This is horrible! I return to find my new title on the forum is "Jedi". What's up with that? If they wanted to confer that I'm rare and learned, they'd make my title RANGER. and then make it camo colored.

Whoops, sorry about taking so long with this, guys. I'll have the links page up in a minute, with all the updated stuff.

Nice tree but I'm not sure what you mean by the Ranged Damage Mitigation + # andMelee Damage Mitigation + #. I couldn't find any extra explanation in the actual proposal (although I might have missed it) but the names conflict a bit with the current game setup. Currently, mitigation comes in 3 levels (1, 2, and 3, amazingly enough). I'm thinking you might have meant toughness instead (where such numbers make a bit more sense) but I just wanted to check I'm not missing anything (and make sure we don't confuse the Devs).

P.S. Calc, any chance you could sort of slip the Devs a note with the links on it while you are so close by? Maybe camo up and post it on their "To Do" board?

I've got a comment, someone needs to e-mail a copy of both this and the other Outdoorsman 2.1 post to the Devs.

This proposal is so totally cool. Would make the Ranger everything it needs to be. I so want to keepmy ranger going, but it needsa serious plus-up to be more valuable in the current SWG world. Please tell me someone is taking this to the correspondent summit/conference that I hear is going on now.

I like this a lot...

a few questions:

1: will TN be the same animal it is now? with it modifying crawl speed?
2: Would the bow be a kinetic weapon, or an all new "piercing" weapon (something that pikemen actually want)
3: Would the melee skills and specials be applicable if i had a stun baton, a pike a hammer... or just the hunting knife?
4: Would the arrows in the bow have slots in them to add poison/ disease/ blast effects?
5: Would I be able to nail a Nightsister between the eyes with a Bow? or would it be just vs. critters.

Thats all i have now, otherwise... damn good list... this is what ive envisioned a ranger being.

Awsome post! What about "Missions +2" in one of the tiers, meaning that we can have more than 2 missions in our data pad at once. It would make since because rangers shouldn't have to come back to a city every five minutes and allowing us to have more mission would let us spend longer times in the wilderness. This would only apply to big game missions. Oh, and how about "Awarness" mods, for those of you who don't know what awarness does it is like defense against startle shot or pre-emptive attacks I think.

Just a few points:

Ranger specials work only with Ranger weapons. This is to ensure that we are not a "Combat Class" per se, but are effective in our own right against animals.

Both Ranger weapons (bow and knife) would create a new type of damage. The name itself is not important. The point of the damage would be that creatures have little to no resistances to it, while all armors are 75% or higher resistant to it. This ensures that Rangers are still a PvE-centric class.

The "Big Game Hunting" Missions are instead of an increase to the number of missions we can take. As I said, to use this quick guide, you need to be familiar with the full proposal. The +1 increase at Field Bioscience 2 and at Master Ranger allows you to get more difficult "Big Game" missions, not more. Basically the "Big Game" missions mimic the BH mission structure, although our hunt animals, and we have to use Ranger-specific skills to locate the animal. Basically, these missions are difficult, rewarding missions that hope to make you actually "hunt". Most of the mission is spent actually finding the creature and then killing it isn't simply a combat macro away. These animals would be HARD and you would need all the trick in your arsenal to kill them. At least that's the way I see them.

I see the big game missions as a better alternative to more standard missions because there is no real justification as to why a Ranger would be able to get more missions. Also, Rangers aren't generally geared towards hunting NPC's, but allowing us more missions would allow us to take 4 missions against targets a Ranger wouldn't normally hunt. I'd rather see us have a well-paying, but DIFFICULT missions structure. When gathering hide, a real Ranger doesnt' rely on just missions, they find natural spawns going both ways.
