What happened to the Hunting Cabin idea?

N'Raas,

This is amazing. Those of you that remember me from when I posted a lot know that this is not what I wanted for the profession -- but even so, its a great vision within the dev limitations. I really, really hope this gets noticed and implemented to some degree.

For my part, I'm out. I've loved Ranger, and I still have high hopes for the game -- but I'm playing something else while I wait.

See you guys when the space expansion comes out

"What happened to the Hunting Cabin idea?"

Good question.

I didn't include it, as I felt it stretched too far into the Architect area of interest.

I decided to go with the Stash idea instead.

First off Nraas great job! I do have some concerns though...if I have read that right, only a master ranger can conceal himself enough that he can disappear off the radar. I don't believe that that should be master level. I think master ranger should get a substantial bonus for it but it should be available to novice ranger as well. I also disagree with the 15 second delay if you are discovered. I would suggest that a penalty to hit and defense would be a better and more realistic solution. If you are hunting in the forest and a deer smells you and starts to run, you aren't going to sit there for 15 seconds before trying to shoot it. If you did, it would be like two miles away. It is far more reasonable to agree that you might get spooked just as you were aiming, and your aim gets thrown slightly off.

Other than that, I think you have done a great job! I really hope we get all this! Keep up the good work.

/hide has rather specific uses. Most of which are related to PvP.

  • A concealed Ranger could rely infoabout an encampment of enemies while his friends mass off radar.

  • Or they could hide in the group itself, masking the true numbers of troops if the enemy is watching.

My suspicion is that any chance of a player popping out of nowhere and immediately attacking will be vetoed by the developers.

Of course you were refering to PvE combat in your post, but the design laid out is trying to be consistent across all forms of opponents.

By the way... What purpose was beingservedby simply hiding in the middle of a forest, waiting for random spawns to appear?

"15 seconds IS a long time in game"

Suggestions? 10?

I want to cover latencyfrom the server and back to all the clients, and a little prep time for the opponent to ready himself if a Ranger suddenly appears on the horizon from out of nowhere.

I always thought that this would be crafted by Architects, but only placed by Master Rangers. It would be on a simillar level as the city structures that can only be placed by master professions.

"You didn't address my suggestion of a penalty to hit and defense if your conceal is broken."

I did... By saying that any chance of a player attacking immediately out of combat would probably be vetoed by the developers.

We can consider it if the developers say they have no problem with such an option... Until then I am leaving it out.

[Edit: Changedprobably to problem ]

Whoa there Nraas. As our correspondent, you are expected to give our profession's point of view irregardless of whether or not you agree with it. You asked for comments and suggestions, and I gave you some. Why ask for them if you are just going to "leave them out" because you think the devs will say no? I don't think my opinion is any worse than anyone else's, and it bothers me that you dismiss it out of hand. I may be the lone voice against the 15 second timer, but my voice should still count.

Don't get me wrong, I think you are doing a great job as our correspondent, but I expect that you pass on the suggestions you asked for and represent all rangers, even the ones that have a different idea than yours and may be in the minority. Every ranger should get respect.

"because you think the devs will say no?"

No, because I asked the developers for a definitive answer on the subject.

If I receive an answer stating that they will accept invisibility as a possibility, then we can start this over again with that knowledge.

Until then, Iuse my ownjudgement on what will be accepted by the developers, under the presumption that invisibility will not be allowed.

Nobody is talking about invisibility. It would be a skill modifier based on your conceal abilty vs. their awareness ability. Just like every other skill check, if you are successful, you are concealed from them, if you fail, you show up on the radar. At no point are you ever literally invisible. I am just talking about radar. I am not suggesting that rangers put on a magic ring that turns them invisible. Alas, we don't have the ring of power and that is a whole different story. I would appreciate it, if you would include my suggestion along with the others now that you know I'm not talking about complete invisibility. At least poll the other rangers to see what they think.

I believe that is what he is waiting for an answer on. Invisibility in general, on the radar, and on the game screen. I myself would love to be invisible on the radar, I thought it would be cool if we could conceal everyone in a camp by removing their radar signature while they are in the camp, but if the devs don't want to or can't do such a thing then oh well.
I'm sure that NRaas will wait until he gets that answer on invisiblity before he goes further with these proposals so that if the answer changes anything, the proposal can reflect that. But based on how the devs have responded to this issue in the past, the answer looks bleak, thus to save possible revision time, I can understand why he is leaving any invisibility ideas out for now.
