Thread: TN in the Combat Upgrade

I'm curious if anyone who's been doing some CU testing has noticed any TN bonuses?

I noticed that as Master Ranger crawling really doesn't seem much faster ... I also noticed that as a Novice Scout I was moving relatively fast.

I'm going to test around a bit more, gonna find a nice lumpy part of Rori and have a mini marathon to see what happens, but I was hoping someone else had seen the same thing I have.

I have noticed some wonkiness but I assumed it was largely due to the new weapon encumberance. Although I haven't played much without exploration skills (I almost always go up the exploration tree as quickly as possible).

I thought about this and tried with and without weapons. Something definitely seems amiss.

I'll try it out when I get a chance (i.e. when I stop crashing on log in).

OK, two different characters:

Bothan Master Ranger/Master Squad Leader/Bounty Hunter Pistols 3 (with and without a group seemed the same):
no real slowdown on hills
crawl speed on level ground was decent
crawl speed up hills was slow

Wookiee Master Rifleman/Master Commando/Bounty Hunter Pistols 4:
no real slowdown on hills
crawl speed on level ground was much slower than the other character (slower even than crawling on hills above)
crawl speed on hills did not seem to change much (but it's hard to tell when you are moving that slow).
Overall, I got the impression that this character was slower overall. It might just be size difference or my imagination or something similar but I thought I'd mention it.

I'll try and test a non scout later but I don't really have anything decent set up on this front to test with.

I had a 4000 scout (+40 TN) was running right alongside a master ranger (+100), and was moving slightly slower than him..

The running factor being maxed out at +50, I only had -10 for TN in regards to walking/running speed... but it was still noticeable.

Hey folks, thanks for lookin into this.

I haven't totally gotten a chance to examine it, but I'm very interested in seeing what the story is. Because of the way that the hinderances are supposed to work, I think its important to make sure that TN is working in accordance.

I'd almost like to see the TN bonus to crawling removed from Ranger and have some general weapon movement mitigation added if possible. The problem is I've yet to personally get the feel that TN is much better than no TN.

I know Creature Knowledge is totally borked right now, so keeping an eye on our other mods is essential.

I've noticed that running through a certain river will slow you down significantly (haven't tested on other planets). I'd like TN to apply to run speed in water.

Also, I'd like to re-do the TN such that it was two different numbers--crawling TN and running TN. A scout should get a little bonus to both (+25 to each at Master Scout) and a Master Ranger should be the only one with the full +50 to each, meaning only a Master Ranger would run full speed up a hill.

There are other things I want to say due to the <edited for NDA>. Guess you guys have to wait.

This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

the +40 scout will run about as fast as the +100 Master Ranger, he's supposed to.

Any TN over +50 will stop increasing your hill moving speed, and start increasing your crawl speed

Right, but my feel as a novice scout the other day was that things were exactly the same as when i was logged onto live with my Master Ranger. I'm wondering if the bonus is there from the beginning.

Maybe Master Ranger is running as fast as they're supposed to, but I got the feel Novice Scout was running at the same speed.

To me right now it seems that either our novice Scouts are too fast, or our Master Ranger's are as fast ... and thus not getting the bonus. See what I'm saying?

I'm gonna test it more thoroughly tomorrow. Thanks again for the input.

It was totaly normal when I tested it. Exploration I helped a bit so did III, Master Scout and I was moving up hills as fast as I ever have.

nemo0, what you noticed might be due to the size differences and "appearance of speed" (as you theorized)... i know i notice it when i switch between wook (my standard) and rodian... that rodian just looks like he's moving sooo much faster... shorter legs -> smaller steps -> more steps to go the same distance... you'd think if they could do that, my wookiee wouldn't shrink when he sits, and my rodian wouldn't grow...

wyndinn, as far as TN over 50 goes, it seemed to be working as per normal... that's all i really tested the other night, sorry...

one funny thing i wasn't aware of... if you're getting your bonuses from "group terrain negotiation" and you are prone before grouping, you don't get the boost to crawl speed until you stand up and re-prone...

and damn you phenix and your NDA teaser!!!... i got all flustered, "what NDA?... this is the CU test we're talkin-- oooohhhhhh"... now my mind is going nuts wondering what TN can possibly have to do with kashyyyk... arggghhh... i'm practically a wookiee in real life, let me in on it SOE!!... /whine

good god, i need some sleep.. sorry guys...
