in the need for buying trained mounts. The scouts cause of their new TN transfer, and us for TN and combat from mounts.

4. further point out how speeders pretty much took mounts out of the market, as well for making our TN pretty much useless. numbers 1 and 2 will mean basically 2 new markets for mounts that the CH will be providing for.

Will that help Calc?

We are certainly making progress . I will let this be known now:we will most likely have to debate with the CH over this issue, BUT I WILL NOT TAKE IT TO THIER FORUM!!!! They want to discuss this, they can come here. I learned my lesson after the million monky debacle.

What if Rangers, somewhere between novice and master, got the ability to shoot use specials while mounted? Read someplace they wanted to make a mounted combat profession at launch of mounts, but didn't and aren't. So what if they gave it for rangers?

Although how about some feedback from the melee guys. I'm not sure this will help you, other then you can lunge from 20m.

That sounds like a really good idea to me Squid. Especially if they also make Terrain Negotiation carry over to mount speed, etc as DeltaXi65 has suggested in the scout forum. It would still help melee folks that way too, since mounts would go faster and allow melee folks to avoid kiting a little better. It would also be nice if rangers could throw traps while mounted. (Can we now? I've never thought to try it before) I can see it now, a whole battalion of cupa-mounted rangers cresting a hill and charginga krayt

honestly, i would love this... i really want to be a mounted soldier and hardly ever climb down... the trouble is, i can't find a justification for it... although ican seea ranger being able to do this, i don't see it happening because he is a ranger...

i was actually considering bringing this up in the pikeman forum as something they should ask for in the CB... it always seemed like they should be able to do it... it never occured to me to ask for it here...

seriously, i want this...but it needs justification... what kind of ranger would have this?...

several of us have said that the lone ranger is an ideal "ranger"... he would have this ability... but i think we need more than that...

The biggest issue I can think of is kiting. Tell me why itisn't a problem, OR tell me how you wouldpreventkiting froma mount .

anything that postures down or knocks down will get somebody off a mount... works for the kunga, i don't see why it wouldn't work for a player too...

anybody else been clothes-lined by the kunga on their speeder?... man that hurts...

You can't kite on a mount, they make it slow down so that you can't. You can burst ran faster anyway...

Ranger is not a profession. It's a lifestyle.

I kind of see this as an extension of the Ranger Wayfaring abilities: we travel and explore a lot in the wilderness, where technology is hard to come by, so we rely on mounts to help us cover ground quickly. This would make us more familiar with mounts in general and mounted combat specifically:our increased experience with riding the creatures allows us to perform advanced combat tactics while riding them. Thats just my take on it though.

I also would like to be a mounted soldier (watched The Two Towers scene with the Rohan army one too many times I guess ). One advantage of this is we could be the "cavalry" units of the gcw. We've all wanted a role in pvp, and this could be part of it, letting us be the fast, manuverable fighters. Perhaps other professions could get some kind of special that would have a chance to dismount us to balance it all out. I'm just thinking out loud here, and I apologize for rambling.

now that is a great justification!... a lot of folks have been pushing for faster movement speed, but there were all kinds of problems with that (game mechanics and griefing)... maybe this is the perfect way to implement that... faster speed utilizing something already in the game, with a built in anti-kite mechanism (lunges)...

How about any time the MOB attacks make it a percentage chance that he hits the mount or rider. If he hits the mount make it a percentage chance to "buck the rider" proportional to the damage done. You could also cause the rider to be stunned if he falls off or suffer some other type of delay penalty.

Now if we could just fire from vehicles.... hell the scouttroopers where able to fire from their speeders...something else I would like ot be able to do.

I like the mounts... now only if I could get some sort of armour for my dewback I'd be set.

Wow some good ideas floating around, and I think I saw a few to satisfy Calc and his justification/balance issue.

I actually forgot how you get slowed down when in combat on a mount. Is it down the speed of a running non mounted player? If so, this solves the kiting problem completely. Even if we can't outrun or kite the target, so what, its cool to be mounted and fight. It means you don't have to get off, walk over fight, walk back to the mount(or call it) and hop back on. You stay mounted the whole time. Heck the devs might actually like this for the one reason, it might bring more mounts into the game. They are far and scarse these days. And as far as being taken down off your mount, I know for sure a posture change attack at you rips you off it. Yes I got nailed by the cavemen on Dant, and also once by a voritor lizard. I don't know if the KD attacks would too, but I would not be surprised if they did. And all melee professions have KD, and several ranged professions have both ranged posture change and ranged KD.

Someone said that this would go along with what Delta is asking for in scout, for TN to be used while on creature mounts. I was thinking of this also, and forgot to put that in my post. That's partly how I came up with it.

Rangers, especially if they stick us being the masters of wilds and creature hunting, should be able to have mounted combat. That is "creature" mountned combat. We are the masters of moving about in the wilds, hunting, stawking, tracking animals. Our whole time outdoors is spent around animals and surviving in the wilds. So it just makes sence we would be the ones to figure out how to control a mount, and be effective in combat. It's like rodeo guys. They control the horse with their feet and knees, while their hands are doing roping etc. Those cowboys spend a lot of time around, with and on animals all the time.

This wouldn't really be super cool though with out the TN going along with it. It's more of a fun thing, to run cross country on a creature, be able to fight effectively while on creature, and then just continue on your marry way, with out ever dismounting. But if we get slowed down going cross country in between fights, then it won't be as much fun or as cool. And Yes I can run uphill faster then any mount. Tested it long long ago.

I really like the idea of what someone said about rangers being the SWG calvary, a squad of rangers rolling over the hill on dewbacks and kaadu, blasting away.

Now, here is another thought about this I just had. And I have no idea if this could be coded, or if we even want it for balance issues. But what if you can give your mount/pet the attack command and it attacks too, while you're mounted? Now remember, the mountable creatures in the game are all low level and don't do much damage, and don't have the best defences. Just a thought.

So Calc, what do you think now after these discussion? Any ideas? Is is coming to something you might take to the devs yet?

REfer back to the thread about CH vs RANGER.....if we are all knowing of CREATURES and NATURE we should have some TAMING/MOUNTING benifit! Pull 1 mount out and maybe have +3 to store. Ideas.

Hmm maybe I will read that. I can see giving rangers the option to be able to store more then one creature. But not take out more then one, thats all CH.
